Developed from integrating many years of product innovation through research and development across Europe, the MZX Technology platform has provided some of the best sensing technologies over 100 years and has been a great contributor to early detection and minimizing false alarms. It has also been responsible for some of the best installation techniques allowing easy and flexible engineering and installation. This has resulted in the range being one of the most resilient, reliable and serviceable systems available and has the broadest level of standards compliance. in 2000 s was one of the world s first fire detection manufacturers to transition from analogue to digital communication technology ensuring high levels of system resilience and reliability. 4 EN54-23 Approved Visual Alarm Devices EN54-23 is the mandatory standard for all visual alarm devices (VAD) used on fire systems as a primary means of alarm. There are several reasons for providing visual alarms for fire alarm systems, including: To alert people with a hearing loss Noisy areas where occupants are wearing ear defenders For staff alarms For use in broadcasting studios Areas such as hospital operating theatres Stage one visual alarms for extinguishing systems A fire alarm system design should be based on a risk assessment taking into account the needs of the occupants with particular attention to the siting and location of VADs. It is normally a requirement to have consistency of tone and VAD flash rate / colour throughout a system, this also needs to be taken into account for replacements and extensions. It is important to check local installation and design codes and practices. Loop powered audible and visual alarms allow a single point of installation resulting in a lower system cost whilst addressable systems provide a greater level of control for individual or groups of alarm devices. Although traditionally red LEDs have been used for VADs, they are less efficient than white resulting in higher current consumption. As white LEDs are more efficient they are the preferred choice for sophisticated addressable loop powered systems. EN54-23 classifies VADs as either Wall, Ceiling or Open. For open class VADs the standard allows the manufacturer to specify the mounting height and positioning, providing flexibility for the system configuration. Addressable, loop powered open class products provide the most cost effective VAD solution for primary alarm applications. // Index EN54-23 Approved

5 The AVBase Range EN54 Compliant The addressable loop powered sounder base meets the requirements of EN54 part 3 whilst the loop powered addressable sounder with beacon base is also approved to EN54 part 23 as an open category device. Simplified Installation As a single point of installation for detector, isolator, sounder and beacon, installation costs are reduced and wiring is simplified. Four volume settings are selectable ranging from high (90dB) to low (60dB) and 15 tones are available. The high brightness Multi- LED beacon provides open category coverage in accordance with EN Programming has been simplified by allowing the tone, volume and flash rate to be set by the MZX Consys configuration utility. This means adjustments to the settings can be achieved without having to access the device location. Changes can be made to all sounders by a single panel software download which saves time and reduces commissioning costs. Reduced lifetime cost with a quick and simple test mechanism - Reflective Sound Monitoring (RSM) Reflective Sound Monitoring is employed to monitor the audio output of the sounder. This is particularly beneficial during regular weekly sounder tests. RSM allows the system to listen for audibility whenever the sounders are operated and the panel will alert the user if any sounders fail to operate. Failure of the beacon would also generate a fault at the control panel. Integral Line Isolation This range of AV Bases are designed to operate on the robust MZX digital loop. An integral line isolator automatically provides protection against short circuit cable faults thus reducing the need for additional line isolator modules. AVBase Range

6 The Sounder and Sounder Beacon Range EN54 compliant The addressable loop powered sounders meet the requirements of EN54 part 3 whilst the loop powered addressable sounders with beacon are also approved to EN54 part 23 as open category devices. Selectable settings A high (103dB) output or low (90dB) output can be selected for any of the 16 selectable tones. 7 Visual and audible alarm devices for a wide range of environments The sounder and sounder beacon range consists of six models that satisfy a wide variety of siting needs. There are three sounder only models that are approved to EN54 part 3 and three combined sounder beacon models that are also approved to EN 54 part 23. In addition to the traditional red housing used for fire alarm applications, there are white housings suitable for blending into many decor surroundings. Where audible and visual alarms are required outdoors or in harsh working environments, weatherproof versions carrying an ingress protection rating of IP65 are also available. Independent control of sounders and beacons Combined sounder beacon models cost less to install than separate units but it is important that independent control of the audible and visual signals is maintained. The range of loop powered addressable devices allows the system to operate the sounder only, the beacon only or both together over the addressable loop, without the need for additional controls. Easy to install Particular attention has been paid to the ease of installation which in turn delivers reduced installation costs. Indoor models use a snap together mechanism for final assembly.
