2 Sievi Pioneer and Manufacturer of Quality It was almost 70 years ago, with four employees working in very modest conditions, when the foundations were laid for shoe manufacturing by Sievi s skilled shoemakers and a new concept was born; Sievi quality. Today, Sievi is the largest manufacturer of footwear in Northern Europe, producing one million pairs of footwear a year. Founded in 1951 by Lauri Jokinen, Sievin Jalkine Oy established its operations in the village of Sievi making boots which combined a foot piece made of rubber with a leather shaft and it wasn t until 1964 that the idea for safety footwear was conceived. The demand for industrial safety products grew rapidly in the 70's but, by this time, Sievi was well prepared to meet this demand as we had already at the time developed a wide range of safety footwear. This is how one of the fundamentals of Sievi s success was created: a specialist in safety footwear. The cornerstones of Sievi s success are decades of experience, a strong and committed family business culture, continuous development of our operations and the utilization of the latest technology. Today, our customers are supported by a fully automated warehouse with over 100,000 pairs of footwear in stock which guarantees excellent product availability and prompt, punctual delivery times. Sievi manufactures its footwear with Finnish workmanship and skill in Sievi and Oulainen, employing over 500 people. By wearing Sievi you can say with pride - Made in Finland. Certificates ISO 9001: The ISO 9001 quality certificate ensures that products are always manufactured according to a consistent production method from high and uniform quality materials. Quality can be checked at every stage of the production process. ISO 14001: Sievi is the first European shoe factory to implement a certified environmental system based on the ISO standard. This ensures that the environmental impact of the company s production and material procurement is minimized. OHSAS 18001: Sievi has been awarded the OHSAS certificate, which confirms that the company s occupational health and safety management system meets the requirements of the above standard. 3

4 Sievi - Continuous Development Sievi's safety footwear is constructed of a variety of components combining advanced safety and comfort. The upper material varies according to the purpose and conditions for which the shoe has been designed. The upper has to be breathable and hard-wearing. Materials such as breathable and washable microfibre and technical fabrics are used in Sievi footwear in addition to leather. Thanks to their first-rate materials, Sievi footwear are extremely resistant to wear, dirt and various chemicals, water repellent and maintain their shape throughout their service lives. Sole materials are carefully chosen to fit the shoe's purpose. In working conditions, the sole has to be able to withstand oil, chemicals and, if necessary, high temperatures. In indoor work, breathability is key. l Sievi footwear is made with proprietary microporous FlexStep sole material developed by Sievi, which retains its excellent shock absorption and flexibility also in winter conditions and provides a stable footing on slippery surfaces due to its great grip. Sievi has also developed other sole solutions for different conditions, such as the GripStep friction sole, patented Sievi Spike studded sole and breathable SieviAir sole. 5 GB CONTENTS: The most important property of safety footwear is protecting the wearer from occupational accidents. Sievi safety footwear is available in three toecap materials: steel, aluminium and composite. Additional protection is provided by a penetration resistant midsole of either composite textile or steel. Safety and occupational footwear is often worn for long periods of time, so comfort is also paramount. The extreme comfort of Sievi shoes is ensured by solutions such as the flexible FlexEnergy component (made of BASF TPU-Infinergy ), memory foam ankle protection and various insoles.
