1 Stoney Creek Garden Club & Horticultural Society s 2012 FLOWER SHOW RULES and REGULATIONS & FLOWER SHOW SCHEDULES
2 FLOWER SHOW RULES AND REGULATIONS Only members in Good Standing (of at least one month) may enter flower shows. Judges follow the Ontario Judging and Exhibiting Standards for Horticulture and Floral Design, Publication 34/2003, published by the Ontario Horticultural Association and Garden Clubs of Ontario. Exhibits will be received between 6:15 and 7:15 p.m. Judging to begin at 7:30 p.m. (at which time exhibitors must leave the hall). Once judging has commenced, exhibitors are not allowed to move or change exhibits. To facilitate judging, show conveners at their discretion, may move entries, or subdivide or combine classes. Competitors may enter a maximum of 3 exhibits, provided each specimen is a different cultivar/ variety/ species in each class of the horticultural section. All specimens, whether cut, container grown, collections or displays, etc., MUST have been grown by the exhibitor. Every entry must be accompanied by an entry tag properly filled out and closed. Entry tags are always available in the show hall. A complete list of entries including class, section and exhibitor s name must be given to the clerk when entries are brought in. Exhibitors will provide their own containers for specimen blooms at their own risk. The Stoney Creek Garden Club will not be responsible for lost or damaged containers or accessories. The decision of the Judges is final. No exhibit will be entitled to a prize if it does not possess points of merit, even though it may be the only entry in the class. When a definite number or quantity of blooms are indicated in the show schedule that number must be strictly adhered to. Specimens must be shown with their own (attached) foliage only. In all horticultural exhibits, make sure your plant material is free from dust, disease and insect damage. When a particular number of blooms are specified in a class, remember that a bud showing colour is considered a bloom. For best presentation, blooms should be one-half to two-thirds open. If a spray is requested, not all buds need to be open. A Specimen Bloom is one bloom on a single stem. No side buds are permitted. Unwanted side growth may be removed. A collection is a number of varieties of flowers, plants, etc. shown in one exhibit. Quality is as important as quantity. Potted plants may have only one cultivar per pot unless stated otherwise. Plants should be clean and well-groomed. Insect-infested or diseased entries will be removed from the show. The quality of or condition of the exhibit at the time of judging is an important factor. Try to make sure the exhibit is fresh, free of blemishes, with dead leaves and flowers removed. Scarce, protected or endangered native plants or poisonous plants will be disqualified. Refer to: Government of Ontario, Ministry of Natural Resources Endangered Species Act. Refer to Decorative Rules All entries must be the work of the exhibitor. An exhibitor is permitted only one entry in each Decorative Class. Some fresh plant material must be included in all designs unless otherwise stated. Unless otherwise stated, any type of plant material may be used, such as fruit, branches, decorative wood, dried flowers, preserved or treated material. All material including flowers may be obtained from any source. A judicious use of painted material is permitted, but no artificial material is allowed. Unless otherwise stated, accessories (fabric, candles, stones etc.) may be used with any arrangement, but must be part of the design. Wiring of flowers is allowed but wire and other mechanics must not be visible. Although every reasonable care will be taken, the Society will not be responsible for loss or damage of containers or accessories. Use at your own risk. No entry may be removed from the show area before the flower show is completed. To do so may result in forfeit of any given prize/points. FLOWER SHOW CHAIR GWEN ALLAN MARGARET BOSNYAK Please contact Margaret or Gwen if you have any questions or concerns.
