5 General Rules & Regulations 1. Entry tags are available, in advance, from Registrar by request. Entry forms are available at: or 2. Both top and bottom parts of entry tags MUST be completely filled in OR prize money cannot be awarded. 3. All entries will be received on Wednesday, March 5 th from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Deliver entries to the OHA display area on Level 300 of the North Building, Metro Toronto Convention Center. Use Internal Street (at the rear of the building accessed from Simcoe Street) for drop off before continuing to the parking area. All exhibitors must preregister in order to receive discount parking passes. No entries will be received on Thursday, March 6 th, Entry fees of $1.00 per entry (IN CASH ONLY) are payable upon registration at the show after entries have been passed by the Classification Committee. Entry fees will be accepted on-site by a member of the Show Committee on March 5 th ONLY! 5. All entries must be on display for the entire four days. Exhibitors are responsible for keeping entries in show condition for the duration of the show. Design entries may not be altered, replacement materials must be the same (type, colour etc.) as original materials used. Prize money may be withheld should an exhibit not be maintained. If you are unable to maintain your exhibit, ensure someone does it for you. The Show Committee reserves the right to remove any entry that does not meet the standards of the show. 6. Reasonable security will be supplied for the exhibitor's property. However, Show Management and the OHA will not assume responsibility or liability for lost or stolen property. 7. Cash awards will be mailed following the conclusion of the Successful Gardening Show. Any discrepancies in prize money paid out must be reported within thirty (30) days from the date of the cheque. No appeals will be considered after that date. 8. Judging will be done according to Ontario Judging & Exhibiting Standards Publication, 2003 edition, or with Specialized Society written rules. 9. All Entries must be picked up between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9 th. 10. Entries of or including endangered, protected, or scarce native species are not permitted. Refer to Ont. Ministry of Natural Resources Endangered Species Act or Design/Society Rules & Regulations 1. Design Entries must be pre-registered by February 28th in order to have entry tags and admission passes available to exhibitors. Early pre-registration for the Design Classes is mandatory to ensure space is available. Pre-registration is complete upon receipt, by the exhibitor, of a confirmation from the registrar, Wendy Gay. Note: Class No. s 1 7 & 11 will be limited to 6 entries per class. Classes 8, 9 & 10 are limited to 8 entries per class. 2. Only one entry per class per exhibitor is permitted. 3. Fresh plant material must be included in every class unless otherwise specified. Accessories permitted. Designs viewed from front unless otherwise stated. A judicious use of painted or dyed fresh plant material is acceptable. 4. Classes No. 1-7 & No. 11 will be displayed in white niches 24 wide x 36 high. Space should be adequately filled. A dowel will be supplied for Class No. 4 hanging design. Class 8 entries will be displayed on a navy blue cloth and viewed from all around. 5. Miniature designs will be displayed in open white L shaped niches 5 ¾ wide x 6 high x 5 deep. 6. A Best In Show rosette and cash award of $10 will be awarded to the best design in Classes A Judge s Choice rosette with a cash award of $10 will be awarded at the discretion of the Design Judge in Classes Invitational Class Design area allotted in the Invitational Class is 4' 4' on a black base with an 8' silver grey background. Maximum design height is 7' from the floor. 9. Society Class - Entries will be on a first come first serve basis with a limit of 5 Societies only. Place cards will be created for each entry promoting the society meeting details. Early pre-registration for the Society Class with the Convenor, Cathy Faber, is mandatory to ensure space is available. Entry forms must be received by February 28 th. Pre-registration is complete upon receipt, by the exhibitor, of a confirmation from Cathy Faber. The design must completely fill the 16 x 16 x 2.5 black frame provided. Frames are available to exhibitors once registration has been received and acknowledged. Entries will be staged on a 20 x 20 x 20 cube covered in a taupe coloured cloth, viewed all around. 10. Design staging must be completed by 10 p.m., March 5th. Once passed by the Classification Committee, designs may not be changed prior to Judging. Judging begins at 8:00 a.m., March 6 th. 5
6 Horticultural Rules & Regulations NOTE: Exhibitors of Horticultural entries are encouraged to pre-register. However, entries will be accepted on Wed., March 5 th without pre-registering. In order to receive a discount parking pass, exhibitors must preregister. 1. All plants must have been grown by the exhibitor for at least three months. The only exception to this rule is Section F, classes Plants should be named. 2. Exhibitors are allowed more than one entry per class, with the exception of Section F, provided they are of different cultivars. If more than one entry of the same cultivar is entered in any one class, by the same exhibitor, all their entries in the class will be disqualified and any awards given will be null and void. 3. A single plant within any form of collection is not eligible to receive an award on its own merit. The collection is judged as a whole entry. 4. In any class, the judge may award up to 2 Honourable Mentions. 5. A Best In Section rosette and a cash award of $10.00 will be awarded in each section where merited. 6. A Judge s Choice ribbon may be awarded in each Horticultural Section at the discretion of the Judge. There is no cash value attached to this award. 7. Horticultural staging must be completed by 10:00 p.m., March 5 th. All entries must be passed by the Classification Committee before being placed. Only Show Committee members are authorized to move entries for spacing purposes. Judging will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 6th.
