Refined Elegance Until just recently, Brunkebergstorg was largely neglected. The quiet street, just a few hundred metres from the bustling shopping area of Stockholm s city centre, was only of interest to fans of modern architecture. Two buildings in the district, the Swedish Riksbankshuset and the Kulturhuset were both built in the 1960s and 70s by the famous Swedish architect Peter Celsing. But with the opening of the two innovative hotels At Six and Hobo, the former commercial district which in the 19th century was the place to be and be seen for Stockholm s high society is experiencing a real renaissance. While the lifestyle hotel Hobo is particularly appealing to the younger, creative scene, the elegant At Six is a new meeting place for business people and urban tourists, who are interested in art and design and value comfort. 2 Art Hotel with an International Reputation Like the Hobo Hotel, At Six also belongs to the Nordic Hotels & Resorts. Both hotels are operated by Petter Stordalen, whom the media calls the rock star of the hotel industry. The Norwegian billionaire has repeatedly staged spectacular hotel openings, which include sensational stunts he performs himself. Former museum director Sune Nordgren, well-known in Sweden as an artist, critic and television moderator, is responsible for the hotel s combination of elegant design, international art and Swedish tradition. He curated the works of acclaimed artists on display throughout At Six, including pieces by the Danish-Islandic artist Olafur Eliason, the English artist Tacita Dean, the Dutch artist Marijke van Warmerdam and the Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa, whose imposing marble sculpture graces the lobby staircase. As part of the hotel s interior and ambience, I want art to have its own independent presence. Art can be welcoming, but it can also be an eye opener and contribute to the overall experience in a very positive way. Hotel guests may be impressed or surprised, but whatever case, they will remember the hotel s uniqueness and of course come back again, explains Sune Nordgren, At Six s art curator. Art Meets Comfort The 343 spacious rooms and suites with their large panoramic windows are also artfully laid out. Like the rest of the hotel s spaces, the rooms were created by London-based Universal Design Studio, an internationally active and multi-award winning architecture and design practice. Furnishings and lighting by designers such as Barber & Osgerby, Cassina, Areti and Rubn make the spaces a visual pleasure. The interiors feature a skilful mix of cool, hard materials including marble, blackened steel and polished granite contrasting with softer materials such as fine woods and natural leather. This is all crowned by Tak, the rooftop restaurant with a fabulous view of the city, where Chef de Cuisine Frida Ronge puts her gastronomic mark on Brunkebergstorg serving the finest Swedish-Japanese cuisine. A 2,000 square metre conference room, as well as an event space, a wine and a cocktail bar and a bakery round off the hotel s amenities. Luxurious Bathing Pleasure In a hotel with such high standards, style and comfort do not stop at the bathroom door. The bathroom fittings selected by Universal Design Studio and the hotel itself attest to this. The

3 striking taps were created by the grand seigneur of Italian design: Antonio Citterio, who has influenced his craft like no one else. Timeless shapes and a perfect eye for the interaction of clean edges and soft curves are his signature style. In the AXOR Citterio collection, he evokes the neoclassicism of 1930s Italian architecture, a pleasing interplay between angular and rounded shapes. In his designs, the aesthetic aspect becomes a principle because he is convinced that Whoever likes to celebrate the daily ritual of washing and bathing, should do so with beautiful products. The single-lever handles of the AXOR Citterio washbasin taps in place at the hotel are also characteristic of this collection. The AXOR FinishPlus Brushed Bronze surface makes their luminous flat surfaces particularly stunning; they radiate a monumental elegance, befitting of the presidential suite. The suite not only offers guests panoramic views while they bathe, but also a floor-standing bathtub tap by AXOR Citterio. And because nothing should be left to chance in a high-end bathroom, the hue, design and materials of the accessories are perfectly coordinated: The clean lines and timeless elegance of the towel holders and shelves of the AXOR Universal Accessories range are more than decorative touches every accessory is a masterpiece in its own right.
