CONTENTS SECTION 1 Product Description SECTION 2 Parts supplied with cabinet SECTION 3 Installation & Operation Procedure SECTION 4 Alarm Test Sequence Flow Chart SECTION 5 Maintenance & Servicing SECTION 6 Product Warranty Section 1 Product Description This Blood Refrigerator is designed to maintain bags (500ml) of whole red blood at +4.0ºC ± 1ºC which is within the requirements of Australian Standard AS The cabinet is constructed from durable colorbond mild steel exterior and durable plastic interior. Ducting is provided to enhance uniform airflow across each bag of stored blood. As standard, shelving is in the form of open wire shelves with rails to prevent the blood bags from entering air space required for airflow and assist in maintaining uniform storage of product. THERMOSCAN 1000 Alarm Monitoring System This alarm system has been exclusively developed for Thermoline Scientific to our design specifications, which are within the guidelines of AS to monitor the refrigerator's temperature and power status. TLS 10/10/07 2
Section 1 Product Description cont. The Auto-Test function physically cools then heats the alarm temperature probe to simulate Hi/Lo Temperature Alarms, saving the operator from having to test manually by themselves which is both time consuming and inconvenient. Thermal lagging of the display and chart recorder temperature sensor is in the form of an aluminium block arrangement that does not require any routine maintenance such as fluid replacement or replenishment. A Door Ajar alarm is included which responds to extended door openings. Section 2 Parts supplied with the Cabinet Checklist Inside this refrigerator, the following items are supplied. 3 Pin Plug Assembly (Remote Alarms) 1 x Box of Chart Recorder Papers (100) with supplementary instruction booklet for TCR-115 Gel Cell Battery (Alarm System) and Cradle Bracket (this one only) Open wire Shelves Keys - 1 x pair for Chart Recorder 1 x pair for Main Access Door. Mains Power Lead Section 3 Installation & Operation Please note that it is advised a Qualified Person with suitable level of technical knowledge install this Refrigerator, particularly when connecting remote alarms to the refrigerator. The Refrigerator must only be installed in an area that is permanently ventilated. (Maximum ambient +32ºC) 1) Once all packaging has been removed from inside and out of the refrigerator, please dispose of this material thoughtfully. 2) Push the refrigerator near its final position where the floor must be stable and level so as not to distort cabinet and affect door operation and sealing. Open the door and remove items as listed. Final position should ensure at least 75mm above and on each side of cabinet for convectional ventilation to the refrigeration unit. 3) Remove the wrapping from the parts that were stored inside the refrigerator. A plug is supplied for the connection of your (BMS) Building Monitoring System to the blood refrigerator via a socket (as labelled next page) at the rear of the cabinet. TLS 10/10/07 3
Section 3 Installation & Operation cont. Connection of external alarm line (if available). REMOTE ALARM CONNECTION WE STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT THIS FACILITY BE CONNECTED TO A 24 HOUR 7 DAY SURVEILENCE SYSTEM TO ENSURE FULL MONITORING. Normally Open Will close loop upon alarm situation (No 2) Common At least one wire is connected to this pin (No 3) *Normally Closed Will open loop upon alarm situation (No 1) *This is the best option as any break in the loop is detected. Terminate the signal wires into the plug and insert it into the socket. 4) Mount the battery cradle into the bracket provided on the rear of the cabinet. Connect the alarm battery to the two terminal leads. RED LEAD TERMINAL RED BATTERY TERMINAL BLUE LEAD TERMINAL BLACK BATTERY TERMINAL Ensure correct polarity connection is achieved as the TS 1000 Alarm System will not function. 5) Unroll the mains lead and plug into the socket at the back of the cabinet. Then plug into standard 240V ± 5%* 50Hz 10A G.P.O. (general-purpose outlet). Switch the G.P.O. on. *If voltage fluctuation is greater than ±5%, then a TLS Voltage Fluctuation Protection Unit TVFP-16 should be considered. 6) Starting the refrigerator MAINS Circuit Breaker Rocker Switch Switches power to the entire cabinet and doubles as a manual reset circuit breaker in the event of an electrical issue (eg. voltage.) Location Rear of cabinet. Flick the MAINS switch on and the digital display of the Thermoscan 1000 Alarm Panel will illuminate to display the internal cabinet temperature (Thermoscan alarm panel remains disabled). The refrigeration unit should start within seconds of switching on the refrigerator. If the TVFP-16 Voltage Fluctuation Protection Unit is installed, then a 3 minute delay start can be expected from the time the mains lead was plugged into the wall power outlet and GPO switched on. 7) Gently slide the refrigerator towards the back wall into final position ensuring not to damage flooring. Push until the cabinet touches the wall then pull forward by at least 75mm to allow for airspace for critical ventilation. Leave approximately 75mm space between cabinet and rear wall. Ensure cabinet is tilted towards the rear so to ensure that condensate water is drained away from the drip tray inside the cabinet at the rear. TLS 10/10/07 4
