A guide to canola bloom stages Preventing yield loss in your InVigor hybrids

How can this bloom guide help you? Simply, it s all about protecting the yield potential of your high yielding InVigor canola hybrids. Like all canola, InVigor hybrids are at risk from the damage done by sclerotinia (stem rot). Too much depends on the outcome of your growing season to not take action. To set yourself up for the greatest potential return from every acre, apply Proline fungicide at the optimal bloom stage. The objective of an application of Proline fungicide is to protect as many canola flower petals as possible, prior to significant petal drop. Proline offers both protective and curative activity on your InVigor. Using Proline between the 20 and 50% bloom stages can reduce infection rates up to 80%.

Here s how to accurately identify the bloom stage of your crop: 1. Find the main stem 2. Pull off the secondary branches 3. Count only the open flowers on the main stem, including aborted flowers and newly formed pods 4. Sample several plants across the field

Application timing The purpose of applying Proline fungicide is to protect as many canola flower petals as possible, prior to significant petal drop. The optimum application timing is between 20% and 30% bloom. Application information Rate: fl oz/a Water volume: Ground, 20 gal/acre Packaging: 2 x 2.5 gallon jugs Rainfast: 2 hours Formulation: Prothioconazole 480 g/l SC (liquid)

10% BLOOM ~10 open flowers on the main stem What to scout for: ~10 open flowers on the main stem (include aborted flowers and developing pods) Generally, it takes a crop from two to four days to move from first flower to 10% bloom Canola flowering varies by season and variety or hybrid Scout frequently to ensure best protection of the most open flowers

20% BLOOM ~14 16 open flowers on the main stem. An optimal time to apply Proline What to scout for: ~14 16 open flowers on the main stem (include aborted flowers and developing pods) Minimal petal drop has occurred

30% BLOOM ~20 open flowers on the main stem An optimal time to apply Proline What to scout for: ~20 open flowers on the main stem (include aborted flowers and developing pods) Reached at approximately six to eight days after the start of flowering After 30% bloom, petal drop and pod set begin

50% BLOOM > 20 open flowers on the main stem What to scout for: >20 open flowers on the main stem (include aborted flowers and developing pods) Canola stem has elongated Spraying at this stage is not recommended, the optimal application point has passed Infection might have begun

Why Proline? Proline fungicide provides first-class activity against sclerotinia stem rot of canola. It is compatible with most insecticides, herbicides and fungicides commonly used on canola, with excellent crop rotation flexibility. Features The newest and most effective DMI (triazole) fungicide innovation from Bayer CropScience Excellent control of sclerotinia stem rot Compatible with most insecticides, herbicides and fungicides Improved yield protection Crop rotation flexibility Application recommendations Apply at percent bloom Use rates of fl oz/a Maximum of two applications per season Ground or aerial application approved Recommended for use with non-ionic surfactants Rainfast in 2 hours 48-hour restricted-entry interval 36-day pre-harvest interval

For detailed application information, talk to your retailer or InVigor canola representative.
