3 Participation on the Eskom SWH programme Participating Supplier The company who registers the product on the programme Is responsible for the guarantee of the product The company that is responsible for the import or manufacture and testing of the product at SABS. Distributor A company who does not import or manufacture a product Has a direct relationship with the guarantee holding company (Participating Supplier) and sells and/or installs their system Responsible for the installation guarantee Distributor to register qualified installers on the programme

5 Distributor and installer registration on the programme The supplier must be accredited with the programme and must register all systems for participation on the programme. The accredited supplier must authorise distributor to sell & install system ( authorisation letter to be submitted on letterhead) Distributor to register all qualified installers and provide proof of qualification (these will be authorised to sign off installation) 5

6 Programme Requirements System Requirements Valid SANS Test Reports (6 months validity) or a valid SABS Mark Approval Tests for mechanical, Thermal and Electrical safety Collector and storage vessel to carry minimum of 5 years guarantee Installed with a timer/load management device in the case of electrical back-up Installation Requirements National Building regulations (SANS 10400) SANS (Installation of solar water heaters) OSHACT All relevant electrical regulations SANS The installation, maintenance, replacement and repair of fixed electric storage water heating systems Installation manual All other relevant standards, regulations & legislation e.g. local bylaws

9 Requirements for a valid claim Claims must be submitted for installed systems only Houses must have running water and electricity Proof of electric connection and address required Roof structures must be able to support the weight of the system System must be registered on the Eskom SWH programme Supplier and installer must be registered on the Eskom SWH programme for that particular system Full customer documentation to be submitted per installation and per home Claims will only be paid up to max quota allocation per month/company 9

11 Quality of installations Most common technical audit issues 1 Loose bolts and nuts on the frame work 2 Plastic pipes used on the outside instead of copper pipes 3 Insulation not installed on the water pipes 4 Eskom barcodes not used on the equipment/customer DB 5 Water proofing not done properly resulting in water leaks at the geyser and pipe work holes left open 6 Water pipes not supported 7 Tank and collectors not facing the optimum direction/angle 8 Incorrect timer setting, SWH System and pipes not earthed properly 9 Water pipes not connected 10 Systems not properly/safely secured to roofs 11 Mixing valves and stop valves not installed 12 No collars on filler tanks 13 Filler tanks leaking & filler tank valves not working

ESKOM SOLAR WATER HEATING PROGRAM Background Eskom requested the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) to provide regulations for the installation of solar water heating units; that will serve as a
