This approach allows the intensity of heat to be adjusted by means of a simple wall-mounted switch enhancing comfort and improving economy. Each system must incorporate one primary control box and a wall-mounted switch (either CS-2 or CS-3 depending on the heaters being controlled). St Giles Church - Medbourne 17 x 3kW Halogen Heaters Direct heating was provided by 17 halogen heaters mounted at 3m above floor level. Because halogen heaters are instantly effective, virtually no pre-heating is required and heating costs have been kept to an absolute minimum. 84 CASE STUDIES - Continued McLaren Workshop West Sussex 3 x Industrial Fan Heaters 2 x Destratification Units This is a large workshop housing a spectacular array of McLaren sports cars. Three industrial fan heaters were installed to maintain a comfortable working temperature for the mechanics during working hours and a background heat to protect the valuable vehicles at other times. A provision was also made for the heaters fans to be switched on in summer months for additional air circulation. CASE STUDIES Two destratification units were installed to enhance economy. These devices are suspended from the roof and recirculate warm air that would otherwise accumulate at high level. It is estimated that the use of destratification units reduces heating bills by approximately 30%. Joules Distribution Centre - Corby 53 x 1.5kW halogen Heaters (Magic Lamp) This distribution centre is far too large to consider installing a conventional heating system. However, there was a requirement to provide instant, direct heat to 53 individual packing stations. BN Thermic surveyed the site and recommended 1.5kW halogen heaters using the latest Magic Lamp technology. 85 Waterloo Station - London 23 x All Black Radiant Heaters The new restaurant and bar facility at Waterloo Station is very stylish and the heaters installed above tables and counters had to match the décor. The sleek modern lines of our all black radiant heaters fitted the bill perfectly. CASE STUDIES Village Hall - Farnham 4 x 2.4kW Radiant Cassettes Radiant cassettes are generally our preferred method of heating village halls and community halls. Their high mounting position allows free use of wall and floor space whilst their noise and draught free operation ensures that the heaters will not interfere with activities such as meetings and coffee mornings. Farnham Village Hall has a fairly low ceiling, allowing the cassettes to be ceiling mounted. In halls with higher ceilings, cassettes are often suspended. For optimum comfort and economy, the correct selection and positioning of radiant cassettes is critical. As was the case at Farnham, a BN Thermic engineer is always available to carry out a free of charge and no obligation survey. Top Golf - Watford 86 x 2kW Black Patio Heaters Top Golf is a terrific facility combining a golf driving range and a lively bar and restaurant. As the golfers wait for their turn to have a few swings, they sit at a high table enjoying waitress service from the bar. Our job was to provide comfort heating that would be effective even on the chilliest of evening. This was achieved by mounting a 2kW patio heater either side of each table. 86 CASE STUDIES - Continued Bourne House (Serviced and Managed Offices) - Whyteleafe 4 x 1.5kW Silver Patio Heaters 30m² Snow and Ice Meting Cable CASE STUDIES Bourne House recently underwent a major renovation, with work carried out to the very highest standard. Our part in this renovation was to provide heating for an outdoor meeting and smoking area. We specified and supplied heating cable to be installed under the paving slabs. The cable is automatically switched on when there is a risk of snow or ice accumulation thus ensuring safe underfoot conditions. BN Thermic patio heaters were also installed. These stylish silver heaters match the décor of the area perfectly and provide instant, direct heat. The heaters are controlled by movement sensors which keep running costs to a minimum. Spencer Squash Club - Wandsworth 4 x 3.6kW Radiant Cassettes This is a friendly and well-run squash club in South London. The club management contacted us to discuss an economic means of heating their two courts which would not interfere with squash matches or other activities such as mother and toddler groups. We recommended our radiant cassettes. These heaters are mounted at high level and operate silently. They do not produce light output or draughts and are easy to control with a programmable thermostat. School of Dance Croxley 4 x 4.5kW Halogen Heaters 1 x Control Panel Because this relatively large rehearsal space is only used intermittently, conventional space heating was considered to be uneconomic. As an alternative, the school directors were looking for a system that would be instantly effective thus eliminating the need for preheating. The solution was to suspend a grid of four halogen heater from the ceiling. 87 Wagner Hall Theatre - Brighton 9 x 3kW Radiant Cassettes A theatre requires a heating system that is fast acting but does not in any way interfere with performances. This means that heaters producing noise or light are specifically excluded. At Wagner Hall, we deigned a scheme using a grid of six radiant cassettes mounted onto cross beams at high level, augmented by a run of three heaters mounted onto the rear wall using angle-adjustable brackets. Derby Country FC 60 x 3kW Halogen Heaters 10 x Control Panels The management at Derby County were aware that sales from their concourse concessions were suffering because the areas were too cold during the winter months. The concourses are open to the pitch and to the outside world meaning that conventional space heating was impractical. The solution was to provide a grid of halogen heaters at high level, providing instant, direct heat to the Pride Park faithful. A control system was also devised which allowed the stadium manager to adjust heating levels. CASE STUDIES All Saints Church - East Huntspill 45 x Pew Heaters All Saints is a lovely little Somerset parish church. After a site visit, BN Thermic designed a heating scheme using a total of 45 pew heaters. The heaters sit snuggly under the pew seats and with their dark brown paint finish are virtually invisible.
