This species needs very well-drained soils and will grow in dappled shade, partial or full-sun. Flowers are creamy-yellow and profuse. Will withstand frost and extended dry periods. 1-2m x 2-3m. SG. Acacia boormanii Snowy River Wattle An adaptable and spectacular shrub, tolerating most well-drained soils and a wide range of climatic conditions. Will withstand extended wet periods. Best grown in partial or full-sun. An ornamental that can also be used as a windbreak and screening plant. This plant is strongly suckering. 3m x 5m. SG. Acacia boormanii Mt Typo Form An adaptable and spectacular shrub, tolerating most well-drained soils and a wide range of climatic conditions. Will withstand extended wet periods. Best grown in partial or full-sun. An ornamental that can also be used as a windbreak and screening plant. Does not sucker. 3m x 5m. SG. Acacia buxifolia Box-leafed Wattle Medium shrub with erect stems with profuse, golden-yellow flowers. An ornamental plant which will grow in most well-drained soils. Suited to partial or full-sun. Frost tolerant. 2-4m x 2-3m. SG Acacia cognata River Wattle A graceful shrub with a pendulous habit. Prefers moist, light-to-heavy soils and dappled to partial-sun, but will tolerate full-sun. Will respond well to extra watering in dry periods. Frost tolerant. 4-10m x 4-6m. SG. Acacia dealbata Silver Wattle An erect, small-to-tall tree with bright yellow flowers. SG. Acacia doratoxylon Currawang Requires well-drained soil and will grow on stony ridges. It is suited to dappled shade, partial or full-sun, and is both drought resistant and frost tolerant. Acacia genistifolia Spreading Wattle An ornamental species that tolerates a very wide range of soils. Withstands both extended wet and dry periods. Frost hardy. Will grow in dappled shade, partial or full-sun. Very useful as a refuge for small birds due to its prickly nature. This plant has bold, pale yellow flowers. 1-3m x 1-3m. SG. Acacia howittii Sticky Wattle A graceful, erect to spreading tall shrub or small tree. Does well in moist, well-drained, light-to-heavy soils and can withstand short periods of dryness. Frost tolerant. Will grow in dappled-shade, partial or full-sun. Useful as a windbreak. 4-8m x 3-6m. SG. Acacia implexa Lightwood An upright-to-spreading tall shrub-or-small tree with pale yellow pods. A very hardy and long-lived species which requires well-drained soils and prefers partial or full-sun. Frost tolerant. Useful for shade and as a windbreak. Good furniture timber. 5-15m x 4-10m. SG. Acacia iteaphylla Flinders Range Wattle A dense, spreading, medium-to-tall shrub with pale, yellow flowers. Very adaptable and grows best in well-drained, light-to-heavy soil. Prefers partial or full-sun and is drought resistant. There are many forms with different foliage. Some are pendulous, others more upright. 3-5m x 3-6m. SG. Acacia melanoxylon Blackwood Densely foliaged large shrub-to-tall tree with cream to pale yellow flower heads. Grows best in moist well-drained soils with cool climate conditions. Will withstand dappled-shade through to full-sun. Frost tolerant. Excellent furniture timber. Long living. 5-30m x 4-15m. SG. Acacia montana Dense, spreading, medium shrub with bright yellow flower heads. Grows well in well-drained, light-to-heavy soil in partial or full-sun. 4 Acacia paradoxa Kangaroo Thorn An extremely hardy wattle. Drought and frost tolerant. Grows in a wide range of soils and will tolerate temporary inundation. Its prickly habit makes it an excellent refuge for native birds. The flowers are golden yellow making the plant very showy. 2-4m x 2-5m. SG. Acacia pendula Weeping Myall An ornamental, bushy tree that is suitable for shade and shelter planting on farms. Stock will eat the foliage. Timber is attractive and pleasantly fragrant. Frost resistant. 6-12m x 6-8m. SG. Acacia pravissima Ovens Wattle Very hardy small tree-to-large shrub. Widely cultivated and adaptable to a wide range of conditions. Frost and drought hardy. Suitable for screening and windbreaks. It has bright yellow, scented flowers and bluish triangular foliage. Flowers in September/October. 4-8m x 4-8m. SG. Acacia pycnantha Golden Wattle Widely cultivated species that is Australia's national emblem. Very hardy, will grow in most soils with good drainage in full-sun to semishade. Useful for windbreaks and soil erosion. Golden yellow globular flowers in July - October. Reasonably frost and drought tolerant. 3-10m x 2-6m. SG. Acacia rubida Red-stem Wattle This shrub is very hardy and adaptable and will grow in most soils, in dappled shade, partial or full-sun. Frost and drought hardy. Can withstand waterlogging. Useful for windbreaks or parks. The red branches compliment the profuse, bright yellow flowers. 