Never ignore the instructions of the officials. Do not select your own escape route. This must only be done in the event that, for whatever reason, the Emergency Management team is unable to perform their functions. (Hostage Situations, Major Bomb Explosions etc.) If not in your working area: Do not go back to collect items. If possible, switch of electrical equipment in your office. Do not comply with this, if the building is on fire. If time allows, lock away valuables and important documents. If not too heavy or bulky, then take with you. Make sure that your co-workers are complying with the evacuation order.

6 GENERAL EVACUATION PROCEDURES Stay calm, walk briskly and Do not Run Walk in Single File and Keep to the Left Hand Side. Assist injured persons or persons who stumble. REMEMBER: In a Chemical/Biological Incident assistance, is not advised unless you have Protective Clothing. Do not shout or make unnecessary noises. If you re trying to escape a fire, never open a closed door without feeling it first. Use the back of your to prevent burning your palm. If the door is hot, try another exit. If none exists, seal the cracks around the doors and vents with anything available. Move to the window and attempt to attract attention. Place an article of clothing (shirt, coat, etc.) outside the window as a marker for emergency personnel. If necessary, use a chair or other heavy item to break the window. Do not throw furniture or heavy equipment out of the window. If there is no window, stay near the floor where the air will be more breathable. Shout at regular intervals to alert emergency personnel to your location. FLASH OVER NEVER OPEN A DOOR WHEN A FIRE IS RAGING IN THE SPECIFIC AREA! Fire survives on OXYGEN and the sudden influx of oxygen can result in a FLASH OVER. (A fire ball type explosion, which could engulf you and the area that you are in) IF SOMEONE CATCHES ON FIRE If you should catch on fire: STOP-where you are-drop-to the floor-roll-around on the floor.

10 This will smother the flames, possibly saving your life. Just remember to stop, drop and roll.
