Introduction The system uses the mains cables to communicate between the Controller and all the heaters. Do not spur the Controller electrical supply from the dwellings light circuit. (In some situations the house lighting can effect the mains borne signalling used by Credanet II) Do not install the Controller where there is an RCD device in between the Controller supply and the Maintained supply to the heaters. (RCDs can effect the mains borne signalling) The heating scheme for the house must be detailed in the planning sheet on Page 5 prior to setting up the Controller and Heaters. The number of zones that are used and the heaters in each zone is set into the Controller and Heaters during the Programming process (See Section 3 Page 6) Page 2

a) Zone : The Controller allows for a heating scheme to be divided into three separately controlled zones. ZONE 2 ZONE 3 A zone is a group of one or more rooms with one or more heaters. A Credanet II installation can have up to three zones. ZONE 1 b) Heater Number : Each zone can contain up to 15 heaters. (Numbered 1 to 9 then A to F). The heaters in each zone will follow the temperature program set at the Credanet II Controller. ZONE 2 ZONE ZONE c) House Address : This is a unique five figure number that is randomly created by the Controller when it is first powered up. (The house address can be changed to a specific value if required). This number is set into all the heaters in the house during the Programming process (See Section 3 Page 6) Example House Address d) Heater Type : The Credanet II system can be used with the following Credanet II heaters Panel Heaters Combi Storage Heaters Storage Fan Heaters (Direct Energy only). (Stored and Direct Energy) (Stored Energy extracted as needed by fan) Page 3

2. Filling out the Planning Sheet (See Page 5). Before the Controller and Heaters can be programmed, the Planning sheet on Page 5 must be completed. To do this, decide how the heaters want to be specified in the controller and then write this onto the Planning sheet. This information is then programmed into the controller. a) Key The controller needs to know the Code for each heater in the house, according to the table below. (This goes in the column labelled Type ). Heater Type Panel heater Auto Combi Storage Fan Part Number CNTxxP CNTxxC CNTxxF Controller Code PA AC C SF Notes Fan can be switched on by the controller and heater Boost button Fan can only be switched on using the heater Boost button Bedrooms : To prevent the fan possibly activating during the night use Code C rather than AC Note: The controller has an additional code PC : Please do not use this code (It is for future use). Each heater must be allocated a Zone and Heater number. (This goes in the column labelled Ref ). (For example 3:4 is Zone 3, Heater N 4). b) Example: An example scheme is shown below. In this example the house has a Storage fan in the lounge, an Auto combi in the dining room, an Auto combi in the kitchen and panel heaters in three bedrooms. Zone 1 Zone 2 Zone 3 Location Type Ref Location Type Ref Location Type Ref Heater 1 Lounge SF 1: 1 Dining Room AC 2: 1 Bedroom A PA 3: 1 Heater Kitchen AC 2: 2 Bedroom B PA 3: 2 Heater Bedroom C PA 3: 3 NOTE : When the Table on Page 5 is completed : For the benefit of the customer. Complete the Room Allocation Chart in the Customer Handbook Credanet II - User's Guide. Page 4

3. Programming the Controller and Heaters In this section the information on the Planning sheet is programmed into the Controller and Heaters. a) Before starting this section make sure: All the heaters are installed and wired to the electrical supply. (If a heater PCB has already been programmed it may need to be reset: See Section 8 Page 16) Note : For a Storage heater (Type SF or AC or C) to work correctly the off peak and maintained supplies MUST be connected to their correct terminal blocks AND left switched on at all times. The controller has not been previously programmed. (A controller that has already been programmed may need to be reset: See Section 7 Page 14) An un-programmed Controller will only show the time and day when powered up. A Controller that has already been programmed will also display up to three temperatures. The battery switch on the reverse of the Controller must be set to ON. The power MUST BE OFF to all heaters except Heater 1 in Zone 1. The Planning sheet on Page 5 is completed. Notes : During the initial power up a controller will display the following information : 1) A blank house address is shown as A new random address is created by the controller 2) The three zones are shown with no heaters programmed. The controller will show 0: 0: 0: 3) The controller then carries out a check on any heaters that have already been set into the controller. (No check is made on a controller that is blank 0: 0: 0: ). If the Controller is not empty as shown in 2) above it can be reset as detailed in Section 7 Page 14. If the screen remains blank at power up then it can be reset. Make sure that the setting up and programming of the system is complete (See section 3 Page 6) and that the power is on to all the heaters. Turn the power supply to the controller off and on again. During the power up the display on the controller will show the following information. Page 10

