3 The system is very powerful. The twin salon air handlers are able to keep the boat cool with the hatch open and the fan on medium speed. The smaller cabins can be cooled quickly and the low fan speeds make it very quiet for the guests. M ee t i n g Expectations The system has run almost continuously since we launched the boat in England. In this time I ve had no problems or issues in heat and cooling modes and am thrilled by the reliability. From the main control panel I can reduce the kw output when we are on shore power and the guest cabins are empty. This is a great feature as I can ensure I have enough power for the battery chargers, water heaters, outlets, and air con, etc. After sailing I can increase the load to rapidly cool the boat and guest cabins. It is perfect for the owners. The system has run almost continuously since we launched the boat in England. In this time I ve had no problems or issues in heat and cooling modes and am thrilled by the reliability. When my sea chests were blocked by seaweed in St Barts the aircon was the first system to raise an alarm. The user interface is excellent for general use and fault finding. Finally, I have to comment on the the support from you and the team. It has been excellent, amazing really. Only one other supplier from the whole boat offers the same level and commitment. The ability to remotely login to the system with team viewer for diagnostic check ups is very re-assuring. You have always responded quickly to any questions and have made yourself available at short notice, on weekends, and even on your holidays! So thank-you. Overall the system is quiet, powerful, and runs 24/7 with no problems. We have kept cool during the challenge of launching and commissioning this new Wally Cento and it is all thanks to you and your team at Termodinamica. Given the significant weight savings, the powerful and reliable system performance, and the enthusiasm in which you approached this challenging custom project I could not hesitate to recommend your system. 4 Description of Boat 2007 Beneteau 57 Hull number 141, Flag Blue hull with teak decking.230v/50hz electrical system. Purchased new in France and sailed in Mediterranean, Caribbean and Florida for a total of 33,000 nautical miles. Original Air Conditioning Five CruisAir self contained units per the Mediterranean package. Issues with original air conditioning Salon unit (12,000 btu rating) could not reduce room temperature below 850F during typical Florida or Caribbean day/night thereby requiring the compressor to run continuously. Master cabin air temperature could only be reduced below 850F at night if the unit was operated continuously for 24 hours, not practical while at anchor to run the generator for 24 hours. All units were loud since the compressors were located in each cabin or salon. Electrical demand was very high at startup and continued high since the salon and master operated at maximum demand. Electrical demand could exceed 30 Amp shorepower capacity if water heating or battery charging were required. System required two seawater seacocks plus five above the waterline seawater discharges. Three units were experiencing an issue where the compressor would intermittently attempt to start when the unit was on standby mode. Three different technicians in Malta, Italy and Spain could not identify the cause. Condensate trays were rusting badly. Solution Replace individual units with an adequately sized centralized system that would distribute tempered water or refrigerant to air handlers located in each cabin/salon. Systems reviewed Several tempered water systems were reviewed but all were too large to install, circulating tempered water would require larger piping than could not be easily passed between cabins and the electrical demand remained high. Termodinamica system Installation A central compressor and heat exchanger could be installed in the salon under the settee thereby eliminating compressors from the cabins. Only one efficient seawater pump was needed versus two. One below water seacock was eliminated and four above the water line seacocks were eliminated. Air handlers fit into the existing space of the CruisAir units without modifications. Existing duct work could be retained. Smaller diameter piping is used to circulate the refrigerant versus larger tempered water piping. Air handlers operate on 24 volt instead of 230 volt making wiring easy and safely. Existing 230 volt power supply could be used and the system can operate with either 50 or 60 Hz supply. Operation after 10 months Electrical demand was significantly reduced due to the greater efficiency of the system. Maximum power consumption is limited to 2.0kw versus the 6,0kw of the former system. When all cabins are at set point an average of 500watt is enough to keep the boat cool without spikes when individual compressors started. Really outstanding for me when compared to other systems. Main salon (which is also open to the galley) was cooled below 850F quickly and reached the set point of 750F during hot and sunny days in Fort Lauderdale. Master cabin could reach its set point of 750F in less than 20 minutes. Noise level in all cabins is substantially reduced making sleeping at night more comfortable. Touch screens and software can be modified to suit the individual needs. It also provides extensive error tracing and diagrammatic displays to monitor the entire system. Updates to the software can be loaded remotely using a laptop and internet access. Construction of the seawater heat exchanger using titanium tubes and stainless steel for the air handlers greatly improves reliability. Bruce Jones Conclusion The system provides greater cooling (and heating) at reduced electrical cost, lower noise levels, less redundant parts, higher grade software and fewer hull penetrations. Higher grade material like titanium and stainless steel make me feel more confident about reliability. It efficiency also means that lower humidity levels are obtained faster, reducing potential for mold or mildew. My feelings about Termodinamica system is that it represent a clear break with the past and all the old technologies. Yacht owners deserve smart system like this, able to improve life and comfort on board and with reduced impact to the environment through energy minimization.

