2 General Information Cleveland Community College is pleased to announce the 24th Annual Cleveland County Fire & Rescue College, November 9, 10, and 11, The purpose of this Fire & Rescue College is to make quality training possible for all dedicated fire and rescue personnel. Efforts will be made to accommodate maximum participation in the course of your choice. Your reservation will be based on the prompt return of your registration form and applicable fees. 4 Registration Information Please complete all of the information required on the registration form. If additional registration forms are needed, copies will be accepted. NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE TAKEN BY PHONE OR FAX. FEES MUST ACCOMPANY REGISTRATION FORMS. Fire & Rescue College Fees North Carolina Fire, Rescue, & Law Enforcement Participants: $20 Fire College fee per person (this fee applies to ALL attendees) Additional Class Fees: See class descriptions. Out-of-state and those not fee-waived: $70 per class if class is 1-24 hrs. $125 per class if class is hrs. Plus $20 Fire College fee Registration fees are subject to change without prior notification. Special Notes Certain classes require the signature of the department chief for participation. EXPERIENCE AS A JUNIOR FIREFIGHTER WILL NOT QUALIFY THE STUDENT FOR THESE CLASSES. Some classes require additional fees, which must be included with the registration form. Additional fees can be found in the class description. Online booklets can be found at Students may enroll for multiple classes as long as the class schedules do not conflict or overlap. All classes must be listed on the registration form (located in the back of the brochure). Only one $20 per person Fire & Rescue College fee is required for the weekend, regardless of the number of classes you take. Certificate Information Students attending 80% of the class hours will be awarded a certificate of participation. Attendance will be taken twice each day. Certificates for classes will be mailed to students upon completion of class. 4

Class will cover safe operations and basic aspects of positive displacement and centrifugal pumps. This Mobile Water Supply (Chapter 10) course presents general principles of operating apparatus equipped with various water dumping systems, with application of those principles. This course includes an overview of safe maneuvering, accident prevention, fill site and dump site operations, as well as relay operation procedures. This is a NC Fire and Rescue Commission certification course approved for offering as of July 1, This course should be offered consistent with the most current Commission guidelines. 10 HAZARDOUS MATERIALS CERTIFICATION CLASSES (HMCC) SECTION-7: HAZARDOUS MATERIALS LEVEL I RESPONDER (38 HOURS)-FIP3351 Dates: Thursday - Sunday, 8:30 AM 7:00 PM This course meets OSFM s training requirement for the Hazardous Materials Level I Responder credential. Course content includes lecture and practice activities needed to perform the following tasks safely and effectively: 1. Implement standard operating procedures in the current edition of the DOT Emergency Response Guidebook. 2. Analyze a hazardous materials/wmd incident. 3. Plan an initial response to a hazardous materials/wmd incident. 4. Implement the planned response for a hazardous materials/wmd incident. 5. This course will expose the Hazardous Materials Level I Responder to the knowledge and skills needed to perform the following tasks safely and effectively: 1. Plan a response utilizing mass and technical decontamination processes to minimize the hazard. 2. Implement the planned response to favorably change the outcomes consistent with standard operating procedures and the site safety and control plan. 3. Evaluate the progress of the planned response. 4. Terminate the incident by providing reports and documentation of decontamination operations. : Staff SECTION-10: HAZMAT AIR MONITOR AND SAMPLING (16 HOURS)-FIP3354 Dates: Saturday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM; Sunday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM This course is a new specialty branching from Level I Responder. All currently certified HazMat Awareness and Operations personnel are eligible for this class. This course will expose the Hazardous Materials Level I Responder to the knowledge and skills needed to perform air monitoring and sampling to include the following tasks: 1. Pre-planning, site surveys, incident plans, and size-up will also be covered. Design features of various pieces of farm equipment will be discussed. Introduction to methods for personnel accountability, assignments, tactical priorities, and first due and subsequent arriving engine companies will be conducted using various student and group activities. Size-up for the attack team, equipment for each firefighter, tactical assignments, water supply options, hose, nozzle, ventilation considerations, and stream selection are some of the topics covered in class and through actual hands-on instruction. Firefighter safety, primary search, tool assignments, and tactical priorities are