Section 3 Installation & Operation cont. 8) Shelves are pre-positioned to provide the best storage configuration. To remove each shelf For cleaning for example, slide them forward and lift. 9) Allow the refrigerator to operate until the temperature as displayed on the digital display reaches and stabilises at +4 C. Set up the chart recorder in next step. 10) Chart Recorder Set up (TCR-115) Thermograph Monitors and logs the internal temperature of the Blood Refrigerator. The dark band on the chart paper indicates the zone within which the blood temperature should remain. With the appropriate key, unlock the transparent cover on the Chart Recorder unit mounted centrally on the control panel. 11) Using a coin or similar, turn the centre spindle of the chart paper ANTI-CLOCKWISE ONLY to adjust to correct time and day. If the chart paper is turned clockwise, then a fault may arise, where the chart paper is actually 'ahead' of the timer motor. So, it may appear that the chart is not turning or it is slow when the timer motor maybe just 'catching up'. 12) Carefully remove the pen nib cover from the nib arm assembly. It is advisable to twist the cover while you are removing it. Press the lever at the opposite end of the arm to lower the nib onto the chart paper checking that the nib contacts the paper. 13) At the bottom left hand corner of the chart recorder face a pot labelled 'ADJ' is located. This pot is for calibration purposes and adjustment is not usually required at this point. Close the transparent cover of the recorder and lock accordingly to prevent tampering. 14) Internal Cabinet View Light - A viewing light is mounted at the top front internally of the cabinet which can be switched by a pushbutton switch beside the light assembly. TLS 10/10/07 5
Section 3 Installation & Operation cont. Operation of the Thermoscan 1000 (referred to as TS-1000). Do not operate this refrigerator for an extended period of time without initiating the alarm system. REMOTE ALARM CONNECTION IT IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED THAT IF YOU VALUE YOUR PRODUCT, THIS FACILITY MUST BE CONNECTED TO A 24 HOUR 7 DAY SURVEILENCE SYSTEM TO ENSURE FULL MONITORING, INCLUDING PERIODS OF TIME WHERE LOCAL ATTENDANCE IS NOT LIKELY (e.g. weekends). Study the detail below then proceed to step 15). Refer to this detail as required. Stand By Indicator (Green Non Flash) Indicates the TS-1000 is activated and ready to respond to any anomalies that may arise. Mute Button Press this button to silence the beeper in an alarm situation or during the test sequence. The silence period is 20 minutes after which the beeper will sound again if normal condition is yet to be reached. Press button accordingly. TS-1000 ON/OFF BUTTON (Hidden). Press and hold this square for 5 seconds with a buzzer sounding upon which the TS-1000 will initiate, signalled by the STAND BY indicator. Press & hold to switch off if required. Digital Display Displays the internal temperature of the refrigerator. Also containing the Temp. alarm contacts. Test Button (with red indicator) Press this button for 3 sec and the alarm test sequence will initiate with red light on. The indicator will continue to be lit for 60 minutes in total. High Temp Alarm Indicator (Red Flash) Will flash in the event of a high temperature situation occurring. Beeper will sound & remote alarms will be switched. Low Temp Alarm Indicator (Red Flash) Will flash in the event of a low temperature situation occurring. Beeper will sound & remote alarms will be switched. Power Loss Alarm Indicator (Red Flash) Will flash in the event of power disconnection to the freezer via the mains plug or mains keyswitch. Beeper will sound & remote alarms will be switched. Low Battery Indicator (Red Flash) Will flash in the event of the Back up Battery condition for the TS-1000 deteriorating below an acceptable level. (11VDC). Beeper will sound and remote alarms will be switched. 15) Remove and discard this label and turn the TS-1000 on (see diagram). The (Green) STANDBY LIGHT will illuminate. 16) The TS-1000 is now activated and MUST be tested to ensure correct operation before usage. Detailed in following pages. TLS 10/10/07 6
