1. INTRODUCTION This following manual objectives give you general information that will allow you can evaluate and do interventions in whole product family. Specific information like values of electrical and mechanical specifications, diagrams must be consulted in the Technical Data, sent by specific markets product codes. To Spare Parts and Exploded Views, consult the Spare Parts List. Instructions of working and installation must be consulted in the customer manual (Users Guide). 2. PRESENTATION Their main characteristics are: Easy Ice system with automatic feeder, External Handle, Door Cooling system, Can Rack, Extra Drawer (fruits) & Skin Condenser (Clinched Condenser). 16- Shallow shelf 17- Egg bin 18- Multipurpose shelves 19- Bottles separator 20- Bottles shelf Attention: The anti-bacterial filter assures a higher level of hygiene in the refrigerator through continuous purifying the air of bacteria. Remove it from the box (found in the crisper drawer) and insert into the grille in the back wall of the refrigerator compartment (item 15). Replace the filter every 6 months. 3. CONCEPT & TECHNOLOGY 3.1. Electronic System This is a no frost refrigerator managed by an electronic system, assisted by some peripherical components, as follows: - Electronic control; - Interface board; - Temperature Sensor; - Compressor; - Fan Motor (V dc); - Heater; - Lamp. Basically, the temperature read inside the freezer by the temperature sensor is sent to the electronic control, which controls the working of the compressor, of the fan motor, and of the heater (each 8 hours of working of the compressor (or each 4 fours in the adaptive mode, as you will see following this manual). Variables: 1- Fast freezing 2- Easy ice system 3- Feeder 4- Ice trays 5- On the rocks 6- Extra cold compartment 7- Wind flow system 8- Refrigerator light 9- Sliding glass shelves 10- Humidity controls 11- Vegetables drawer 12- Lowe finishing plate 13- Casters and leveling feet 14- Freezer door shelves 15- Anti-bacterial filter a) The internal lamp is lighted when the door is opened. An electromechanical switch is connected in series between the lamp and the electronic control. b) The temperature inside the refrigerator compartment is controlled by an mechanical thermostatic damper, which controls the air flow from the freezer to the refrigerator compartment, therefore, the changed air from the refrigerator compartment rises till the temperature sensor located on the freezer. The factor which defines when will occurs a defrost procedure, is therefore, strongly linked to the quantity of the opening of doors, besides the quantity of food and external temperatures. 4

Air Flow System The pictures below show us how the forced air, circulates on the product, and returns to the evaporator, when suffers the cooling process again. Freezer Fan Motot 2 Evaporator Thermostatic Damper 3 The refrigerator air diffuser has a wind flow system, which provide a better air distribution over this compartment due to the many outlets/windows available. Protected by a front plastic cover, the air diffuser is made of styrofoam (expanded polyesthyrene - EPS). the upper part houses the damper and the diffuser complement, whereas the rear portion is provided with several seals to prevent air leaking through the sides 5

3.3. Functions Adaptive Defrost This refrigerator has an adaptive defrost system, which is adjustable according to client s habits, environmental conditions, etc. Monitored by the electronic control, this system is constituted of the following components: - Electronic control; - Defrost heater; - Defrost sensor temperature; - Defrost gutter; - Evaporation recipient (above the compressor). The accurate frequency is defined by the electronic control throughout the following monitoring: - Compressor activity time; - Door opening frequency; - Time of the last executed defrosts; Defrosts shall occur in every 8 hours (of the compressor activity), able to be reduced (adaptive) to every 4 hours (of the compressor activity) according to the usage (determined by the electronic control software). Defrost average time is from 10 to 20 min. And the maximum is 40 min., Afterwards, the product will return to its normal operation. Upon a period of 5 minutes elapsing after the end of the defrost cycle, the electronic control will turn the compressor on, and as the defrost sensor reaches a temperature 2ºc below the one set by the freezer sensor, the freezer fan motor will be also activated and the unit will return to normal operation. Summarily, the electronic control activates the defrost system, which will execute the following steps: - Fan motor and compressors are turned-off; - Heater is activated; - Defrost sensor informs the defrost ending when reach 15o c (or 40 minutes, maximum time); - Heater is turned-off; - Compressor is turned on after 5 minutes the heater is off; - Motor fan is turned on when the differential of temperature between defrost and freezer sensors reach 2o c; - Product returns to the programmed function before defrost. This defrost system has also a safety system which will put in action an immediate defrost in case of an existing differential temperature between defrost sensor and freezer sensor higher than 10 C for 10 minutes, helping contend against casual ice building up on the evaporator. When the product is with fast freezing mode enable, the defrost system will be fixed and not adaptive, and 2 defrosts will occur during this period, it means, the first will occur 3 hours after the compressor activity and the second just 9 hours after (compressor activity) the first defrost. Upon ending the activity of the fast freezing function (18 hours), the next defrost cycles will occur as adaptive normal cycles. 4. MAIN COMPONENTS 4.1. Cooling Circuit Compressor & Acessories Alternative hermetic and high efficient compressor, made by Embraco, to refrigerant R134a. Remark: The compressor just works again when we have 7 minutes since its last cycle. The relay and thermal protector are sold together the compressor, if necessary to change individually, consult the spare parts list. This compressor also has a capacitor (located on the electronic control box). Its function is help the compressor works efficient and not to execute startup. The filter dryer to R134a is a filter with higher quantity of drier element. You can use a filter to R134a in systems R12, but the inverse is not allowed. To other information, norms and procedures, consult specific manuals to hermetic system interventions Condenser This refrigerator has a new concept of built-in condenser, which is known as the clinched. Different of a traditional built in condenser (which are inside the cabinet and in contact with another metallic surface by others manufacturers), the clinched condenser changes temperature direct to the ambient, increases the yield, because its contact area is larger. As this condenser does not be changed, like a normal condenser, it is necessary clean it very well when occurs interventions on the hermetic systems. Use nitrogen pressure and/or the refrigerant gas (to severe contamination). 6