The house address is shown. (A new random address is created if the display is ). For example : This controller already has its house address set to The number of heaters allocated in each zone is then displayed. For example : This Controller has already been set with 3 heaters in Zone 1 (shown as 3:) 5 heaters in Zone 2 (shown as 5:) 4 heaters in Zone 3 (shown as 4:) The Controller then carries out a communication check with each heater in sequence. In this example : Zone 1 has been checked (and shows 18) Zone 2 heater 1 is being checked (shown as 5:1) (5 heaters in total) and Zone 3 has yet to be checked (and shows 16) For the check to be successful : The heaters must be powered up and Already programmed to the controller An individual heater communication check is successful if it takes less than 10s to complete. 6. Adding or replacing a heater. Replacing a Controller a) Adding a new heater : When the new heater has been added. Add the new details of Zone, heater Number and Type to the Planning sheet on Page 5. Put the Controller into Install Mode (See Page 7) and move the slider to the Zone containing the new heater. Switch on the power to the new heater and press the Boost button for 2 seconds. The controller will show the next available heater for that zone. Check that this number is correct according to the planning sheet. When the details on the screen are correct : Press the left hand Select button to send this information back to the new heater. (See Section 3 Page 6 for details on how to program the Controller and heaters). c) Replacing a heater in a Credanet I system: Heaters in a Credanet I system can be replaced with a new Credanet II type. (Credanet I uses DIP switches to commission the heating scheme) Notes : A Credanet II heater can only be programmed using a Credanet II Controller. After the new heater has been programmed, the existing Credanet I controller can be reinstalled. IMPORTANT Make a note of the Zone and Heater number of the Mk I heater being replaced. When the old heater has been replaced. Ensure the power supply is On to all the Mk I heaters and Off to the new Mk II heater. Temporarily replace the existing Credanet I controller with a Credanet II controller. On the controller: Enter the Install Mode (See Page 7) and move the selector to Prog. Run position. The house address stored in the controller will be displayed. This address is randomly generated by the Controller, e.g The House address (HA) on the Mk II controller MUST be changed so that it is the same as the one used by the existing Mk I heaters. The HA on the Mk II Controller is changed as follows: Press the left hand Select button to remove the house address from the screen. (Shown as ) (The random house address, e.g , is still retained by the Controller, but the value is removed from the screen) Page 12

Now go to one of the existing Mk I heaters. Make sure the power is on and press its Boost button for 2 seconds. The heaters house address will now appear on the screen of the controller. (e.g ). (The new controller has been forced to take the house address that already exists on the Mk I heater) Move the slider to the Zone containing the new heater Turn on the power to the new heater and press its boost button for 2 seconds Note : The randomly generated house address has been over-written by the address already stored in the heater. At the controller use the + and - buttons to change the screen details so that the Zone number, Heater number and Heater type is correct. (This MUST be the same as the old heater being replaced) When the screen details are correct, press the left hand Select button to send the information to the new heater. On completion, replace the temporary Credanet II controller with the existing Credanet I. If the Credanet II controller is being kept then it will need to be programmed with all the heater details. See section d) below. See Section 3. Page 6 for details of how to program Credanet II heaters. d) Replacing a Controller : A new Controller can be installed into an existing system and programmed with the information already set in the heaters. This method will also work when replacing an existing Mk I controller. When the new controller has been added. Power up the new Controller and all the heaters in the system. On the controller: Enter the Install Mode (See Page 7) and move the selector to Prog. Run position. The house address stored in the controller will be displayed. This address is randomly generated by the Controller, e.g For the new Controller to work correctly this address MUST be changed to the existing address stored on the heaters as follows : Press the left hand Select button to remove the house address from the screen. (Shown as ) (The random house address, e.g , is still retained by the Controller, but the value is removed from the screen) Page 13

Now go to one of the heaters. Make sure the power is on and press its Boost button for 2 seconds. The heaters house address will now appear on the screen of the controller. (e.g ). (The new controller has been forced to take the house address that already exists on the heater) Pressing the Boost button will also register that heaters details (Type/Zone/Number) onto the new controller. Note : The randomly generated house address has been over-written by the address already stored in the heater. Go to all the other heaters in the house and press their boost button. (This will register their heater details onto the new controller). The new Controller is commissioned when all the boost buttons have been pressed. Check that the new controller has registered all the heaters. (See Section 5 Page 10). Return the Controller to normal. (See Section 4 Page 9). 7. How to reset a Controller This process is in two parts. The first part removes all the allocated heaters from a Controller and leaves the house address unchanged. The second part removes all programmed details from the controller, including its house address, and returns it to its factory settings. a) To remove all the Heater details from a Controller (House address unchanged): Enter the install mode on the controller (See Page 7) Removing the heaters from Zone 3 1) Move the selector switch to the Zone 3 position. 2) The display will show the set up for Heater 1 in Zone 3 (Shown as 3: 1 on the screen). 3) If the display has the word Set on the screen then press the right hand Select button to unset.
