5 Install the extension pipe The extension pipe requires a 1/2 male nipple, extending 5/8 outside the finished ceiling surface. Wrap the threads on the ceiling nipple with Teflon tape. Seal the ceiling around the nipple with waterproof sealant. Failure to seal the ceiling can lead to possible water damage. Position the escutcheon (if desired) over the nipple. Carefully screw the extension pipe onto the nipple. Install the shower arm The wall mount shower arm requires a 1/2 male nipple, extending 5/8 from the surface of the finished wall. Seal the wall around the nipple with waterproof sealant. Failure to seal the wall can lead to possible water damage. Wrap the threads on the nipple with Teflon tape. Screw the showerarm onto the nipple. Push the escutcheon against the wall 3 P: F: Page 5 of 35

6 Install the shower head Screw the showerhead to the shower arm. Tighten the safety screw with a 2 mm Allen wrench. Failure to tighten the screw can result in injury or product damage Turn on the water and check the connection for leaks. 4 P: F: Page 6 of 35

7 Scale Removal The Raindance showerheads incorporate the Quick Clean cleaning system. If scale deposits are noticed in the spray channels, turn the water on lightly and rub the spray channels with a finger or a sponge. If scale deposits are noticed on the spray face, pour about 3/4 of a commercial scale remover, such as Lime-Away or CLR, into a shallow dish. Dilute the remover according to the label instructions. Soak only the spray face in the solution for the amount of time specified on the label. Rinse the showerhead with clear water. Reinstall the showerhead. Turn on the water and allow the showerhead to flush for at least one minute. 5 P: F: Page 7 of 35

The bodyshower should only be used in combination with a thermostatic mixer (including non return valves) and with a separate shut off valve. The shut-off function of the bodyshower is only for short- term use while showering and does not replace a separate shut off valve. 1 WATER Cleaning Recommendation for Hansgrohe Products Modern faucetry and shower products utilize a combination of materials to comply with the needs of the market with regard to design and functionality. To avoid damage, it is necessary to use some caution when cleaning. Damage caused by improper treatment is not covered under the Hansgrohe warranty. 2 Cleaning Materials for Faucets and Showers To remove lime scale, use only products made specifically for that purpose. Always follow the manufacturer s instructions when using. Do not use cleaners that contain hydrochloric, formic, acetic, or phosphoric acids, as these will cause considerable damage to finishes and to plastic components. Never mix cleaning materials. Never use cleaners containing abrasives. Do not use abrasive cleaning cloths, pads, or sponges. Cleaning Procedures Clean your faucets and shower products as and when required. Regular cleaning will prevent scale buildup and water spotting. Follow the label instructions. Do not allow any cleaner to remain on the product for longer than necessary. When using spray cleaners, spray first onto a sponge or cloth do not spray directly onto the product. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with clear water to remove any cleaner residue. Important Soap and shampoo residue can also cause damage to the product. Rinse well with clean water after use. The thermoelement, which incorporates the thermostat cartridge, check valves, and service stops is included with the trim kit to prevent loss or damage at the jobsite. Flow 44 psi with Ecostat Universal trim 13.2 gpm with EcoMax trim 20 gpm * Follow all applicable local plumbing codes when setting the temperature on the water heater. 11 Installation Considerations For best results, this unit should be installed by a licensed professional plumber. Large differences in pressure between the hot and cold supplies must be balanced or the valve will not work properly. The Ecostat TM thermostatic mixer controls water temperature only. It does not control or direct the flow of water. If the installation is performed in freezing weather, or where freezing conditions may occur prior to building completion, drain all water from the plumbing system to prevent freeze damage to the Ecostat TM rough and/or the piping system. Do not solder the supply or outlet pipes directly to this rough valve. Do not use a diverter tub spout with the Ecostat TM. Know and follow all applicable local plumbing codes when installing and pressure testing this valve. The thermoelement (included with the trim kit) incorporates a high temperature limit stop which may be reset to comply with local codes. Shower System Layout The Ecostat TM thermostatic mixer controls the water temperature only. It does not have an off position. Volume control must be installed for each outlet. The following items may be used: Volume control valves (1/2 ) and (3/4 ) Fixfit stop wall outlet (various styles) -- volume control and wall outlet for handshower Trio stop diverter provides volume control and diverter for two functions. The Quattro diverter ( ) does not have an off position. A volume control valve must be installed between the Ecostat and the Quattro. Pipe all shower functions from the top outlet port. The bottom outlet port should be used for a tub filler only. If shower functions are piped from both outlet ports, then run simultaneously, an unacceptable temperature difference will result. DO NOT use a diverter tub spout with the Ecostat TM. If a tub/shower is desired, pipe a volume control and a tub spout from the bottom outlet port, or pipe the tub spout from one of the outlet ports on a Trio Stop Diverter, or a Quattro diverter. Allow sufficient space between the valves for the trim plates. The positions of the valves can be adjusted for the tile pattern. 3 P: F: Page 11 of 35