system. Its operation (on/off) is also commanded by the electronic control and its electrical features are: Power 275(W), value 194 to 227 ohms. The lower part of the defrost heater is fixed at the defrost gutter through claws in order to avoid ice building on this place. Always ensure the contact between these parts Defrost sensor Evaporator Frost Free Type Evaporator, with suction line injected in the cabinet. Only the Evaporator can be substituted. Due the internal configuration we strongly recommend do the interventions with the lokring connections. It s located at the freezer compartment, along with the evaporator returning pipe. The defrost sensor is responsible for sending signs to the electronic control, which will command the ending of the adaptive defrost, turning off the defrost heater, containing a similar function to the well-known defrost bimetal Thermofuse 1. Lokring connector 2. Defrost sensor 3. EPS - shim right 4. Thermofuse 5. Defrost shield 6. Deforst heater 7. EPS - shim left 8. Suction line 4.2. Damper Turned on in series connection with the heater defrost, the thermofuse protects the product and does not allow that defrost heater be turned on continuously in case of failure of the defrost sensor. In case of failures in the defrost system when the heater is continuously working, it will open at the range of 72 C to 77 C Fan Motor The Fan Motor is a VDC Motor and is fixed to the rear cover of the evaporator through a rubber flexible holder (freezer), that protects from occasional vibrations, and consequently noise. The refrigerator compartment has an independent temperature control, done by the thermostatic damper, which controls the cold air flow with 3 graduations: minimum, medium and maximum Defrost System Defrost Heater The Defrost Heater involves all the evaporator extension, presenting a better performance of the 7

Electronic Control The complete operation of this product is done by the electronic control, which executes the functions according to the necessities, turning the components on or off through received/managed signals. Inside its box, the electronic control is divided in 2 parts, a main board and a line filter. Main board CN1 Compressor and power coard CN2 Load components and lamps CN3 Temperature sensors CN4 Interface board Note: More details, check the wiring diagram Line filter 4.6. Interface Board The Interface board has the function of interacting with the user, indicating the product functions/programming and operation (see use characteristics item) always put in operation by the electronic control. electronic control. 5. TESTS Two automatic test routines are available in these refrigerators in order to prove the main components of the product: one executed automatically by the software of the electronic control, when the product is plugged on the power supply and other handled by the own technician, which are described as follows: 5.1. Initial Test Routine (factory routine) When the product is plugged on the power supply, an Initial tests routine (works automatically) starts as follows: Note: At this moment, an inner temperature check will occur in the evaporator, through the defrost sensor, and then the routine will start automatically. - Alarms shall be disable during the routine; - The board shall monitor the freezer compartment and defrost sensor conditions. If any sensor failure is detected the board shall externalize it in the second 310. At this moment the compressor and the fan are turned off; - If no sensor failure was presented, the compressor must be kept On, until the routine finishes; - The light bulbs control shall be enabled. If the initial temperature measured by defrost sensor is HOT (above 0ºC) the steps described at section A shall be followed, if the initial temperature measured by defrost sensor is COLD (below 0ºC) the steps described at section B shall be followed. Notes: If during a power on, the control detects that a defrost is engaged, the product shall abort the Loads self test after turning the defrost heater on during 6 seconds and fan motor during 6 seconds and finalize de defrost mode. The load self-test routine have priority over any interface command, which will only become valid after the load self-test time elapse. For example, if the user select the fast freezing operation, the selection will remain indicated on the interface, but will only start after the load self-test time elapse. This routine shall run whenever the appliance is powered On. If the compressor is On in the end of the routine it shall be kept in this condition while the freezer compartment thermostatic mode are being loaded. A - The sequence of the operations are presented below: 1. Turn on the defrost heater for 6 seconds; 2. Turn on the freezer compartment fan for 6 seconds; 8