Section 3 Installation & Operation cont. 17) Performing the Alarm Test Sequence As a quick guide, please refer to the TS 1000 Alarm test Sequence in Section 4. Before commencing the Test, notify if applicable your security personnel that you are about to do so. They will receive a signal via the remote contacts on the refrigerator. Cabinet temperature will stabilise within 60 minutes of commencing the test sequence. It is suggested that you again contact security to verify that they did receive notice of an alarm. Important Notes regarding the TS-1000 and Test Sequence i) Frequency of Tests The test sequence can be performed quite regularly however usual frequency is once weekly. Always allow temperature to stabilise again before testing. ii) LOW BATTERY situation If this alarm occurs during the Test Sequence it will generally occur early in the sequence. If the Battery voltage drops below 11VDC, then the test will be aborted, the LOW BATTERY alarm will be activated with all signals emitted. The Battery will possibly need replacing. Refer to the Maintenance and Servicing section of the this manual for Battery location and servicing. iii) A Test Sequence will not initiate if the cabinet temperature is above the HIGH TEMP alarm setpoint or if there is a POWER LOSS situation. If the TEST button is pressed in these instances, then nothing will occur. DOOR AJAR ALARM This refrigerator is supplied with a door ajar alarm whereby an audible signal will sound when the cabinet door is opened for an extended time period. Alarm Sequence Door open time > 1 x minute = 1 x beep pulse/5seconds Door open time > 2 x minutes = continuous beep pulse Note To prevent nuisance alarming remote alarm is not activated whilst door ajar alarm occurs. If door is left open unattended, then it is expected that the HIGH TEMP alarm will be activated and notify security personnel. If you are loading the refrigerator with stock and have to keep the door open for longer than normal, to reset the alarm, simply close and reopen door. If the refrigerator is to be stored or shut down for a period exceeding 1 week then it is suggested that the Battery is disconnected by physically removing the RED +ve terminal from the battery. This will enhance Battery life. 18) Allow the refrigerator to operate for a period of twenty-four hours, then check that the chart recorder has maintained correct time. 19) Once all steps 1-18 of this manual have been performed, the refrigerator will now be ready to use. TLS 10/10/07 7
Section 4 Alarm Test Sequence: With the TS1000 in Standby mode the green standby indicator will be illuminated and the display will indicate Alarm Armed : Press and hold the Test button for a few seconds, the buzzer will sound during this period and then the test sequence will begin. The TS1000 first checks the condition of the battery, during this time the power loss alarm and battery indicators will be illuminated. The indicator on the Test button will also be illuminated. TLS 10/10/07 8
If the battery condition is inadequate the test sequence will fail and the display will indicate Low battery. The test will have to be aborted and the battery replaced before continuing. Use the Hidden button to turn the TS1000 off (standby light out), this will remove the low battery alarm. Then after replacing the battery use the hidden button to place the TS1000 in standby again. If the battery condition is good the test sequence will continue and the Power loss alarm & Low battery indicators will flash for one minute before proceeding to the low alarm test. The TS1000 will cool the sensor down to the low alarm temperature of 2.5ºC. When the sensor reaches the low alarm temperature of 2.5ºC the buzzer will sound and the display will indicate a low temperature alarm: TLS 10/10/07 9
The TS1000 will then heat the sensor up to the high alarm temperature of 5.5ºC. When the temperature reaches 5.5ºC the buzzer will sound and the display will indicate a High Temperature Alarm. Use the Mute button to silence the buzzer at this time. TLS 10/10/07 10
At this time the test sequence is essentially complete. The sensor will cool down naturally below the 5.5ºC high alarm temperature within a few minutes. The display will then indicate that the test is complete, and the Test button indicator will be illuminated for 60 minutes. During this 60 minutes the test sequence cannot be started again. Section 5 Maximum & minimum logging: The TS1000 has an extra feature that allows the operator to view the minimum and maximum logged temperatures at the press of a button. The operator can also reset these temperatures whilst viewing them. To view the minimum logged temperature press the button once. Press the button again to view the maximum logged temperature. To reset either temperature, press the button whilst viewing the temperature. TLS 10/10/07 11
