1 London Borough of Havering Squirrels Heath Ward Team Tel: Web:- News from your local police Sept 2016 Burglaries on the ward for August year old male given 4 years for Heath Park Road burglary On Tuesday 23rd February 2016 a burglary occurred on Heath Park Road RM2. Suspect/s had gained entry via the rear patio door, which had been completely smashed. Barking & Dagenham Police officers were alerted to the victim s vehicle via a number plate reading activation and the vehicle was found on Rainham Road South. Enquiries were made at the scene which led to the arrest of two males. One of the males was released without charge whilst a 37 year old Havering resident was charged with burglary and sentenced to 4 years in prison. The investigation is still ongoing. 1
2 Top tips for securing your home Don't leave your keys or ID documents within easy reach of doors, letterboxes or windows. Close and lock all doors and windows. If you have multi-locking door handles, lift the handle, lock it with the key and remove it. Lock garages and sheds so garden tools and ladders can t be used to break into your home. Keep side gates locked and wheelie bins stored behind them. Use timer switches linked to lights and a radio so it appears that someone is at home. Invest in a safe for valuables and sentimental items and securely fix it to a solid surface. Install a visible intruder alarm system - burglars don't want to be seen or heard. Install low level 'dusk till dawn' lighting to increase visibility and deter burglars. Keep side and rear boundaries high to restrict access and front boundaries low to remove hiding places. Photograph and mark valuables and sentimental items with your postcode and house number/name. Register items with serial numbers at: immobilise.com - see related links. Further info at:- Home security survey If you require us to complete a free home security survey on your home please telephone us to make an appointment
3 Drug warrants executed after information from residents During August the team executed a number of drug search warrants at addresses on the ward including on Oak Glen, Upper Brentwood Road and Bridge Point. Drugs were found at all three address including Cocaine and herbal Cannabis. As a result of the search warrants:- A 30 year old male was issued with a fixed penalty notice for possessing Cannabis. A 19 year old male was issued with a Cannabis warning for possessing Cannabis. A 40 year old male was charged with possessing cocaine and received a large fine at North East London Magistrates Court. A 30 year old male was originally arrested for possessing Cannabis with intent to supply but was issued with a fixed penalty notice for possessing only. Contact the team on or Crimestoppers on if you have any information regarding drug misuse. 3
4 Squirrels Heath ward promises set by panel The three ward promises set by the ward panel are:- To tackle low level drug misuse Attempt to tackle winter burglary on ward hotspots Setting up of further NHW's Each ward has a Ward Panel, set up to represent the community in dealing with the Police. The ward panel meets 3-4 times a year and will set local priorities and give up their time to assist Police with community initiatives and activities. If you would like to be a part of the ward panel then contact the team on Emergency Calls When to call should only be used in an emergency & should only be called on 999 when: There is a danger to life or a risk of injury being caused imminently. Examples include serious road accidents, assaults or serious disorders. A crime is in progress. Examples include assault, burglary, and theft or if an offender is still on scene, or has just left. Police attendance is required immediately such as to prevent a breach of peace, someone acting suspiciously or someone who is about to commit an offence. Non-emergency calls When to call the 101 number An operator is available 24/7 to deal with your enquiry. This number should be used for all other enquires, advice on police matters and to report crimes which have already happened with no sign of an offender. 4