3. If defrost is engaged abort the loads Self-test and return to the normal operation of the product; 4. Turn on the compressor and freezer compartment fan for 310 seconds (5,17 minutes); 5. At this moment check if there is any failure at any temperature sensor, if one or more sensor is faulty turn the compressor off till the end of the routine (next 20 seconds); 6. After the step (4) the control will follow the normal behavior. Wattage (W) Start DEFROST HEATER 6s FREEZER FAN 6s Control searches for a sensor failure (Compressor remains On) COMPRESSOR + FREEZER FAN 5min Sensor failure detection 20s If some sensor fails, compressor turns-off after 5min and 10s of compressor running End of the routine Time (sec) B - The sequence of the operations are presented below: 1. Turn on the defrost heater for 6 seconds; 2. Turn on the freezer compartment fan for 6 seconds; 3. Keep all loads turned off during the following 330 seconds (5,50 minutes); 4. After the step (3) the compressor shall remain turned off during time that lacks Service Test Routine This other routine must be carried out by the Technician whenever the product presents any failure. It will make possible the test of the following components: - Electronic Control; - Freezer Fan Motor; - Compressor; - Defrost heater; - Lamp. 1. Place an ammeter type clamp on one of the defrost heater wires (inside of electronic control); 2. With the closed doors, disconnect and connect the power plug from the wall electrical supply; 3. Open and close the both doors (refrigerator & freezer); 4. On the Interface board, press simultaneously the freezer (temperature selection) and fast freezing keys; 10s Notes: # At this moment all Leds should be turned off, otherwise the routine was not accepted; # The operations of items 1 to 4 must be done within 1minute for the self-test to be accepted; 5. Press the freezer key, and the fan motor will switch on; Note: # At this moment the maximum level freezer temperature Led will light up; # Leave the fan switched on for 4 minutes, so that the system s pressure equalizes and the compressor may be tested in the next step. 5. Press the freezer key again, and the fan motor will switch off; Note: # At this moment the maximum level freezer temperature Led will turn off; 6. Press the freezer key, and the compressor will turn on; Note: # At this moment the medium level freezer temperature Led will light up; 7. If the value is different unplug the product from the power supply and check the element s ohmic value according to the defrost Heater ohmic Table value. 9. Press the freezer key, and the heater will switch off; Note: # At this moment the minimum level freezer temperature led will turn off; 10. Press the freezer key once again and the refrigerator light will switch on; Note: # At this moment the fast freezing led will light up; 11. Press the freezer key, and the refrigerator light will switch off; Note: # At this moment the fast freezing led will turn off; 12. Press the freezer key again and all leds will light up with a long BIP together for some seconds; Note: # If it not occur, any electronic control failure during the test routine was detected. Check all interface components and proceed the routine once again, later check the electronic control. 13. Press the Alarm off key and the product will cancel its test routine and return to normal operation; 9

Attention: The maximum time allowed between each of the operations is 5 minutes. After this time the Self-Test will be automatically cancelled 5.3. Sensor Check the correct position of the freezer sensor on its housing; Its wires should run downwards to prevent them from being broken. Right Wrong The temperature value is measured close to the sensor and not at the center of the refrigerator or freezer compartment. When the product is for the first time connected to the electrical power supply, the interface panel will start with the factory pre-selected temperature; medium level. If the product is disconnected during its use, or lack of energy occurs, it will assume the last function/programming done by the user when reconnected. When this lack of power makes the freezer and defrost sensors temperatures upper than +20º c, the control will assume the pre-selected factory temperature. When necessary, do the check of temperatures / resistances of the sensor in its terminals on the control board. All operation range must be in accordance to the selection (temperature) done on the interface panel, and the software of the electronic control will convert as following: T. R. T. R. (± (± C) (± ) ( C) (ohm) ( C) (ohm) C) (± ) ,42 0,5-12, , ,27 0, , ,92 0,5-13, , ,00 0, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Alarm System If the product presents any irregularity (according the possibilities below), it will set off a sound ( BIP ) and visual (3 Leds freezing level, minimum, medium and maximum blinking), through the interface panel and a fault code will be stored in the memory of the interface board, getting the diagnosis easy. Before visiting a client requiring service, we must request that they press the alarm Off key for a few seconds and the failure code will appear automatically on the leds of freezer temperature control (Interface board). Attention: When one of these faults occur, the client must be instructed to turn off the sound alarm by pressing the Alarm Off key, however, THE 10

