2 EVANSVILLE ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY BOARD OF DIRECTORS Dear Zoo Supporter, Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden is a beloved and important element in our community. We are seeing spectacular growth and transformation in the Zoo s 90 year history. The Zoo s modern habitats take into account every aspect of an animal s health and well-being, and allow guests to connect to the natural world through education, science, conservation and fun. Guided by the 2012 feasibility plan, Penguins of Patagonia is a private-public partnership, with the City of Evansville already committing approximately one-half of the project s $6.1 million cost. You can help by joining this campaign to bring the innovative Penguins of Patagonia to Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden, and together we will: COLOR: Black/Grey & White Design a naturalistic environment for Humboldt penguins with distinctive habitat features to promote a range of penguin behaviors. Expand and enliven the Zoo s Entry Plaza and South American exhibits, providing an up-close and engaging animal experience for an estimated 240,000 guests annually. Encourage meaningful personal connections with our natural world for people to cultivate stewardship of all ages and preservation of our Earth s diverse species and living systems. The immersive landscape will transport guests to the rocky coastline of Chiloé Island, located in the Patagonia region off the coast of Chile. Chiloé has a humid, cool temperate climate, the western side of the island is rainy and wild, and is home to the Valdivian temperate rain forests. Patagonia is located at the southern end of South America, shared by Argentina and Chile. The region is home to the southern section of the Andes mountain range with fantastic mountain peaks, vast and empty steppes, glaciers and icefields, deserts, pampas and grasslands.
