OUR OUR COM COMPA MPANY ANY Furnace Improvements Services (FIS) was establishedd in March 1996 in Sugar Land, TX. Our mission is to improve the performance of fired heaters. FIS began providing engineering studies for fired heaters that recommended solutions to customers with operational problems. FIS also saw a need for training engineers and operators on how to operate fired heaters optimally and started offering heater training courses. Progressing from consulting and training services, FIS revamped its first heater in and subsequently supplied its firstt new heater in For over 18 years now, FIS has been helping end users and ownerss with design and engineering services to improve the performance and efficiency of their fired heaters and boilers as well as help reduce refinery NOx emissions. FIS has performedd over 400 studies for clients like CITGO, Valero, ConocoPhillip ps, Alon, Frontier, and TOTAL. FIS currently hass offices in Sugar Land, TX, and in New Delhi, India. We have been growingg at the ratee of 35% per year with a vision to be the ultimate technology provider for fired heaters and boilers. Our Expertise FIS can design and revamp all types of refinery fired heaters including crude, vacuum, catalytic reformer, hot oil, coker heater and CO boilers. FIS alsoo provides complete turn key services for the design, engineering, and supply of new fired heaters to end users. Our designs are the most economical, efficient, and reliable. We ensure that key design parameters are not compromised and heaters perform to their fulll capacity from day one..
OUR REVAM COMPANY MPED HEATER RS Revamping fired heaters is a practical and effective way to improve heater performance. This strategy focuses on working with existing components s, and as a result, capital investment and downtime are minimized. 6 New FIS PATENTED TECHNOLOGIES Furnace Improvements patented four technologies for improving the performance of fired heaters. These patented technologies are aimed at overcoming existing limitations in the capacity and efficiency of heaters as well as resolving operational problems. Technology Split Flow Technology Flue Gas Injection Inclined Firing System Spider Gas Tip Application Increases capacity with limited process side pressure drop Reduces coking & tube metal temperatures Reduces flame impingement and high tube metal temperatures Shorter flame gas burners Two of these technologies are highlighted below. Inclined Firing System Most tube failures in fired heaters occur due to high tube metal temperatures (TMTs). Flame impingement due to long burner flames results in higher TMTs and coking that affect the performance of the heater. Furnace Improvements developed the patented Inclined Firing System (IFS) to reduce flame impingement on heater tubes. With this burner arrangement, a heater will have the following advantages: Elimination of hot spots Longer tube life Increased heater run lengths More uniform heat transfer along the tubes lengths Lower coking rates of internal tube surfaces s report F lower TMTs with the Inclined Firing System. Base Case Inclined Firing System Base Case Inclined Firing System Above: CFD Modeling illustrates how IFS reduces flame impingement by angling the flame away from the heater tubes.
New FIS PATENTED TECHNOLOGIES Split Flow Technology When refiners wish to increase the capacity of their fired heaters, Split Flow aims to improve the utilization of thermal energy for process heating. This objective is achieved by splitting the process fluid into two parallel streams: Main Stream: The fluid in the first stream is heated predominantly by the convective and radiant heat transfer mechanism. Split Stream: The fluid in the second stream is heated predominantly by the convective heat transfer mechanism. Typical Reformer Heater Split Flow Reformer Heater The streams are then combined at the heater outlet. This technology has been used very successfully for capacity increase revamps of fired heaters particularly in Platformer heaters. It is suitable for increasing the capacity of a heater by 15 30%. Other advantages of the Split Flow Technology include: Higher heater efficiency Lower process pressure drop Lower firing rate Lower firebox temperatures Lower radiant heat fluxes Lower TMTs Lower installation costs
New CFD M MODELING At Furnace Improvements, we utilize CFD modeling to analyze problems and provide solutions. This tool enables us to study the existing design and operating conditions of heaters and determine recommendations for solving any difficulties. CFD gives a competitive edge over other analyses due to its visual presentation of the observed conditions and proposed modifications s. The following are a few areas where FIS has used this tool effectively: 1. Flow maldistribution 2. Mixing (ammonia injection grid & flue gas recirculation mix box design) 3. Combustion design) 4. Tube failures 5. Heat transferr (burner & heater CFD Modeling of Flow Distribution in an Economizer Coil However, the CFD applications are not limited to these items. FIS is making every effort to explore its varied applications and use this powerful tool if and when it is required. CFD Modeling of U40 Boiler Turbine Fan WRB Refinery
New FIS EN GINEERING SERVICE ES FIS uses 3D modeling software to model both existing and proposed designs for customers in order that details may be more easily visualized. It is possible to employ the use of cut always and exploded views to increasee the understanding of the smallerr pieces of a fired heater or model the entire heater for a big picture view.
