Project Need: Each year, there are fatalities on farms due to entry into confined-space manure storages. Forced ventilation has been shown to be effective for reducing concentrations of these noxious gases to levels that are safe for human entry into the pits. The standard is limited to on-farm confined-space, on-farm manure storages with solid, partially slotted or totally slotted covers. The primary focus of the standard will be for rectangular prismatic or cylindrical shaped storages. The standard will be sufficiently broad for use in installing ventilation systems in existing manure storage systems and for designing ventilation systems in new installations. The standard identifies evacuation times to reduce noxious gases from maximum expected concentrations to levels safe for human occupancy. Project Need: Oxygenates are considered catalyst poisons and must be dectected and measured to protect commercial process. Covers the gas chromatographic procedure for the quantitative determination of organic oxygenates in ethylene, propylene, C4, and C4 matrices by multidimensional gas chromatography and flame ionization detection. Project Need: To develop a new Standard Practice to address sampling, storage, and handling issues associated with hydrocarbon samples involving mercury analysis. Covers the types of and preparation of containers found most suitable for the handling of hydrocarbon samples for the determination of mercury. Project Need: To provide only the basic steps for generally encountered sample types. Anything out of the ordanary may require special procedures. Describes different means by which petroleum product and lubricant samples can be prepared before the measurement of their elemental content using different analytical techniques.