PRODUCT MUST NOT BE UNPLUGGED FROM THE WALL SOCKET. Cod Alarm Leds Codification Leds Presentation 01 Defrost sensor Off / On / Off 02 Freezer sensor On / Off / Off 03 Temperature alarm On / On / Off 04 Open door On / On / On Sensor (Freezer & Defrost) failure This alarm status is straightly connected to a short circuit or open sensor NTC from any of the temperature sensors (freezer or defrost sensors), in this situation the electronic control system will activate a sound alarm BEEP (to disable, press alarm off key) folowed by 3 temperatures leds (min./ Med./ Max) blinking. Pressing alarm off key for a seconds as described above the sound alarm will turn off and the correspondent code (code 1 for defrost sensor or code 2 for freezer sensor) can be showed. Remarks: When the sound alarm is disabled by alarm off key, the LEDs will remain blinking until the has been solved. If the product retrieves the normal operation at the first hour, a momentary reading fault may occur, but without necessity of intervention. When constant, there is the chance of a real sensor failure, being necessary to check its source. Check Point: - Poor contact between terminals/ connectors CN2 (temperature sensors) at electronic control (main board); - The sensor itself that might be open or in short circuit and has to be replaced (see sensor replacement). During constant alarm, the electronic control will assume a safety routine, as in normal cycle, trying to keep food conservation, however will work as follows: - Compressor and fan motors (refrigerator & freezer) will be on for 20 minutes and then will turn off for 15 minutes; - Interval set between defrosts will be fixed (not adaptive) in every 5 hours of the compressor activity; - Every defrost time will be fixed in 10 minutes. Note: This routine happens independent of which sensor has failed, and can be any of them (freezer & defrost) Temperature Alarm If the electronic control detects a high internal temperature (above -12 C), at the freezer compartment, it will activate a sound alarm BEEP folowed by 3 temperatures leds (min./ med./ max) blinking. Pressing alarm off key for a seconds as described above the sound alarm will turn off and the code 3 can be showed. Remarks: When the sound alarm is disabled by alarm off key, the LEDs will remain blinking until the has been solved. Note: To prevent wrong alarm, this alarm status is disabled on the following circumstances: - During the first 6 hours after the product is connected to the energy; - During defrost process; - During the first 2 hours after a defrost; - During the first 2 hours that one of the doors was open. If the product takes over the temperature reaching - 16 C, the alarm will be automatically disabled and the product will return to the normal operation. When constant, there is the chance of a real technical failure, check its source. Check Point: - If the freezer compartment was loaded with hot food, increasing the internal temperature of the compartment. Wait until the internal temperature has stabilized; - Poor contact between terminals/ connectors CN2 (temperature sensors) at electronic control and load components; compressor, fan motor, others. Do the self test routine; - Also check; ice blockage, leakage of refrigerant fluid, compressor s low pumping, etc Open door When any of the doors (freezer or refrigerator) remains open more than 2 minutes, the electronic control system will emit a sound alarm BEEP, indicating that it s open, warning the consumer. 11

To turn off the sound sign just close the door or press the turn off alarm key. After 6 minutes, if the door has not been closed yet, the electronic control will activate a open door alarme BEEP (that can also disable by pressing alarm off key) followed by the visual alarm (leds blinking) until colse the door. A safety routine will be activated, turning off the refrigerator lamps, putting in action the freezer fan motor and the compressor, even whether the doors are open, as it s working in normal cycle, trying to keep food conservation. In this case, code 4 can be identified on the interface board (see table above). Remarks: After this 6 minutes, when the open door sound alarm is disabled by alarm off key, and the door continues open, the LEDs will remain blinking until the door is closed. Check Point: - Interface board reed switches, must operate correctly; - The magnet on the doors (freezer and refrigerator) must be present and correctly positioned; - If the doors are adjusted and closing correctly; - Poor contact between terminals/ connectors CN3 (interface board) at electronic control and interface board; - Interrupted/ damaged wires Technical Troubleshooting Complaint Check Solution If the power cable is Connect it connected.
