OUR 3REPUTATION 1967 In 1967, the Texas Legislature created the at the University of Texas at Arlington. Based in one of Texas largest urban centers, IUS was authorized to provide consultative services and conduct training and instructional programs for those in or desiring to enter public service and engage in applied research into urban issues. Since then, IUS has continually strengthened the urban, ecological, and social fabrics of Texas and beyond in partnership with the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
OUR 3REPUTATION 1967 2015 The School of Architecture and the School of Urban and Public Affairs combined to form the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA). The new college hosts the Institute of Urban Studies, which expands the complementary resources and talents available to our communities.
OUR 3REPUTATION 1967 2015 TODAY The five-month IUS study Fair Park: The Reinvigoration of a National Treasure was featured in D Magazine and The Dallas Morning News. Dallas is targeting downtown walkability through a collaborative study with IUS in order to improve the street-level experience for people who work, live, and visit downtown Dallas. Dallas Executive Airport is looking to IUS for help with identifying future development opportunities on airport property through a land-use study. The main objectives are economic growth for the airport and surrounding neighborhoods and an enhanced quality of life for residents of adjacent communities.

Palestine 2040 The Palestine 2014 plan identified four key projects: A downtown redevelopment plan for Palestine s historic downtown area A neighborhood program to engage and involve citizens A citywide greenway and trails network to preserve green space and connect neighborhoods with retail and park and recreation facilities A medical district to further develop a nascent medical services sector within the city
Bunche Park/Dunbar High School Plan The final park concept included: A central plaza with food court space to serve as a multi purpose area for festivals and community activities A community library with study facilities and programming for high school and middle school after school enrichment Open space and rest areas within the park, including picnic tables and artistic seating Bike and pedestrian trails connecting within the park and to schools and included sports fields A community garden

INSTITUTE OF URBAN STUDIES Our mission is to invite collaboration between graduate students, faculty, staff, and practitioners to investigate pressing issues within our places of work, residence, and recreation and formulate innovative solutions, then inform professional, academic, policymaking, and civil organizations and implement solutions in communities throughout the state.
