2 PURPOSE AND USE OF PROCESS INDUSTRY PRACTICES In an effort to minimize the cost of process industry facilities, this Practice has been prepared from the technical requirements in the existing standards of major industrial users, contractors, or standards organizations. By harmonizing these technical requirements into a single set of Practices, administrative, application, and engineering costs to both the purchaser and the manufacturer should be reduced. While this Practice is expected to incorporate the majority of requirements of most users, individual applications may involve requirements that will be appended to and take precedence over this Practice. Determinations concerning fitness for purpose and particular matters or application of the Practice to particular project or engineering situations should not be made solely on information contained in these materials. The use of trade names from time to time should not be viewed as an expression of preference but rather recognized as normal usage in the trade. Other brands having the same specifications are equally correct and may be substituted for those named. All Practices or guidelines are intended to be consistent with applicable laws and regulations including OSHA requirements. Introduction 1.1 Purpose This Practice provides installation details for power and control circuits to AC squirrel cage induction motors (600 volts and below, 60 hp maximum), in Class I, Division 1 areas. 1.2 Scope 2. References This Practice describes the requirements for installing circuits for power and control to AC squirrel cage induction motors (600 volts and below, 60 hp maximum), located in Class I, Division 1 areas. This Practice tabularizes the basic assumptions used in developing these details and provides guidelines for their application. The details in this Practice are arranged in the following major groups: a. Above grade circuits in conduit b. Below grade circuits in conduit Each major group contains details categorized as follows: a. Combined power and control wiring in a common raceway b. Separate raceways for power wiring and for control wiring c. Power circuits only d. Control circuits only Installation details for the following areas are excluded from the scope of this Practice: a. Installation in Class I, Group A or Group B areas where conduit fittings larger than 1-inch are required. b. Installation in Class II areas. Applicable parts of the following Practices and industry codes and standards shall be considered an integral part of this Practice. The edition in effect on the date of contract award shall be used, except as otherwise noted. Power circuits are sized based on NFPA 70, Table (B)(16) with 75 degree C conductor insulation and terminations. Voltage drop and de-rating for ambient temperature greater than 30 C are not taken into account in cable sizing in the above table. Cable and conduit sizes for power circuits are based on 460-volt motor amperage. Other conditions may require different cable and conduit sizes. 2. Conduit fittings larger than 1-inch are not currently commercially available for Class I, Div. 1, Groups A and B. 3. Control cables are assumed to include 4 conductors, sized at #12 AWG maximum, for conduit sizing purposes. 4. Power circuits shall include internal ground conductor unless otherwise indicated or specified. 5. Details are based on the 2011 edition of NFPA Application 4.1 The details in this Practice can be applied to multiple horsepower ranges in accordance with Table 1, and are intended to convey general concepts of desired motor installation. 4.2 If specific fields are lined out in a bill of material on a detail, the lined out fields should not be considered applicable to the detail. 4.3 Specific sizes are shown in the bill of material only if the size of the part is common to all applicable motor sizes. 4.4 Details should be customized for specific installations by copying affected details and entering sizes and corresponding part numbers. 4.5 Mounting stand shown on drawing ELIMTS01 in PIP ELIMTS00 is the default stand specified for the bill of material on the details.
