12 Design Review Committee Reviewed project on 1/11/18. Provided a recommendation of conceptual approval, subject to the following comments/recommendations. DRC Comments/Recommendation Applicant Response The DRC found that the white color, as proposed, was too modern and contemporary. Their recommendation was to provide a whitewash treatment to allow the brick texture to come through, thereby creating a historic feel. The DRC found the proposed window and door replacements acceptable; however, they recommended that the applicant use real steel on the window and doors to create authentic and historic look. The applicant is agreeable to this recommendation and their project plans have been modified to reflect this. Staff has drafted a condition of approval to implement this recommendation. According to the applicant and his design team, if the black steel plate was to be installed between the sidewalk and the new window, it would accentuate the slope and detract from the simple straight lines of the window. The DRC found that the tortilla room, as The applicant has made modifications to the tortilla originally proposed, needed refinement as room in response to the DRC s recommendations. it was lacking character and decorative The modifications include removal of a decorative substance. Their recommendation included faux hood and surrounding metal to be replaced tying the tortilla room into the building and with a Spanish tile roof supported by wooden providing a window that can open to create columns and beams.