covered. The engine company RIT team assignments will also be covered in this class. This class is a must for the new structural firefighter or officer that has limited experience in the field and would like to have a more effective role on the fire ground. Class size will be limited to the first 30 students. This class will involve a live structural burn. Must be at least 18 years of age and not a current high school student. NFPA 1403 guidelines will be followed including facial hair guidelines. Note: Class begins at 7:00 PM on Friday night. On the first day, a three-hour block of lecture will cover the aircraft rescue and firefighting in a broader view. Day two will begin on the training ground, where students will get an up-close look at a small general aviation aircraft. We will cover the approach to the aircraft and rescue concerns. Students will get the opportunity to remove victims from the cabin several different ways. We will discuss stabilizing the aircraft, as well as securing the aircraft with a proper shutdown. We will then progress into a live burn where students will apply what they have learned to control an aviation incident. This class will utilize CCC s ARFF Training Aircraft! Skills to be covered include: ventilating peaked and flat roofs, horizontal ventilation, forcing doors, saw use, primary searches, searching with water cans, vent/enter/search, and ground ladder placement. This position is deployed from one of the first arriving units. They can relay critical information to the operating force about the rear or sides of the fire building. If the outside vent is properly equipped, they can provide coordinated horizontal ventilation for the fire-attack crew. The seasoned firefighter can use size-up to identify and access (Vent Enter Search) target areas for search that may be difficult to find or are blocked by fire from the inside. This class will provide information about performing the outside vent position and practice applying the skills to be successful. The class is lecture and hands-on and assumes interior firefighting certification. Equipment needed: Full turn-out gear and SCBA with one spare bottle required. Students will enhance their knowledge of what volunteers are looking for, how to recruit them, and how to retain them. They will also learn how to prepare your department to better handle your membership and training needs to retain both new and seasoned members. 37 FIREFIGHTER/RESCUE SKILLS CLASSES (FFRS) SECTION-93: FIRE SCENE DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY (12 HOURS) Dates: Saturday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM; Sunday, 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM This class will allow fire investigators to learn the facts about digital photography and processing digital images for use as evidence in legal proceedings. The strengths and limitations of digital photography and acceptable methods for securing the images and documenting processing after the images are made will be discussed. The presentation will also introduce the key components of a digital image SOP for use by fire investigators and key legal decisions that have impacted the acceptance of digital images in the court room. : Staff SECTION-94: THE RECOGNITION OF THE OCCULT FOR THE FIRST RESPONDER (12 HOURS) Dates: Saturday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM; Sunday, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM This class is designed to educate first responders in the area of the occult and terrorism. It will attempt to dispel myths and misunderstanding often created by the media including Hollywood. During the first half of the class, the instructor will define and discuss the differences of Satanism, Witchcraft and Hispanic/Mexican folk magic. Because of the growing concern of gangs and hate groups, special attention will be given to Hispanic drug cartels and their deceiving practices of religious traditions and rituals that appear to be Catholic in nature. Illustrations of the narco satins, including Santa Muerta who is the saint of death, will be shown to enlighten the first responder with a better understanding of the misuse of Catholic saints. The second half of the class will define terrorism, including the differences between international, domestic, state sponsored, lone wolf, cyber and agricultural. The distinct comparison will be presented between religion and its contribution to terrorism. Students will have a better understanding of weapons of mass destruction and their relative potential for death and destruction. Other information covered will include the definition of improvised explosive devices and sleeper cells, indicators of potential terrorist activity, vulnerabilities and what might be targeted and the origins of radical Islam and why they hate us. Most importantly, the instructor will discuss the dangers of terrorism for the first responder. This block of instruction is unique and valuable and encompasses over 25 years of law enforcement training for both instructors. No recording devices or cameras will be allowed in the classroom.
