The compact Jet Wave Solder pump assembly has an energy saving low capacity cast iron solder pot assembly incorporating an electromagnet linear motor assembly supported from the pot but separated by a diamagnetic titanium sheet seal. Process Quality in Demand Worldwide With no moving parts and using inductive power technology the linear motor stator generates a magnetic field to pump the solder. The magnet field is closed by the precision pump channels in the base of the solder pot that act as secondary windings working just like a transformer. The generated inductive power pumps the solder to the working titanium jet wave nozzle, effortlessly with a fully controllable constant flow something unattainable from conventional impeller type pump systems. Kirsten - Masters in lead free soldering for over 15 years hollow jet wave titanium wave nozzle 3 deflection sheet heating rods 5 linear motor 6 solder pot (enamelled) 7 solder 8 solder runback The exchange effect between magnetic fields and induced currents creates the necessary pump force to generate the wave form. The even distribution of pressure over the whole width of the wave is achieved from the patented design arrangement of the multiple solder channels machined within the pump base - 1 for a 360mm (1, ) soldering width. The linear motor is configured to match the pump channel profiles with the respective gaps providing the necessary airways to cool the stator. 3 The flexible wave Large boards tend to warp during soldering. The jet-wave compensates automatically differences in height, thus eliminating unsoldered zones. The jet-wave is flexible and adapts itself to the lower surface of the PCB. Easy adjustment of wave height. Pulling-down effect The jet-wave is projected to the lower surface of the PCB, where it clings and pulls the PCB and the components down by its weight and due to the Bernoulli effect. With the jet-wave, holding downclamps are never necessary. V When the speed of a liquid is increased, dynamic pressure grows with the square of the speed. Total pressure remains constant, static pressure must drop. A row of tinned steel rods (1-8 mm / Ø) dipping in a hollow wave with 0,8 m/min velocity are perfectly surrounded. The Kirsten jet-wave creates a special hydrodynamic condition, similar to the air flowing around an aircraft wing, forcing the solder around obstacles. Flow physics around a SMD General solder speed = V 1 Around an obstacle, the solder has to flow over a longer distance, the speed is raised to V and the static pressure drops as indicated by the blue arrows. The solder is therefore pressed from all sides toward the surface of a SMD. The high-speed hollow wave also creates a mechanical scrubbing effect, helping the flux to clean oxidized surfaces. Low heat load Heat exposure over the jet-wave is minimal, as the contact zone of the PCB over the jet-wave is short (min. wetting time). The contact width of the wave is selfadjusting to conductor surface. The wave maintains the necessary contact time on small and large tracks automatically. Jet-wave compared to solid /double waves provides 8 times more heat transfer at only 0% heat load. - No bridging - No shadow effects - No additional or special wave - Perfectly soldered SMD s Fine pitch and fine line technology The Kirsten jet-wave is especially suited to solder fine line PCB s. Track width of 0,1 mm ( MIL.) and gaps of 0, mm (8 MIL.) present no problem. Fine pitch down to 0, mm (16 MIL.). The limit of miniaturisation is given by the etching technology and not by the wave. 4 With the patented jet wave solder pump with linear motor and the consequent concentration of a single counter flow hollow jet-wave, Kirsten has revolutionized the PCB soldering process in the last few years. Sceptics as well as defenders of double wave concepts have been convinced with the excellent soldering results achieved in practice. Today, over 000 installations with the Kirsten hollow jet-wave are in successful operation worldwide. The K5000 is still the only machine in the market, which successfully solders conventional throughhole components as well as SMD s with the fast flowing and extremly felxible single hollow jet- wave - economically, technically efficient and flexible. User friendly handling The solder pot/pump and the oil container are completely separated and can individually be pulled out on side slider rails, meaning easy access for maintenance even under hot condition. The wave height can be adjusted stepless up to its maximum of 5 mm (1,0 ). The set height is shown in 1 mm (0 MIL.) steps on the digital display. Economy and Ecology, all in one The machines of the new generation are all equipped with a power saving mode, which means that when the machine is not actually soldering, the power consumption is reduced to 10%-15% of the programmed values. Within 15 seconds, all elements are back into operation mode. In the pre-heater, the heating rods have been replaced by a very efficient and economic hot air circulation system. This new system is so efficient that optional top side pre-heating (e.g. for multilayer boards) are becoming obsolete.

7 PCB-Holders There are different ways to fix and run the PCB s through the two types of Kirsten soldering machines (shuttle type and throughput type IN-LINE) Throughput machines K5360D/ K5500D/ K7360D/ K7500D Length: standard max. 0 mm (17,3 ) special max. 600 mm (3,6 ) Width: according to machine widths (360 und 500 mm) (1, and 19,7 ) Spray fluxer The bristle tips of a rotating brush are wetted with flux. A program controlled solenoid pulls a sprayknife into the brushcircle and a jet of fine droplets is sprayed to the underside of the PCB. After operation the flux is pumped back into the flux container. Jet nozzle fluxer The flux is applied to the PCB by means of an oscilliating air pressure jet nozzle, travelling laterally to the direction of the PCB transport over the soldering machine. The nozzle is automatically centred when stopped. In operation, its movement is symmetric to the longitudinal axis of the PCB and determined by the width of the PCB. The rate of flow is precisely metered by an electronic dosing pump. The advantages, especially for NO-CLEAN fluxes: - Even, exactly reproducible application of desired amount of flux - For all fluxes, alcohol or water base - Flux is appllied directly from closed flux container to PCB - No change of density through evaporation Frames and Masks Fluxer

When soldering is started, the ventilator with the fixed heating starts. A mixture of pre-warmed circulated air and fresh air is directed through the suction channels (1) into the lower chambers (). This air is blown by the lateral blower (3) through the heating chamber ().Through the heating rods (5), the air is heated to the set temperature. The sensor PT100 (6) constantly measures the temperature and instantly controls and corrects any deviation. The special arrangement of the heat deflection sheets (7) ensures an even outlet of hot air on the whole surface of the pre-heater against the PCB (9). 9 The cover oil system During soldering and in stand-by mode the solder is permanently covered by a layer of a special solder oil and protected from oxidizing. The system works in circulation mode. When the solder wave is on, cold solder oil from container (1) is pumped (3) through the pre-heater and fed (5) underneath the wave in the solder pot. The pre-heater is heated by its connection to the solder pot and through heat exchange from the oil returning into the oil container. K-IN ERTWAVE TM The electromagnetic jet wave soldering pump with integrated nitrogen inertion. The patented K-IN ERTWAVE TM system has been developed jointly by Kirsten Soldering AG and Air Liquide. Additionally its available as a retrofit for the conversion of existing soldering installations. The system is recommended for the use of lead-free solders. The cold oil is heated to prevent a cooling down of the solder during the soldering process. On one hand the electromagnetic Kirsten wave soldering pump with its kinetic hollow jetwave ensures excellent soldering results, on the other hand the reliable inertion system from Air Liquide for soldering processes completely replaces the cover oil used so far as protection against oxidation with nitrogen. The separation wall prevents the oil sludge, caused by thermic degradation and impurities dragged into the solder pot with the PCB s from being re-pumped into the system. On the occasion of an oil change, the oil container be slid sideways out of the machine on rails and the oil drained via shut off valve. - Best soldering results - Particularly economical for short operation times The conversion of existing soldering installations to this new system can be realized without modifications. - Particularly suitable for multiple shift operations - Low maintenance - Further improvements in environmental friendliness Soldering bath cover - either oil or nitrogen (N) can be chosen