3-12m x 3-6m. SG. Acacia spectabilis Mudgee Wattle This is a very attractive wattle, with golden yellow flowers and attractive weeping branches. A good garden plant. Will grow in sandyto-heavy soils. Drought and frost resistant, but can be affected by poor drainage. 3-5m x 3-6m. SG. Acacia verniciflua Varnish Wattle A medium shrub that grows in well-drained light-to-heavy soils. Can withstand extended wet and dry periods. Will grow in dappledshade or full sun. Can be used as a low windbreak. Frost tolerant. Showy, yellow flowers and pendulous branches. 3-5m x 3-5m. SG. Acacia vestita Hairy Wattle A widely cultivated shrub, suited to most areas. Drought and frost tolerant. Useful as a low windbreak, shelter or screen plant. Golden, yellow flowers in September to October. Frost hardy. 3-6m x 3-8m. SG. Allocasuarina littoralis Slender or spreading small tree that may take on a dark brown or reddish appearance. Mature trees have deeply furrowed dark bark. Excellent timber tree. This fast-growing tree needs good drainage. Tolerates light to medium frosts and extended dry periods. 4-8m x 4-6m. SG. Allocasuarina luehmannii Bull Oak Tree that grows in a range of conditions. Useful as a windbreak and for specialty timber production. It has deeply furrowed, dark bark and fine, needle-like foliage. Will grow around the edge of swamps and tolerates temporary inundation. Frost resistant. 8-25m x 8-15m. SG. Allocasuarina verticillata Drooping She-oak Wide-spread tree that will tolerate many conditions and is most suitable for salt-affected sites. Popularly grown as a shade, shelter or ornamental tree. It is useful for specialty timber and as fodder for cattle. Frost and drought hardy. 4-11m x 3-6m. SG. Alyogyne huegelii West Coast Gem. Native Hibiscus. A small shrub that produces abundant lilac flowers. Prefers a well-drained, sunny spot and can be pruned to improve shape. Will tolerate only mild frosts. 2.5m x 2.5m. CG. Anigozanthus flavidus Kangaroo Paw A vigorous, clumping perennial which is adaptable to most soil types. It as green, yellow or red flowers. Grows best in full-sun. Attracts bird life and makes excellent cut flowers. Suitable as a garden specimen. Can be susceptible to moderate-to-heavy frost m x 1-2m. SG. Anigozanthus flavidus Red Flower. Kangaroo Paw SG. Arthropodium strictum Chocolate Lily A long-lived perennial herb with blue-to-violet flowers (rarely white) in September through to December. Likes well-drained to heavy soils. Distributed throughout Australia in grassland and woodland. This species has a delightful perfume of chocolate when flowering on a warm summer s day. Frost hardy. 20cm x 20-80cm. SG. 5 A dense small-to-medium shrub with yellow-brown flowers. Common plant of the outback, it is an important forage plant of dry regions. Grows best in heavy soils, in full-sun. Is a useful garden plant and for roadside planting. Frost and drought resistant. 1-3m x 2-4m. SG. Austrodanthonia duttoniana Coarse grass, palatable and nutritious. Likes moist, poorly drained soils i.e.: depressions, drains. Seed heads appear early spring through to summer. Good ground cover and soil binder. Frost and drought hardy. 80 cm in height. SG. Banksia blechnifolia Dwarf, spreading shrub that has horizontal branches. The flower heads are dusky-red to salmon colour with yellow tints. It is an adaptable and vigorous ornamental that grows in a range of well-drained soils. Drought hardy, likes full-sun, and tolerates medium frost m x 2-4m. SG. Banksia canei Mountain Banksia A medium, spreading shrub with pale yellow flowers in summer and autumn. Prefers heavy and clay soils and is frost resistant. Prefers full-partial-sun m x 2-3m. SG Banksia coccinea Scarlet Banksia An outstanding ornamental Banksia. Requires well-drained, light to medium soils in partial or full-sun. Is hardy to moderate frosts and is drought tolerant. Flowers are scarlet in colour and are popular cut flowers. 3-5m x 2-4m. SG Banksia ericifolia Heath Banksia A very hardy and adaptable shrub. Popular for its graceful form and colourful orange-red flower spikes. A useful screen plant which birds find attractive. Will adapt to a variety of soils and aspects, prefers well-drained positions. Frost resistant. 2-7m x 3-6m. SG. Banksia integrifolia Coastal Banksia A sturdy tree with blunt-tipped leaves, silvery below. The flower heads are pale yellow. It grows well on heavy soils and is not affected by frost or wind. It prefers a sunny position and responds to watering during dry periods m x 5-10m. SG. Banksia marginata Silver Banksia Variable from a low stunted shrub to a compact small tree. Grows well in a variety of soils. Frost resistant and can tolerate dry conditions. Pale yellow flowers appear in autumn. Ideal as a screen or wind break. 2-10m x 2-6m. SG. Banksia praemorsa Cut-leaf Banksia An outstanding ornamental, dense foliaged, upright, medium-to-tall shrub. Cylindrical flowers with a combination of deep red, purple, green and yellow. Likes well-drained soils and is adaptable to a range of climatic conditions. Frost tolerant, however flower heads may be damaged. 