The maximum number of people liable to be in this area is 48. (Unaccompanied children are not served in the restaurant). Employees, adults and accompanied/ unaccompanied children of all ages in the ground floor take away area. The maximum number of people liable to be in this area is 20 people. Employees only in attic floor storage area. The maximum number of people liable to be in this area is 3. Disabled people who require their evacuation to be facilitated will need to be advised of the options available to them staff. In some instances, they will need to be given assistance to evacuate. In all such scenarios it is important that where possible the dignity of the person should be maintained, this is likely to enhance a swift egress. Staff should ask rather than assume what sort of assistance is required. Due to the lack of awareness and possible immaturity of young persons any employee under the age of 18 are not permitted to work alone.

Ducting cleaned twice yearly as part of maintenance contract ICM. First Floor: Stored Packaging, cloth, uniforms, furniture. Restaurant furnishings. Source of oxygen Attic Floor: Stored Packaging Packaging in attic floor is kept to the minimum required for trading. Doors windows mechanical extraction giving air flow. Source of oxygen:- Range extraction vents are fitted with safety system and shut down when fire detected. Cooker is electric..
4 Step 3 Evaluate risk and adequacy of existing fire safety measures a.1) Likelihood of a fire Comments starting Accidentally While the range is fitted with thermal cut outs a risk remains of overheating during the filtration process or of hot detritus causing fire in bulk bins. Pans should only be filtered and cleaned by competent trained Fryer who has completed the Ashvale H&S course and signed off on frying risk assessments. A fire recently started at another branch due to a leaking pan. ICM now check pans in all branches for leeks when undertaking PPM check and twice yearly duct clean. By act or omission Manager should check that all staff aware of above and frying risk assessments are being followed. Hot detritus not stored in building overnight
5 Deliberately The windows in the staff area have been fitted with locks to prevent access by vandals and deliberate fire razing. In the past bulk bins have been deliberately set on fire outside an Ashvale branch. To reduce the likelihood of this reoccurring bulk bins should be locked when not in use. To reduce the likelihood of fire spreading from bulk bins the bins should not be stored in contact with premises wall. Evaluate risk and adequacy of existing fire safety measures a.2) Consequences to Comments people of a fire starting. Fire fighting equipment in place to clear escape route. Fire starting on a lower floor affecting the escape routes for people on Attic floor storage area, there is only a single escape route from this area and staff should be aware of the need to exit this area as soon as fire alarm sounds. See attached plan for escape routes.
6 b) Adequacy of existing fire safety measures Provision and protection of escape route Comments Ground floor: Two fire exits in use and unlocked during opening hours. All to be marked by emergency lighting point running man symbol and directional arrow. First floor: One fire exit leading from staff area to exterior stairway marked by emergency lighting point running man symbol and directional arrow. Three fire exits (one is a stairway to ground floor take away area. Staff to be aware to use alternate exit if fire is in the take away area.) marked by emergency lighting point running man symbol and directional arrow. Lighting and signage Fire detection and fire warning Fire fighting equipment Staff training Management and fire safety policy Attic floor: Area is in use as store only one stairway to first floor fire exit. Well lit with emergency lighting points on each floor and by each exit. All exits to be marked by running man symbol and directional arrow. Emergency lighting fire escape stairway. Chubb service contract is now in place for fire detection systems. Service zone plan provided by Chubb. See attached Plan. Manager to give training at induction inline with induction manual. Manager to conduct bi-annual fire drill to maintain staff awareness. All staff to receive H&S training It is suggested that staff are shown a video in use of fire extinguishers to complement the H&S training provided by the Manager. See attached policy document.
7 Emergency fire action plan. If you discover a fire you should: REMEMBER - WELL ORGANISED FIRE EVACUATIONS COULD SAVE LIVES DO NOT PANIC NEVER DELAY DEPARTURE OR RETURN TO RECOVER PERSONAL POSSESSIONS YOU MUST NOT ENDANGER YOUR OWN SAFETY OR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIGHT A FIRE. If you discover a fire you should: Immediately operate the nearest fire alarm call point. Inform your Line Manager or supervisor You should not put yourself at personal risk by fighting a fire if there is any danger of your safety being compromised by doing so. Your safety is of paramount importance. If you decide that fighting the fire is possible without endangering yourself or others then you may do so with the appliances provided, following the instructions clearly marked. On hearing the fire alarm whether oral or mechanical a member of management should call the Fire Brigade immediately and members of staff should guide customers to the relevant fire exit or escape route. Fire exits and escape routes are clearly marked. Fire precautions and procedures are clearly displayed in each establishment and must be followed. Fire drills Maintenance of fire safety measures As part of your induction when first joining The Ashvale Group you should be given a guided tour of the building with all fire exits and escape routes highlighted to you. Roll Call members of staff should assemble at the designated assembly point and remain there until they have been correctly accounted for by the manager/supervisor on duty. Young persons: Staff under the age of 18 aren t permitted to work alone. Staff under 18 must leave the building immediately in the event of a fire and go to the fire assembly point. Staff under 18 must not put themselves at risk by fighting a fire and are not to help in evacuating the premises. Valerie to sound alarm during fire drills. All extinguishers on PPM schedule alarm and emergency lighting now maintained by chubb. Lighting also checked by in house electrician As per fire safety log book. Recording information and keeping records

9 The assessor completing the following section should prioritise remedial measures, based on the level of risk. Priority ratings and suggested timescales: Low (L) 3 6 months Medium (M) Up to 3 months High (H) As soon as possible The above timescales are recommendations, however, risks should be removed as soon as possible.
