9 Sentry COS 9 Installation Do not install or use this equipment in any manner other than that which is specified in this manual or the protection offered by this equipment could be impaired. Installation should be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with applicable state/ provincial and local codes and procedures. 1. Mount the controller in a location that is easily accessible and vibration-free. 2. Have a qualified electrician wire the controller to the electrical supply. Surge suppression and filtering is recommended but not required. 3. Mount the enclosure with proper structural support to accommodate the 150 lb controller. 4. The controller should be hard wired to instrument-quality power using appropriate ATEX type d certified conduit, fittings, and wiring or cable. 5. Add ferrite to the AC mains input (double loop). 6. A shielded cable (Belden 29550C or equivalent) must be used for the connection to the motor, and it must be tied to ground on the VFD and motor. 7. A suitable external over-current protection device, such as a fuse or circuit breaker (15 A), and disconnect device is required. Reference the electrical wiring diagram supplied with your equipment for actual circuit power requirements. 8. The overcurrent protection and disconnect should be near the equipment and easily reached. 9. The overcurrent protection should be marked as the disconnect for the controller. 10. The overcurrent protection and disconnect must meet IEC and IEC The over-current protection and disconnect devices should be installed on both the hot (L) and neutral (N) leads. 12. The disconnect device shall be located near the equipment and marked with appropriate On(1)/Off(O) markings as specified by local codes. 13. 21 Sentry COS 21 Operation, continued List of Alarms Type Alarm Description Critical Can 1 Over Limit Can 1 is over its switching weight Critical Can 2 Over Limit Can 2 is over its switching weight Critical Can 1 Removed Unexpectedly Can 1 was removed while unit was operating Critical Can 2 Removed Unexpectedly Can 2 was removed while unit was operating Non-critical Can 1 PF Failed Performance factor calculation has failed for current batch on can 1 Non-critical Can 2 PF Failed Performance factor calculation has failed for current batch on can 2 Non-critical Differential Pressure Sensor Differential pressure sensor has given an alarm Non-critical Low Flow Low flow sensor has given an alarm Non-critical Switching Valve FB [feedback] Position indication from valve does not match desired valve position Non-critical General Customer defined Active Alarms Active alarms include alarms that have been acknowledged, but not cleared. To view active alarms, select Alarms from the Menu screen. Alarm History All alarm conditions that occur are recorded and maintained in an alarm history list. To view this list, select Alarm History from the Menu screen. Performance Factors Viewing Performance Factor Values The PF (performance factor) value is displayed on the Main Screen after the batch count reaches 100 samples. Before the batch count reaches 100, or to view previous PF values, select PF Results from the Menu screen. The Performance factor values screen displays recent performance factors with a timestamp and can number. Use the up/down arrows to scroll through the previous 99 values.

22 22 Sentry COS Operation, continued Performance Factor Calculations There are two performance factors calculated by the COS controller: Can and Batch. Can performance factor is based on the expected sample volume for the current can versus the actual sample volume of the can. The can PF value calculation is based on total can weight since the last tare. CanPF = AccumulatedCanSampleVolume CalculatedCanSampleVolume The accumulated can sample volume is the actual volume collected for the can so far, where AccumulatedCanSampleVolume = AccumulatedCanSampleWeight MeanCanDensityinput The calculated can sample volume is the theoretical sample volume collected so far, where CalculatedCanSampleVolume = BatchVolumeThisCan x RequiredSampleVolume RequiredBatchVolume - BatchVolumeUptoPreviousCan Batch performance factor is based on the expected sample volume for the total batch processes so far versus the actual sample volume for the batch. This performance factor corresponds to the ANSI/ASTM D4177 standard. To get a batch PF calculation, you must tare the can between batches. BatchPF = AccumulatedBatchSampleVolume CalculatedBatchSampleVolume The accumulated batch sample volume is the actual volume collected so far, where AccumulatedBatchSampleVolume = AccumulatedBatchSampleWeight MeanDensityinput The calculated batch sample volume is the theoretical sample volume collected so far, where CalculatedBatchSampleVolume = MeasuredBatchVolume x RequiredSampleVolume RequiredBatchVolume

23 Sentry COS 23 Maintenance The COS controller does not require any scheduled maintenance. When necessary, wipe any dust off the outside window with a damp cloth. Electrical shock hazard. Disconnect all power, including voltages connected to relays, before servicing or replacing fuses. Should it be necessary to service the controller for any reason: Turn power off before opening the enclosure. Secure all bolts on the enclosure before applying power to the controller. Troubleshooting symptom possible problem(s) remedy Sampler will not start or stops unexpectedly - The unit is in alarm - Cans are not in place - Check controller settings: Is the proximity sensor engaged or - Correct items listed disengaged? Is the can volume correct? Is the switching volume correct? - Perform a span calibration. You need a 10 kg calibrated weight to complete the calibration procedure: 1. From the Menu screen, select Cans. Weight scales are incorrect - Span calibration needed 2. From the Cans screen, select Tare. 3. Tare both scales (see the Tare Scales section) 4. From the Tare Scale screen, press the up arrow for five (5) seconds. 5. A screen appears asking for confirmation that you wish to perform a span calibration. Press Yes. 6. The Cal Scale screen appears. Use the up/down arrows to select a scale to calibrate. 7. Place a calibrated 10 kg weight on the selected scale and press enter. 8. A screen appears, asking for confirmation that you want to save a span calibration value. Press Yes. 9. Repeat steps 6-8 for the next scale, as needed. 10. When span calibration is complete for both scales, press Back/Escape several times until you return to the Main Screen.