2-5m x 3-5m. SG. Banksia spinulosa Hairpin Banksia Very showy medium shrub, with a spreading form and bright yellow cone shaped flowers. Banksia spinulosa dwarf Dwarf Hairpin Banksia Very showy dwarf shrub with a spreading form and yellow to orange cone shaped flowers. Excellent for growing under eucalypts. Does not like high ph or limestone. Attractive to honeyeaters. Hardy in well-drained acidic soils. Frost and drought hardy. CG. Billardiera scandens Common Apple Berry This climber is suited to a wide range of environments. It easily grows in full-sun or in dense shade and in sandy-to-clay soils. It prefers good drainage and enjoys some water in dry periods. Often seen climbing on trees as a vine, but becomes shrubby if planted in the open. Greenish-yellow bell-shaped flowers. Frost hardy. 1-5m x 2-3m. CG. Boronia megastigma Brown Boronia An upright, dense shrub with very fragrant bell-shaped flowers. Prefers moist, well-drained soils but will tolerate a wider range of conditions. Prefers partial shade and mulching around roots. Frost tolerant. 1-3m x 1-2m. CG. Brachychiton acerifolius Flame Tree A small-to-medium tree with bright red, bell-shaped flowers during summer prefers full to partial-sun. A very adaptable tree which tolerates a variety of climates and soils. A well known tree, which is widely cultivated throughout Australia. Frost tender when young m x 10-15m. SG. Brachychiton populneus Kurrajong A very hardy, indigenous tree which is often found in very rocky sites but also extending along river banks and plains in a variety of soils. It is an excellent shade and shelter tree. Leaves can be used for stock fodder. Cream or pink flowers. Roots and seeds are suitable for bush tucker. Frost and drought hardy. 6-20m x 6-10m. SG. This plant is can become a very attractive ground cover in a short time. Frost resistant m x 0.2-1m. CG. Bulbine bulbosa Bulbine Lily A dwarf, perennial herb with bright green leaves to 40cm long. Bright, yellow flowers in spring. Likes moist well-drained soils with dappled shade to full-sun. Excellent plant for rockeries and container growing. Frost tolerant m x 0.3m. SG. Bursaria lasiophylla Hairy Bursaria A small-to-medium shrub, found in rocky areas at higher altitudes. Likes well-drained soils and tolerates frost and snow. In spring it is covered in fragrant, white flowers. Bursaria s host insects which parasitise pasture grubs and other harmful insects. These plants attract birds and butterflies.1-2.5m x 1-2.5m. SG. Bursaria spinosa Sweet Bursaria Very hardy shrub with fragrant white flowers in spring. Will grow in most positions but dislikes waterlogging. Callistemon pachyphyllus Wallum Bottlebrush A low-to-medium shrub flowering sporadically but with main flushes of red or green bottlebrushes in spring and autumn. Frost tolerant and adaptable to wet and dry conditions. Full-sun produces best flowers and pruning after flowering will help maintain good shape. Bird attracting. 2.5m x 1.5m. SG. Callistemon pallidus Lemon Bottlebrush A dense medium-to-tall shrub with grey-green to green leaves. Grows in most soils in dappled shade to full-sun. Frost tolerant and withstands wind and waterlogging. Large cream to greenish yellow flowers. Good for windbreaks on farms. Attracts birds. 2-5m x 2-5m. SG. Callistemon pityoides Alpine Bottlebrush (Formerly known as sieberi). Small shrub with yellow flower spikes. Adaptable to a wide range of soils and climates. This shrub provides good haven for small birds and likes a light prune to keep it bushy. Frost tolerant. 2-4m x 1-2m. SG. Cassinia arcuata Drooping Cassinia A graceful shrub with aromatic foliage. It will grow in most well-drained soils in full-sun to partial shade. Suitable for screening. It has fawn coloured flowers which are highly aromatic. Frost and drought tolerant. A good colonising plant for disturbed ground. 1-3m x 1-2m. SG. Cassinia longifolia Shiny Cassinia A large shrub to small tree. Casuarina cunninghamiana River She-oak This tall, erect tree grows beside watercourses and is an excellent shade and shelter tree. It is tolerant of wetter soils. This fast-growing tree has dark red wood, which makes excellent timber. Frost hardy m x 10-12m. SG. Casuarina glauca Swamp She-oak A conical or rounded tree with slightly pendulous branches. Chamelaucium uncinatum Geraldton Wax Purple Pride This plant is highly prized as a cut flower and typical of most of the species. It prefers well-drained soils. Chrysocephalum apiculatum Merv s Tall Form A low ground cover, with clusters of yellow, everlasting flowers. Prefers plenty of sunshine and the soils need to drain fairly freely. It is adaptable and tolerates a wide range of freely draining soil types. Full-sun or semi-shade is preferred, but tolerates dappled shade. Frost tolerant.
