DESIGN & SIZING GUIDE
GRAVITY BLUMAT DIAGRAMS These basic designs show grow rooms with a gravity reservoir. The bleed valve on the end is important for lerng out air and sediment that might build up. Making a loop instead of only one line is a kind of insurance policy in case something falls on the line and blocks it from one directon. It also helps equalize the pressure. Most people also like to have valves and sometmes quick connects on the beginning of each line so you can turn the flow off when working on the system. By making a loop instead of only going in a straight line, pressure is equalized. This also assures that if by mistake the line is blocked or kinked, water will s=ll get to all the plants. By pu>ng a valve at the middle of the loop, you can easily let our air bubbles and sediment that might develop. Flush Valve Basic design for several rows in a gravity system. RESERVOIR AIR PURGE VALVE 2

PRESSURE PUMP DIAGRAMS This system show 120 plants, but the pacern can increase or decrease in multples as in the second picture below. ½ Poly Pipe Connector Hose Blumat Carrot In Pot This easy to install and simple pump system lets you use a larger reservoir, more distributon drippers, more Blumat sensors (up to 500), gives you more even pressure, and requires less maintenance. All you ll need to do is fill the reservoir with water, add nutrients and your special secrets - that's it untl the reservoir needs to be filled again. No more having to be at the grow room everyday and maneuvering through your plants to hand water or refill a small reservoir. It also allows you to fill your available space Tghter with plants as you re not having to make room for you to hand water. 5

CONTAINER DIAGRAMS GOOD 1 qty 5 carrot 1 qty White Soaker Hose Designed for inexpensive crops - ones that don t need to maximize the yield. These systems designed for small raised beds and large fabric pots 65 gallon & up have several variatons depending on the kind and value of plants. For inexpensive vegetables like lecuce and row crop greens, use the more simple and less expensive systems with just the Blumat soaker hose. For very valuable crops, the deluxe systems offer levels of redundancy and precise moisture level control. These systems also let the plants use much more of the porng mix they don t let big areas of the plantng mix get too dry for roots to grow into. BETTER 2 qty 5 carrot 1 qty 9 carrot 6 qty DistribuTon Drippers 1 qty White Soaker Hose Works for more expensive crops if someone is frequently watching the plants. BEST 2 qty 5 carrot 1 qty 9 carrot 1 qty 16 carrot 8 qty DistribuTon Drippers 1 qty White Soaker Hose Assures more of the plantng mix is moist enough for the roots to grow into and includes lots of redundancy to counteract Murphy s Law, (ie: if a rock falls on a line, an animal chews through or pulls out a carrot, a piece of Perlite clogs up some tubing your plants will stll be fine). This picture shows a horizontal carrot and two regular sized ones. The two smaller carrots are placed too close to the middle, becer if about halfway between stock and side of pot put further from the edge in smart pots, closer in plastc and furthest away with air pots. If adding distributon drippers, best to add them to only one or both of the smaller carrots. 7

