1 Ragwort control guide. Get more grass from what you ve got.
2 Use as directed and Forefront T will give the best possible levels of long-term control of ragwort in grassland. Control ragwort because: Under The Noxious Weed Act of 1959, an occupier may be served with a notice requiring the destruction of the noxious weeds. Failure to comply can result in prosecution or a penalty can be imposed on your single farm payment under the cross-compliance conditions Ragwort poses a serious threat to livestock health Left unchecked it can quickly spread and reduce available grazing. Ragwort biology and identification: Common ragwort (Senecio jacobaea) tends to be found on poor quality pastures which are fairly open in nature as a consequence of poaching, poor quality soils and over or under grazing Ragwort is normally a biennial plant. A rosette in its first year that in its second year sends up one or more leafy unbranched stems that usually extend to 30-90cm high Flowering usually from June until late October, the seeds are borne singly and have a downy appendage making them readily dispersible Can also behave as a perennial, flowering every year, after damage to the crown from cutting, poaching or damage by machinery or incomplete/ineffective hand pulling in dry weather. Get more grass from what you ve got.
3 Use Forefront T because: Levels of ragwort control can exceed 90% Forefront T moves to the roots ensuring high levels of long-term control A wide range of additional weeds are also controlled It is very safe to grass. Maximise success do it with PRIDE. Product The combination of aminopyralid and triclopyr gives the best available control of ragwort and many other key grassland weeds. Rate Use at 2.0 L/ha in a water volume of 200 L/ha. If weed numbers are high, or if the grass sward is dense, increase to 300 L/ha. Reducing water volume to speed up spraying operations can lead to poorer long-term control. Information Only use in grassland for grazing by cattle or sheep. Take stock out during spraying then return no sooner than 7 days later or until foliage of any poisonous weeds such as ragwort has died and become unpalatable. Do not apply to grassland that will be used for silage, hay or haylage. Density Forefront T is not approved for use by hand-held equipment, e.g. knapsack or lance. If ragwort numbers are high enough to justify overall spraying, the timing of Forefront T treatment is critical for best results. For best control of ragwort, treat when plants are actively growing, in the rosette stage, up to 200mm across or high. If ragwort plants have grown beyond these sizes, they should be cut and the regrowth treated 2-3 weeks later when they have grown to the correct size. Environment Ragwort must be actively growing, not suffering from waterlogging or drought stress, and healthy for best results with Forefront T. Seek advice before use. See product label for full details.
4 Forefront T performance on ragwort Forefront T is the best, most effective herbicide available for controlling ragwort. Dow AgroSciences trials ragwort control one year after treatment 100 % Control of Ragwort Citronella Oil 2,4-D + MCPA Forefront T Pulling or cutting ragwort: Hand pulling is only appropriate for smaller areas. Larger areas need machine pulling but this requires height difference between ragwort and other plants and is only suitable on certain soil types and flat areas Cutting should only be used to reduce seed production and dispersal where other more effective control methods cannot be used as it can stimulate growth and plants then re-flower. Repeat treatments will be required to prevent seeding Cut or pulled plants left lying in the field are a serious risk to grazing animals as they remain toxic, are more likely to be eaten and may still set seed. Plants must be removed and disposed of safely before returning grazing animals.
