7 The Herb & Vegetable Garden Spring gets us all excited about getting back into the veggie patch. Here are some TIPS to ensure success with growing your own. Dig PLENTY of IGC Planting Compost into the areas to be planted. Some Cow Manure dug through the beds will be beneficial. Veggies MUST have at least 5-6 hours sun each day. Be as organically minded as possible with fertilisers and sprays. Water in the morning and try and keep foliage of tomatoes dry. Companion Planting is excellent. Grow Marigolds and Basil near Tomatoes they love one another and bugs will be minimal. Young seedlings can be protected from snails & slugs by placing cut down milk/soft drink cartons around each plant. Liquid fertilise regularly for best results.
