From June Regents Presentation Summary and Next Steps: Option A, Siting for University Commons 1 2 3 4 Continue process of converting administrative space to academic space around The Quad. University Avenue should remain open to through traffic due to extreme impact on vehicular traffic through campus and benefit of visibility/activity of vehicles. However, improvements/modifications should be employed to enhance pedestrian priority of this area as well as Georgia Avenue. Do not build on the Rebel s Rest site in the short term. Maintain this site for future key development opportunities. Utilize rear area for expansion of parking in the short term using sustainable best practices for site development. Focus University Commons considerations on two sites: Thompson Union and Fulford Hall sites.
From June Regents Presentation Summary and Next Steps: Option B, Siting for University Commons 5 6 7 Perform facility conditions assessment and historic contribution assessment of Fulford Hall to determine future renovation, addition, relocation or deconstruction. Consider locating Sewanee Outdoors Program into Globe location. Renovate Globe and Bookstore to address facility needs and accessibility. Expand parking behind Globe area. Further study traffic impact and potential for removing South Carolina Avenue intersection at University Avenue.

Looking South Along University Avenue Looking Toward the Quad from Fulford Hall Looking North Along University Avenue
Option A University Commons on Thompson Union Site Key Points: Maintains Fulford Hall Maintains Rebel s Rest site as contiguous site for future development Strong site for UC Less parking support Less presence on University Avenue Opportunity for views into Abbo s Alley Possibly tuck more building mass into the slope Higher site costs From Centerbrook proposal Test Concept Diagram Building Use Diagram Academic Admissions + Student Services Residential Student Life Plaza Space Support / Community
Option B University Commons on Fulford Site Key Points: Places UC directly across the Quad Renovate or reconstruct Thompson Union site for Admissions, Student Services, and Advancement Better parking support for UC Splits contiguous site for the long-term future development Requires relocation of Fulford Hall Test Concept Diagram Building Use Diagram Academic Admissions + Student Services Residential Student Life Plaza Space Support / Community

Update on University Avenue Study September 21, 2015 Summary Continue steps to activate The Quad and the campus core in accordance with the Master Plan. In siting the UC, prioritize visible connections to and from spaces within the UC to The Quad and University Avenue. Both the Fulford and Thompson Union sites are approaching maximum building capacity to accommodate 50,000 GSF. Consider options to trim the UC Program on site. Consider the totality of student life and community functions along University Avenue corridor.