5 The Results I m very happy about the results. The old system has nothing to compare with the new one. Comfort, efficiency, weight savings are set to a new standard. Dear Maurizio, as you already know, refit Chrisco was a big challenge for all of us. The air con was a big problem since when the boat was delivered and the owner was never happy about the cooling effect and capacity. Condaria Dometic refitted the boat 2 times in 5 years but result was anytime the same. Our biggest challenge is the main salon with 30 m2 of black glass exposed to the sun. I appreciated a lot your careful design criteria about new air ducting in the salon to improve air circulation. You realy know your job and how to fix issues. For the first time it makes me feel confident. The best of the best is the cooling capacity of Termodinamica technology that provides up to 3 C in air output from air handlers! 27 C in and 3 C out, impressive! That s amazing how this system can cool fast the hot salon! Before the salon never went down below C now it still at 22 C with the hatch open, really great result. In the other cabins where the sun exposure is limited i can appreciate the silence of the air handlers and it is very clear to me work of the new humidity control system that makes the environment more dry. Very important for us is also the capacity on demand for every air handler. Before with chilled water i was in the needs to push down the temperature of the loop to chill the salon but at the same time we freeze the guest and crew cabins. Now everything is at the proper temperature according to thermostat settings. Very important the new efficiency of the system, maximum power request 4kw but i never saw this on the display. Here in palma under the sun in july with 33 C outside i have the salon at 22 C and display says 1,5kw power comsuption! Before i had 3 chillers of 5kw each and they run all the day, one during night still on and 1 on/off. So an average of 10 times less! Thank you for this. The weight savings achieved with new compressor box is very important too because the old system was kg and your new compressor box is 90kg only! It helps me to sail faster. I like very much the touch screen interface in my office from where i can control all the boat. I got the sea water strainer fouled 2 times during the season and it was very fast troubleshoot the system, it tells you directly what to do! Very easy and reassuring. Very helpful also the function that you can connect to AC directly via internet and control the system. For worldwide sailors like us it is a must have. I m very happy about the results. The old system has nothing to compare with the new one. Comfort, efficiency, weight savings are set to a new standard. We had an intense research to find the right AC system for us and i m very happy that several friends suggested to me Termodinamica. 6 It was a pleasure working again with you and your team for the 3rd year in a row. I already know that you care until the last detail on the job but after 2 months of continuos operation I really like to spend some words on your aircon and technology. It s been 19 years that I work in the marine field and it s really the first time that I can see something really advanced in the aircon market. We are a professional charter company and cost management and reliability is in pole position anytime. I saw your guys take out from engine room more than 1000 kg of equipment with 2 compressors that seems taked from a plane. You put inside a superlight system with only 200kgs of weight and 2 smaller compressors that scared me that was not big enough. I m excited about the use of titanium because in the past years at least 1 time/ year and sometimes 2 times/year we need to descaling, specially in carribean area. Me and the chief engineer like very much the touch screen interface that allows to control everything from the shore power level to the working temperature. 3 weeks ago one genset had problems with frequency converter, your aircon was the first system to detect the problem and gave an alarm. Thank you very much for that, without you we would arrive to the stop of one genset with customers on board. Very helpful the troubleshooting area that in a very simple way explain you what is ok and what not in the system. Now the engineers are able to sleep overnight detecting issues first. The best point is when we switched on for the first time system during commissioning in Livorno, I really don t believe when I saw the data on the touch screen that show me the loop temperature falling down from 30 C to 7 C in less than 20 minutes on a 55 meters! Never seen something like that, and you aircon use a maximum power source of 30kw against 90kw of the old one! Really, i m very surprised from this level of efficiency. We scheduled a fuel consumption for genset according to the last year, but we verified that it is totally wrong because the source for AC is very limited compared to the past year. Engineers told me that in the south of France in the end of june at 2pm the power for AC was only 10kw, generators run almoust without load. Sure we are saving more than 50% of diesel cost compared to the past year. Company received special thanks from a US customer that is very focused to on board comfort and specially to the aircon. He was very happy to find desired temperature on board with good dehumidification considering the very high humidity of the period. A special thanks also to your technical team that was very professional, kind with all the crew and always ontime according to schedule. Very hard workers specially to face some complications related to pipe penetrations. Well done Maurizio and thanks again, see you on the next project!
