1 Mobilane Green Screen This patented system by Mobilane consists of individual Screens, covered with various species of climbing or hedging plants. Within one growing season it creates a dense, fully covered green screen. The plants are supported by an extremely strong metal frame and are grown in potting soil in a biodegradable cocopot. After planting the hedge the cocopot will biodegrade into the ground and the plants will root in the surrounding soil. The Green Screen requires minimal maintenance. The Benefits: Instant security provided by a 5mm weld mesh galvanized high carbon steel security fence bio diversity footprint pollution 4m available height (Ivy and Jasmine only) steel frame Mobilane1-2011

7 Installation Manual Mobilane Green Screen How many posts and Green Screens do you need? The posts to stabilize the screen are supplied in wood or steel and in several sizes to Leave about 3 cm between the posts and the Green Screen to allow the plant stems to swell between screen frame and posts. dimensions of the posts. Note: for the total length of any installation there is always at least one more post needed than the number of Green Screens used. When using wooden posts all the brackets are the same regardless of if it is a middle, corner or end post. For steel posts there are special end-brackets for use at the beginning and end of the installation, and for use in corners. For posts in the middle of the installation there are special middle brackets. For a calculation spread sheet please visit our website at Mobilane1-2011

8 The right soil? The Mobilane Green Screen needs a humus rich soil suitable for planting shrubs. and have good drainage. The soil must be free of debris, and allow the plant roots to where the soil is not rich in humus a good quality compost should be added. A good foundation is essential for all plants and the ground must be carefully prepared. Are there obstacles in the ground? Make sure that the area where the screens are could be damaged by the installation process. Check with your local utilities and telecommunications companies in your area. Remove old foundations and other obstructions. Mobilane1-2011

9 Installation: Mobilane Green Screen end of the run. level. Screens. cocopot is just below ground level. There should not be any coconut fibres visible. screen. the bottom bracket is secured over the frame using the lower recess on the bracket to secure the frame wire. The hedge is then properly secured in both directions. Make sure no shoots or stems from the screens plants are caught or restricted by frame or brackets. Press the soil firmly around the base so that the cocopot is completely in contact with the soil. Mobilane1-2011

10 Things to consider Normally plants grow as much in the ground as they do above the ground. A small root ball may damage the plant, especially in periods of heat and frost. of the ground should be properly checked to make sure the Green Screen will get enough water. The Green Screen should not be planted too deep where it can drown. If the area is boggy and insufficiently drained problems may occur. The Green Screen should not be planted in dry areas as dehydration can occur. Example: planting Green Screen 1.20 x 1.80 m with steel posts and brackets The steel posts provide stability. They are placed in a concrete foundation. Wind the new ivy shoots through the grid. Growth of the Roots not be hindered by impermeable layers such as clay or concrete. Colouration of the leaves The Ivy species Woerner is known for this typical change in colour of the leaves when winter arrives. Because of the lower temperatures the leaf cells produce a protection against the cold which makes the leaves change colour. When the weather gets warmer, the substances that make the leaves change colour are reduced and the leaves will turn green again. Mobilane1-2011

16 Care for the first winter it is well watered to achieve a good root system before winter. advance. In frozen soil the plant can not absorb water, even though it will lose moisture by evaporation through the leaves. snowfall. If you want your Green Screen to develop into a beautiful dense hedge, regular watering, fertilizer and pruning are needed. Note the following treatment guidelines: Irrigation and stems may be affected by rot. Regular watering is necessary but between watering, the soil must have a chance to dry. lose water through evaporation. When the soil is dry and free of frost it is advisable to water the Green Screen. the planter has sufficient drainage. programmer. This needs to be checked regularly to ensure the hose is not clogged or leaking. Feeding the leaves develop well. This is done using slow-release fertilizers, at least once a The type of fertilizer to use depends on the nutritional level of the soil. On poor or exhausted soils, additional fertilizer is needed. In case of doubt about the nutritional level of the soil and the fertilization needed, a soil sample can be analysed by a soil research laboratory. Mobilane1-2011
