6 How Does It Work? The main purpose of is to meet the needs of the incubators while providing the right conditions for egg storage and processing. Within a modern hatchery there are a number of options that are available when it comes to ventilation: AHU's (Air Handling Units) - Typically with a 100% fresh air intake and with cooling and heating to maintain all year round, consistent conditions. Cooling is usually achieved by running chilled water through a cooling coil. Heating is provided by either a hot water, electric or gas coil. These units can be either mounted internally or externally. Package Units/RTU's (Rooftop Units) - Typically recirculate some of the supply air from within the hatchery back into the incoming air supply. Units have on-board refrigeration to provide cooling. Heating is provided by hot water, electricity or gas.these units can only be mounted externally. Both systems can be designed to provide de-humidification by over-cooling the air to condense and remove the moisture. When it comes to meeting the ventilation needs of single-stage incubators, new technology has allowed us to develop Variable Volume Control. This is where the amount of air is varied (based on the needs of the incubators) by altering the output of the AHU/RTU against the demand of the incubator. 7 How Does It Work? This is typically done by measuring room pressure and adjusting the output of the unit to maintain a constant pressure. So, when the air intake damper opens on a single-stage incubator, the room pressure drops and the system adjusts dynamically. This principle of Variable Volume Control offers significant energy savings to our customers as no extra air is conditioned and wasted as in traditional fixed volume ventilation systems. As well as meeting these ventilation needs, we also need to meet the cooling and heating requirements of our incubators. This is done by providing chilled water for cooling and hot water for heating. Currently there are many off the shelf suppliers of Air Cooled Chillers. For a modern day hatchery there are two choices available: either Screw Chillers or Scroll Chillers. Screw Chillers offer the best energy efficiency while Scroll Chillers are more cost effective although having some level of redundancy. If Jamesway Hot Water Heating option on our incubators is chosen and the weekly egg set is over 300,000 there is an option to use a dedicated heat recovery chiller where free hot water is produced as part of the chilled water cooling cycle offering a ROI of between two to three years. 8 A FOCUS ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY Jamesway is known the world over for energy efficient incubator and hatchery designs. This same design philosophy carries forward to our ventilation system. Even our most basic systems are energy efficient. We control air pressure by putting the right amount of air into the room to begin with, which saves energy by avoiding conditioned air that is then merely exhausted.

9 ENERGY SAVING Our systems are also capable of giving you free hot water by recovering the embryonic heat produced at the exothermic end of the incubation cycle to heat the eggs at the beginning of the cycle and to provide hot water for washing. 11 Why HVAC is The Most Important Investment You Can Make for Your Machines The performance of incubators is dependent on the system that services it. Consider it the fuel of the machine. Hatchery ventilation and incubator cooling systems are not always well designed. Often they are not even installed by hatchery experts. Incorrect HVAC design is visible at both extremes, from under-sizing to oversizing - either a waste of money or inadequate supply. using the correct data about temperature and humidity assures consistent quality hatch and best value for the investment. Cooling pipe-work systems need to be properly sized for current and planned expansions Critical to incubator performance. Humidification/dehumidification is often not fully understood or considered to ensure consistent hatch performance over changing climatic conditions. And as for Geographic Location... Our HRS allows for the recovery of heat, which is captured in the chiller, to heat other existing incubators and hatchers within your hatchery. This system can essentially provide your hatchery with FREE hot water, to heat incubators and hatchers, as well as providing domestic hot water for cleaning throughout your hatchery. Why offer a chiller with heat recovery capabilities? Typically, the chiller will loose heat to the outside, wasting a valuable, re-usable resource resulting in unnecessary costs.
