2011 Storm Drain Stenciling Project On July 27, 2011, a group of local 4 H students and their advisors participated in the annual Whitfield County Storm Stenciling Project.

1 2011 Storm Drain Stenciling Project On July 27, 2011, a group of local 4 H students and their advisors participated in the annual Whitfield County Storm Stenciling Project. The storm drain stenciling/marking project is an annual outreach to improve stormwater awareness in the community. The group had a total of 11 students and 3 advisors who took part this year. The subject area was along a cooridor of S. Dixie Hwy (South of West Ezzard Ave and North of Luke Dr) just south of the City of Dalton city limits. Approximately 50 drains were marked as shown on Fig 1 below. Also volunteers placed, Be a part of the solution to stormwater pollution handbills/door hangers on mailboxes adjacent to all storm drains that were marked. The more the average citizen knows about stormwater and pollution the less likely that citizen will intentionally pollute stormwater. Marker reads, Don t pollute flows to waterways. 3 2010 Storm Drain Stenciling Project Part 2 4/6/2011 Whitfield County, GA a total of 12 volunteers split in two groups from the Whitfield County 4- H Club picked up where they left off in December of The weather started to interfere with the marking back in December so the remainder of the markings was rescheduled and completed on April 6, The storm drains along Dug Gap Rd were marked along with storm drains in a residential neighborhood off of Dug Gap Rd between Marion Dr and Buckingham Way. For some of the new 4 H volunteers a brief educational presentation about stormwater was presented to the group by Chris Hester with Erosion / Stormwater Inspections prior to marking storm drain inlets. Approximately 40 drains were marked to complete the 2010 marking. Also volunteers placed, Be a part of the solution to stormwater pollution handbills/door hangers on mailboxes adjacent to all storm drains that were marked. 6 2010 Storm Drain Stenciling Project 12/9/2010 Whitfield County, GA - Eight volunteers from the Whitfield County 4- H Club marked storm drains in the Brookside Subdivision and along Dug Gap Rd in Whitfield County. A brief educational presentation about stormwater was presented to the group by Chris Hester with Whitfield County Engineering Department prior to marking storm drain inlets. Approximately 10 drains were marked and a second outing had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather. The remaining 40 markers are scheduled to be placed in early February 2011 at the time of the report. The map at left indicates the storm structures labeled. 2 markers were placed along Dug Gap Rd. 8 markers placed Brookside Sub Also volunteers placed, Be a part of the solution to stormwater pollution handbills/door hangers were placed on mailboxes adjacent to all storm drains that were marked.
