Section Includes SECTION DOOR HARDWARE The work in this section includes furnishing and installing all items of architectural hardware for aluminum, wood and hollow metal swinging doors and frames. 2 1.03 SUBMITTALS A. General Requirements Make submittals in accordance with section Submittal Procedures. B. Schedules Provide itemized vertical hardware schedule that conforms to DHI s Sequence and Format for the Hardware Schedule. The schedule shall include a cover page with the job name and contact information for the AHC, Distributor, Architect and Contractor. Include a detailed keying schedule with opening numbers and a complete list of abbreviations used. Each hardware set shall have a heading containing Architects opening number, degree of opening, room names and room numbers, hardware set number, fire rating, keyset number, frame material, door material, stile and rail dimensions, nominal sizes and handing, frame dimensions including jamb depth, stop height, soffit width and face dimensions. List alike doors in the same hardware set. For each hardware item show quantity, description, function, style, fastening, size, finish, manufacturer and mounting heights. Include voltages and operational descriptions for electrified hardware. C. Product Data For each copy of the Hardware Schedule provide one copy of product data to be submitted with the Hardware Schedule. Product data shall include catalog cut sheets and technical data for each item of hardware to be furnished. Highlight model numbers, sizes, finishes, fastening, voltages and listings for fire ratings. D. Templates If requested provide hardware mounting templates. Provide mounting heights for each hardware item. E. Wiring Diagrams 1. Elevation Drawings Furnish each electronic copy of elevation drawings on 8 1/2 x 11 paper with the hardware schedule for each opening that has electrified hardware. Drawing shall include door number, hardware set number and illustration showing the electrified hardware components in there approximate position in the opening with lines representing the wiring in between components. Show AC power and fire alarm inputs for power supply. List mounting heights for switches, model numbers, manufacturers and voltages for each component. Provide operation description explaining how each opening is to operate. 2. Point to point drawings Upon approved hardware schedule furnish 1 each electronic copy of a point to point diagram for each opening with electrified hardware. Diagram shall be on 8 ½ x 11 paper and reference the elevation diagram drawing is based on. Show each components wiring terminals, wire and conductor size. Code low voltage wires so red is positive, black is negative and blue is dry contacts with no voltage.detail lines representing the wiring between terminals from component to component show the terminating ends for each wire. Include operation description for how opening shall operate

3 F. Keying Schedule Upon approval of finish hardware schedule establish a keying meeting with the owner s representative. Furnish a key schedule that lists opening number, hand, type of locking hardware, catalog number, hardware set and keyset for each opening. Key system shall conform to DHI s manual Keying Systems and Nomenclature. Submit same quantity of key schedules as hardware schedules. G. Samples If requested provide hardware sample items. Approved samples shall be incorporated into the project. Items rejected shall be returned to the door distributer. H. Operation and Maintenance Manuals Prior to substantial completion date furnish closeout submittals in accordance with Section Closeout Submittals. Furnish a close out manual to include the following information. Supplier contact information, approved hardware schedule, product data, as built wiring diagrams, keying schedule, installation Instructions, and product warranties and maintenance Instructions QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Supplier Qualifications Furnish hardware items from a supplier who is regularly engaged in the business of supplying architectural hardware of the same types and size for at least two years. Supplier shall have warehousing and office facilities within a 50 mile radius of the project and be a factory authorized distributor of specified products. Hardware supplier shall employ a full time Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC) certified by the Door and Hardware Institute of Chantilly Virginia. Supplier shall submit documentation showing they meet the requirements for this project. B. Installers Installers shall have a minimum of 2 years experience installing architectural hardware and be proficient in reading detailed hardware schedules. If requested provide written documentation with the installer s names and contact information and include a list of three similar jobs they have worked on within the past two years. Provide contact information for the door distributor and building owner or maintenance supervisor for each project. C. Pre-Installation Hardware Meeting Installer shall attend a pre-installation hardware meeting with the AHC from the supplier prior to installing hardware. Review the hardware schedule, products, templates, fasteners, manufacturer instructions and maintaining clearances for fire rated openings

