2 Safety Mat System The SM.. safety mat is the sensing element of this safety system and is used in safe-guarding access applications to control potentially hazardous areas, typically around industrial machinery. The control unit is given by the MT1-D safety module, allowing dangerous operations to be stopped any time the operator steps in the protected area. This Safety System represents an effective way to protect operators working around hazardous machines, offering at the same time flexibility without any movement restriction and keeping the requested safety level with certainty, as there is no worry on replacing mechanical gates or barriers. It also can be used for heavy duty applications in dusty and damp environments, where no other safety devices could be properly used. Another advantage of this type of solution is that with such a device a whole zone is monitored and not only a perimeter, as is typical using other safety devices. Machine tools, industrial robots and presses represent typical application fields. How does it work? The Safety Mat System operates like a normal open switch; since the MT1-D Safety Module continuously checks the Safety Mat status and integrity, if any operator steps into the danger area, by the pressure on the mat, the circuit gets closed and a stop signal is sent to the Safety relay, causing the dangerous operation of the machinery to be stopped. The same happens in case of failure or anomaly in the system. Depending on the specific needs, the Safety System can operate in automatic or manual mode. When the key is removed, the circuit is opened. LS..E Key Actuated Interlocks do not allow the key release in unsafe conditions. By measuring the residual voltage into the stator coils of the electric engine, the module allows the machine to execute certain operations, like spindle tool change operations in machine tools, or the operator to open mobile protections, only when this value is below a precise level (response value), which assures that the shaft speed is within a safety value range. Safety Light Curtains Any time the operator crosses the perimeter of the hazardous area, the system stops the machinery. It detects the presence of the operator through the interruption of the infrared beams between transmitter and receiver unit. Safety Mat System Stops the machinery any time the operator steps into the hazardous area around the plant. It detects the presence of the operator by the pressure.
