8 Installation We recommend the double bond or direct stick method for commercial installations. Designer Rugs carpet should be installed in accordance with AS/NZS Textile floor coverings Installation practice General. We recommend smooth edge for the perimeter for double bond. Maintenance: All carpets should be vacuumed at least 1-2 times each week and steam cleaned by a Carpet cleaning professional every 12 to 18 months. Any spillages should be cleaned promptly. Colour Variance: Shade or pattern may vary from sample and dyelots and within production runs due to normal dyelot variation but will be within recognised textile industry standards. Colour appearance can also vary depending upon type of light under which a sample is viewed and the light sources where the carpet is installed. Permanent Pile Reversal: Light can play strange tricks with carpet, making it appear from certain angles, that particular areas are lighter or darker than others. Known as shading, it is due to the pressure on the pile during use forcing the pile to lay in different directions this results in light refraction and is a common characteristic of cut-pile carpets. This is cosmetic only, there is no detrimental effect on the carpet's performance. Patterned Carpet We use the best available techniques to minimise pattern distortion during manufacture, the extensible nature of textile products means that some distortion due to shrinkage or stretch during and after manufacture is unavoidable, such that the perfect pattern match cannot be guaranteed. Installation of patterned carpets will require more time and skill - a competent carpet layer should able to obtain a close pattern match in most circumstances though some irregularities may still be visible, particularly over multiple width installations. Fading Like all dyed textiles, carpets will slowly lose colour over time when exposed to direct sunlight and should be protected from prolonged periods of direct sun exposure. Colour change is also possible as a result of ozone, emissions from heating fuels and air conditioners, pesticides, cleaning agents, benzol peroxide and some household items. The occurrence, known as ozone damage, is largely unexplained, but appears to be more prevalent in coastal areas with a high ultraviolet content.