4 D. Fire Door Assemblies Fire exit hardware shall be installed only on doors bearing the marking Fire door to be equipped with fire exit hardware. Fire door assemblies shall be installed per NFPA 80. Fire door assemblies shall close and latch and have proper clearances. Verify hardware being installed on fire doors has a label to verify that the hardware is fire rated and has been tested by an authorized agency SHIPPING, HANDLING AND DELIVERY A. Marking and Packing Materials shall be shipped to jobsite in their original packaging. Hardware shall be marked with a label that corresponds to the hardware schedule include opening number, hand, size, and hardware set number. B. Job Site Delivery Deliver hardware for the aluminum doors and frames to the aluminum door supplier. Deliver the remaining hardware products to the job site. Jointly inventory products and verify if there are any back orders or shortages. C. Storage Hardware shall be stored at the jobsite in a secure, clean and dry room with adequate shelving to keep hardware items off the floor. Room shall be environmentally controlled to protect electrified hardware from any damage. Hardware items shall be sorted and ranked by door numbers WARRANTY Products must meet or exceed the warranty conditions listed in Section Warrantees and Guarantees. The following warranties exceed Section Warrantees and Guarantees requirements. Provide reason for substitution and product cut sheets with information highlighted to show proposed products meet or exceed established level of design, function and quality. Substitution request must be made 7 days prior to bid date MATERIALS Hardware items listed have been selected to establish a minimum level of design, function and quality. Item with an asterisk (*) next to them appear in the hardware sets. A. Fasteners Attach finish hardware using manufacturers recommended means of fastening for each application. Do not use sex nuts and bolts to attach hardware. At fire doors use threaded to the head screws to fasten hardware to door. 1. Wood Screws (WS)- Fastening hardware to wood doors and frames 2. Template Machine Screw (TMS) Fastening hardware to steel frames and doors 3. Strike Template Machine Screws (STMS)-Fastening strike plate to a hollow metal frame 4. Conventional Hinges Hinges shall conform to BHMA A Provide heavy weight five knuckle ball bearing hinges.. Provide five (5) inch hinge height for doors over three feet six inches wide. Size hinge width to minimally clear trim. Reverse beveled doors with locking hardware shall have a non-removable pin (NRP). Provide hinges with a flat button tip unless special purpose hinges are listed in hardware sets. Hinges on fire rated doors shall be a ball bearing type made from a steel base metal and conform to NFPA 80. Exterior doors shall use stainless steel base metal. Provide a minimum of three hinges on a seven foot high door add one (1) hinge for every additional 30 of

Strikes a. Strikes for Cylindrical and Mortise Locks Provide strike with curved lip and length required to accommodate jamb and trim detail and projection. Use a flat lipped strike with lip length flush with face of door on pairs of that have an overlapping astragal. At new openings furnish a 4 7/8 ANSI Strike. At pairs of doors with an overlapping astragal provide a 7/8 flat lip strike that is flush with the face of door. Cylinders shall be Interchangeable core type. Cylinders and cores shall be part of a factory key system. Mortise cylinders shall be the correct size and have the proper cam for each hardware application. Rim cylinders shall be the proper size and have a horizontal tail. 9 G. Protection Plates 1. Kick Plates Kick plates shall be.050 gauge and beveled on all 4 edges. Kick plates shall be 8 high and 2 less than door width (LDW) on single doors and 1 less than door width (LDW) on a pair. Plate shall have counter sunk screw holes. Any plates over 16 in height used on labeled doors shall have a UL stamp on them. Provide 12 plates where specified. 12 2. Power Supplies a. 24VDC Volt Power Supply door controller Provide a 24 volt DC boxed type power supply with filtered and regulated output power. Power supply shall have a fire alarm input that will turn off power to the device in the event of a fire alarm. Amps from power supply shall exceed the amps required from electronic devices. Power Transfer -Powder Coat on stainless steel 2.04 KEYING Cylinder manufacturer to have a minimum (10) years experience designing secured master key systems and have on record a published security keying system policy. Provide manufacturer s standard; finish face to match lockset, interchangeable type cores, removable by use of a special key, usable with other manufacturers cylinders. Furnish un-combinated IC Best cores to be given to the District to be keyed by owner. Provide blank keys for all cores to owner. Provide (3) control keys for installing and removing interchangeable cores. All keys and cores to be factory shipped directly to owner s representative. Upon substantial completion date, the owner s representative will turn over cores to contractor for installation. Provide temporary keyed construction cores for each locking device on project. All interchangeable cores shall be keyed alike with (12) twelve change keys and (2) two control keys. All temporary cores shall be used until substantial completion date. Return all temporary cores and keys to hardware supplier upon substantial completion of job