This can vary quite a bit though depending on the kind of pot used, the plantng mix, humidity, temperature, etc. PRESSURE PUMP Use this system when you want to add nutrients to the reservoir water or when you re pumping out of a ditch, well, or using rainwater. The pump fills the pressure tank, the tank pressurizes the line and automatcally turns the pump on and off as needed. GRAVITY Gravity systems work for either small areas or large farms when the water tank can be high in the air, over 30 up. FAUCET PRESSURE UTlity water supply installaton is simple and inexpensive. You can stll add nutrients with a fertlizer injector system. Our Dosatrons fertlizer injectors will work if you have at least 100 plants, other systems can be less expensive but need over 1500 plants to work properly. If you already have a pump, you can just add a pressure tank and pressure reducers. ½ Poly Pipe Connector Hose Blumat Carrot Soaker Hose 8
Blu Carrot Soaker Hose InstallaTon Attach IG16217 Measuring tool to the end of a BluSoak tape line. If with a good valve (globe valves hardest to Bind but work the best) you can adjust the water level in the tube until it s up. At that point, the soaker hose when on will use about ¼ gallon per foot per 24 hours. The amount of water is in the same ratio as the water level e.g. if you double the height, you will double the water Blow. Kit includes: 5 1 Soaker Hose Connector/ Valve ft of clear vinyl tubing 2 in of 8mm black supply line 1 Blumat Elbow 4 Strips of Garden Tape 9
ACCESSORIES & DESIGN IDEAS Poke a small hole under the Blumat drip and fill your favorite nutrients. A Nutrient Well is an easy and effectve way to use nutrients that might be too thick to go through a reservoir. Examples are things like fish emulsion, molasses, and thick organic teas. Because Blumats supply water is so slowly, you don t have to worry about the nutrients draining away. Every Tme water goes to your plants, a licle more fertlizer dissolves. You can also use this method with thinner, more liquid nutrients be first purng vermiculite in the hole to act as a kind of sponge. Water Nutrients Foot Valve Connec:ng System If connectng a Blumat pump system to a reservoir through the side or bocom is inconvenient or not possible, this opton makes it easy to mount the pump above the reservoir without losing the prime. The foot valve stops the water from going back down into the reservoir and air gerng into the line each Tme the pump turns off. This includes 6' of special flex- tube, a foot valve, clamps and firngs that will connect into the filter or pump. Dual Reservoir Hook- up You can have nutrients in one, plain water in the other, or different combinaton of different additves and easy switch back and forth. Cu>ng a V in a plant label is an easy and inexpensive way to raise the drip line and prevent roots from growing into it. If you put a Maxi horizontal instead of ver=cal in a pot so it senses just under the root ball, you can use less Blumats than are normally recommended. 10
CROP ROW CONNECTION INSTRUCTIONS Main Supply Line to Soaker Hose 1. Unscrew the tops and fill the Blumat Carrots with water. 2. Screw the tops back on :ghtly. 3. Soak for at least an hour underwater. 4. Connect to water supply. (poly pipe, drip tubing, PVC) 7. Connect the distribu:on dripper. Helps adjust required moisture level. 9. Cut soaker hose from feet and connect unit. 5. Water Connect quick- connect shut- off valve. Allows for fast manual water on, off, or disconnect. 6. Connect Blumat Carrot Senses moisture, automa:cally adjusts water flow, and turns it on and off 8. Connect adapter from 3mm Blumat line to soaker hose. 10. Connect the end piece. Stops water and lets you clean the line. 11. Water the garden to the level desired, push the Blumat Carrot in where you would like the moisture sensed. 11

ARE BLUMATS EXPENSIVE? 1. How much is your Tme worth? Depending on how many plants in the system, Blumats can save hours per cycle over hand watering. MulTply your hourly rate Tmes the amount of hand watering Tme you do per day, per grow cycle and compare that to how much a Blumat system will cost. 2. How much are you paying for nutrients? Because they don't need to have any run- off, Blumats typically use 1/3 to 1/2 of the nutrients used before installing. Divide the amount you're paying for nutrient by 2 and compare that to the cost of a Blumat system. 3. How long will you be using them? We have customers who have been using the same Blumat carrots for years. Divide the Blumat system cost by the number of years you plan to keeping using them and compare that to the numbers in 1 and 2 above. 4. Hand watering uses much more but even a typical drip emicer uses 1 gallon per hour. A typical Blumat uses 1/4 gallon per 24 hours (0.01 gallons per hour). Many places are startng to put restrictons on water use and it looks likely that this will increase in the near future. 5. In large systems and dispensaries, state regulatons are testng waste water for contaminaton and can fine and even shut down operatons if not compliant. With Blumats, you won't have any waste at all. 6. Healthier, happier plants, with higher yield. Normally, the extra yield from providing plants just the right amount of water will more than pay for the cost of a Blumat system. 7. Becer use of Tme. Some Blumat users have used the extra Tme Blumat systems give them to double their grow size doubling their profits. (You'll even have Tme to go on vacaton!) Blumats are NOT expensive! Blumats make an investment that quickly pays for itself and gives amazing results. 13