Installation For proper operation of the Ecostat TM valve, the hot supply should be plumbed into the hot outlet port, and the cold supply should be plumbed into the cold outlet port. The hot and cold inlet ports are marked three ways -- red and blue dye on the brass, hot and cold stamped on the installation box, and hot and cold printed on the wall depth sticker on the plaster shield portion of the installation box. The inlet and outlet ports are threaded for male NPT fittiings. Do not sweat directly to the rough. Sweat the pipes to adapters. 5 P: F: Page 13 of 35

14 If only the top outlet port is to be used, seal the bottom outlet port with a plug (not included). To insure proper fit of the trim, the outside surface of the finished wall must fall between the MIN and MAX markings on the wall depth sticker. Secure the valve as necessary. If desired, and if space permits, the i-box may be used as a screwin flange. Once the volume controls are installed, it is safe to pressurize the system. The plastic flush unit is ported so that crossflow cannot occur. Do not remove the plastic i-box. Do not remove the flush unit until the trim is to be installed. 6 P: F: Page 14 of 35

15 Flush and Pressure Test the System with the Flush unit The hot and cold supplies must be flushed prior to installation of the thermoelement. Damage to the thermoelement caused by debris is not covered under the Hansgrohe warranty. The flush unit is ported so that the cold supply flushes through the outlet port(s). The hot supply flushes through the port in the front of the flush unit occuplied by a white plastic plug. Prior to pressurizing the system, remove the white plastic plug from the front of the flush unit. Install hose bibbs (not included) to the opening in the flush unit and to the outlet(s). Install hoses. Position the hoses so that, when the system is pressurized, the water will cause no damage. Pressurize the system. Allow the supplies to flush for at least 5 minutes. Depressurize the system. Remove the hose bibbs. Reinstall the plastic plug in the flush unit. Plug the outlet(s). Pressurize the system. Check all connections for leaks. Finish the wall The wall should be finished up to the plaster shield portion of the i-box, as shown. The plaster shield will be cut off so that it exends 1/16 outside the finished wall when the trim kit is installed. Do not remove the flush unit until directed to by the trim kit installation instructions. 7 P: F: Page 15 of 35

Prior to the installation of this trim kit, rough valve or must be installed. The finished wall must be complete. The water must be turned off at the main before beginning installation. 19 These trim kits are compatible with the new style rough, manufactured after 10/2003. Note the more rectangular opening. These trim kit are not compatible with the older-style rough, manufactured before 10/2003. 21 Installation Turn the water off at the main before beginning. Remove the flush insert and o-rings. Save the screws! Cut the i-box so that it extends 1/16 outside the finished wall. Seal the wall around the i-box with waterproof sealant. Failure to seal the wall can lead to possible water damage. Install the new o-rings. Install the function block, using the reserved screws. Turn on the water and check for leaks. Install the trim carrier plate and screws. P: F: Page 21 of 35 5

22 Install the trim sleeve with the indexing mark at the 12:00 position. Push the escutcheon firmly over the carrier plate. Install the handle adapter with the screw. Install and justify the handle. Massaud only: Install the two pieces of the sleeve -- the safety set and the cover. Orient the safety set as shown. Install the escutcheon. Install the handle adapter and screw. Install and justify the handle. Justify the handle Tools required: small slot-head screwdriver, thermometer Remove the handle. Place a thermometer in the water stream. Turn the stem until the water is 100º F. Reinstall the handle so that the safety stop override button is at the 12:00 position. Tighten the screw. 6 P: F: Page 22 of 35

23 Set the High Temperature Limit Stop (optional) IMPORTANT: Many municipalities have codes limiting the maximum discharge temperature of a shower valve to 110º F or less. Please know and follow all applicable local codes when setting the high temperature limit stop. In Massachusetts, the maximum output temperature is 112º F. Tools Required: thermometer, small slot-head screwdriver Turn the water on. Loosen the set screw on the bottom of the handle. Remove the handle. Remove the clip and stop ring from the stem. Turn the stem until the water is the desired maximum high temperature 110º in most areas. Install the stop ring so that it is against the stop. Install the clip. Justify and install the handle. User Instructions Turn the handle clockwise to make the water cooler, counter-clockwise to make it warmer. The handle will stop at the100º safety stop. To obtain water hotter than 100º, push the safety stop override button and continue turning the handle counter-clockwise. The isolation stops Close the stop by turning it clockwise with an 8 mm Allen wrench. Both stops must be closed! 24 Upgrade Kit 06800XX3 Installation Considerations The upgrade kit contains an EcoMax function block, trim sleeve, and screws. It is used to upgrade an existing Ecostat installation. Installation Turn the water off at the main before proceeding. Do not use the stops on the function block. Remove the existing trim. Remove the Ecostat function block and o-rings. Install the EcoMax function block and o-rings. Turn on the water to the valve and check for leaks. Install the EcoMax sleeve. Reinstall the trim. Justify the handle. 8 P: F: Page 24 of 35

29 Installation Considerations Volume control valves are plumbed from the outlet port(s) of the thermostatic mixing valve. One volume control valve is needed for each outlet, unless a Quattro diverter valve is used. If a Quattro diverter is used, the volume control valve is installed between the thermostatic mixer and the diverter. The volume control valve rough-in does not include trim. 30 Install the valve so that the surface of the finished wall falls between the minimum and maximum lines marked on the plaster guard.