14 PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION A. Inspection of door frames Prior to installing hardware verify frames have been properly installed and are rigidly secured to wall construction. Verify all frames installed are level plumb and true and are the correct hand, opening size and labeled for fire protection where scheduled. Inspect frames for damage. Repair or replace with new any damaged frames. Verify the frames are prepared and reinforced to receive scheduled hardware. B. Inspection of door leaves Verify door leaves are the correct type, size, hand and are labeled for fire protection as scheduled. Inspect door leaves for damage. Repair or replace with new damaged doors. Verify door leaves are prepared and reinforced to receive scheduled hardware. C. Preparation of adjacent work Door leaves and frames shall be painted or stained prior to installing hardware items. Adjacent areas shall be wiped down and cleaned. D. Inspection of hardware items Verify each hardware item is the correct quantity, size, hand, voltage for electrified hardware, and has the proper fasteners as listed in the hardware schedule. Inspect all hardware for damage or defects. Repair or replace with new damaged items INSTALLATION Install finish hardware in accordance with manufacturers recommended procedures and methods. Provide installer with DHI publication Installation guide for installing doors and hardware to use as a guide during installation. A. Hardware Mounting Heights Mount all hardware at heights in accordance to DHI s publication Recommended locations for architectural hardware for standard steel doors and frames C. Clearances Install fire doors, frames and hardware in accordance with clearances listed in NFPA 80. Clearances for non-fire rated doors shall be 1/8 at top of door, 1/8 at hinge edge of door, 1/8 at latch side of door, 1/4" between the bottom edge of door and threshold and 1/2" between bottom edge of door and finished floor. D. Surface mounted door closers Surface door closer shall be mounted on the room side of an opening and out of the corridor. Use appropriate arms, brackets, spacers and accessories to properly install surface door closers. E. Wall mounted door bumpers and holders Install blocking in between studs to support wall bumpers and holders. Locate concave and convex type door bumpers to come in contact with the center of lever handles

15 F. Gasketing Install adhesive gasketing in accordance with manufacturer s instructions. Gasketing shall form a continuous seal between the door leaves and frame. Install soffit surface applied gasket before any other soffit applied hardware. G. Cylindrical Locks At existing doors Prep the doors to except new locksets. If necessary patch any holes and match stain. I. Exit Devices At existing doors prep the doors to except new exit device. If necessary patch any holes and stain to match existing door. Provide cover plates if needed FIELD QUALITY CONTROL Prior to substantial completion date openings shall be inspected and any punch list items will repaired or replaced with new ADJUSTING AND CLEANING Adjust and shim fire rated doors to ensure clearances conform with NFPA 80. Adjust all door closers for proper operation after HVAC system is balanced and adjusted. Verify spring power of closers are properly adjusted. Clean all exposed doors and hardware surfaces per manufacturer recommendations. Remove any pencil or other marks on doors. Leave doors, frames and hardware in a clean neat appearance. Upon substantial completion date remove temporary protective covers from finish hardware PROTECTION Leave protective coatings on hardware until substantial completion date. Wrap fire label, lock, panic and pull trim hardware with plastic bubble wrap or craft paper to protect finish from damage until substantial completion date. Remove hardware items prior to painting, staining or retouching doors and frames.
