4 Current situation at the University Possible reasons for the situation: So far there is no concept for residual waste management, quantity and costs can only be estimated Insufficient separation Many University members gave up separation because they are convinced that the cleaning staff puts everything back in one bag Provided containers only for residual waste and paper Only few members separate packaging waste voluntarily Disposal mainly via 1.1 t container (emptied weekly) instead via cheaper compactors (emptied if requiered) The University does not have incentives to change the situation, because Vermögen&Bau will profit from savings

5 Infrastructural solutions Additional containers for packaging waste in offices, kitchens, corridors Optimized separation of paper and packaging has a saving potential up to per year Identification of unnecessary 1.1 t containers Monthly collection of glass waste and transport to containers Waste reducing procurement in coordination with the Studentenwerk

6 Infrastructural solutions Hand dryer instead of paper towels Costs for procurement and disposal of paper towels: per year Paper towels cannot be recyceled for hygienic reasons Cold air hand dryers dry in 10 sec. Low energy consumption Price: ca hire-purchase of 10 Dyson airblades AB03 is profitable after 0.77 years (on the basis of paper consumption in the biology buliding) Makes sense in high consumption areas
