6 history of pennzoil building The Pennzoil Place Towers are located in the heart of downtown Houston, Texas and was completed in Designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee, these towers have 36 stories a piece, and combined have over 1,400,000 square feet of rentable space for companies. Pennzoil Place's appearance will differ depending on which location you are currently viewing it from. The different views are due because the two buildings are separated by a ten-foot-wide spatial void and connected by a 115-foot-high, glass atrium. Philip Johnson and John Burgee put a lot of thought and detail into the Pennzoil Place when designing it. Today, this building is considered significant in architectural circles, and known for breaking the modernist glass box design made popular by followers of postmodernism. The exterior floor to ceiling glass walls made out of dark bronze glass allows an ample amount of natural light to come through and light up the interior without the need for much artificial lighting, which is exactly how both Johnson and Burgee designed it. Sinc the Pennzoil Company is a major energy company, natural light is key in this design. office trends Office trends are always at a constant flux. Since this change is driven by mobile technology, the growing presence of the younger generation, change of space size, and changing work styles, today s workplaces are changing compared to just even a couple of years ago; today s workplaces are a notable departure from those of the past. With the help of architects and interior designer s that keep up with the changing trends, offices in today s society are taking advantage of their space like never before. The walls in offices are now coming down and the perimeter offices are now disappearing. The floor plans that were once closed in are now becoming more open, as well as having fun and trendy break areas. Collaboration is the new work model, which is why we are saying goodbye to big private offices. Providing spaces that are more collaborative and support the need to balance both team time and think time is key to productivity within office spaces. Within the ThomasZimmerman Architecture Firm, workers try to reinforce a sense of community and loyalty within their workplace. Due to the new trends in 2016 with office design, collaboration is able to be more effective thanks to the new options in modular systems. As well as having an modular and open floor plan, today s workforce also requires multiple touchdown spaces. With having touchdown spaces that allow workers to be more plug and go, they typically only require a minimal amount of furniture and space. This helps with the new trend of offices being very simple and minimalistic. Office design is going towards more modular systems in the open offices that allow the layout to be more flexible. Creating modular systems also play a big role in sustainability. Instead of having to throw away expensive interior systems, walls, and ceilings if workers decide to move locations, these modular desk systems help with saving the company money and the production of new materials. At the ThomasZimmerman Architecture Firm, workers will be able to experience an open layout centered around collaboration and community. 7 Concept The 14th and 15th floor of the Pennzoil Building, located in Houston, Texas, will be home to the architectural firm ThomasZimmerman Architects. The design concept behind ThomasZimmerman Architects is to create a space that is inviting to clients and also an enlivening atmosphere for the firm s employees. Cool blues, bright yellows, and cool grays will harmoniously blend with glass, wood, and metals to create an industrial feel with hints of contemporary elements. By using metal accents on the reception desk, stairs, and furniture pieces, the industrial style will be further enhanced by incorporating sleek floorto-ceiling glass walls with sliding glass barn doors. Movable walls and access flooring will allow the owners to redesign the space when necessary and as efficiently as possible. Exterior glass walls surrounding the entire existing perimeter of the building will be used around a portion of the office to allow maximum sunlight inside the building. Triangle ceiling accents will be placed throughout the different areas to add a contemporary pop. Adding extra space to the floor plan will optimize collaboration between colleagues. Plush seating, quite rooms, coffee lounges, and breakout spaces will encourage relationships between employees and clients. White noise and acoustical materials such as upholstered furniture and carpet tiles and will be added in locations throughout the building to cut down on unnecessary noises. inspiration photos codes summary Goals 1.
