1 Mary Jenkins Builders Kitchen Center Englewood, CO GRAND PRIZE DESIGN Mary Jenkins Design Statement~ When the contractor came to me he had a very clear vision for the home and wanted the cabinetry to look as though they were in a 400 year old home on the hillside of Spain. With that as our inspiration and about 10 sample doors we arrived with the final product; a custom door style in knotty alder that was hewned, very heavily distressed with a custom glaze process. The final result was a perfect fit for the interior decor of the home which blended beautifully with the overall rustic elements in the home. This was one job where perseverance on everyone s part paid off. Thanks to all that stayed with me to the end on this one! Features a custom door style, custom finish on knotty alder. The hutch is natural knotty alder with a custom door style featuring reclaimed barn wood.

2 Paul Bradham Keystone Kitchen & Bath Cashiers, NC GRAND PRIZE DESIGN Paul Bradham Design Statement~ Total kitchen remodel (included new subflooring, walls and wiring, plus a breakfast nook addition.) The historic estate built in 1909, is name Cheeononda, which is Cherokee for rolling hills. The kitchen cabinetry has the St. Croix door style with an antique white paint in flat sheen on maple. Using an antique white gave the kitchen a timeless quality, without looking too new. The thicker, heavier doors added an element of quality and true craftsmanship similar to what is found in the rest of the house. The hinges are finial, butt style in a brushed nickel. Inside the new room, I added built-in china cabinets on either side of the cased opening. Cabinetry is quarter-sawn white oak finished in Heartland Brown with a Black highlight and flat sheen. I used the St. Croix door in beaded inset with diamond shaped leaded glass to match the windows. The door hinges are finial, butt style in a brushed nickel. The top drawers have wood dividers for silverware and all cabinets have matching wood knobs. I cased the opening with matching quarter-sawn white oak panels to give the illusion of an 18 thick wall, sometimes seen in houses this age.

3 Krikor Halajian, CKD Kitchens & More San Rafael, CA GRAND PRIZE DESIGN Krikor Halajian Design Statement~ The upper cabinetry above the sink was built as one piece with all the moldings applied so the highlight would get into all the crevices enhancing the finished look. The dishwasher which is to the right of the farmhouse sink and its adjacent cabinet look like they are one. The drawer faces were custom made with the moldings on the outside edge. also made a custom blade for the baseboard moldings so the mitered areas would look perfect. The finish was challenging. The highlights were lightly feathered in. The custom match of the stain to our sample was impeccable. Perimeter cabinets: Winthrop door style with Signature Bisque with Van Dyke Highlight. Cabinets are topped with honed Absolute Black Granite. Island, Hutch Base, and Built-in Window Seat Bench: Winthrop door style with Signature Rub-thru Black over Nutmeg. Cabinets are topped with polished Mascalone (golden) granite.

4 Mike Beck Beck/Allen Chesterfield, MO Mike Beck Design Statement~ Objectives Unique focal point/range hood Expand the island to create a large prep area and single-level seating for two Custom mullions in tops of wall cabinets to reflect owners individuality Increase refrigerator/freezer storage using two 36 units Design a space for coffee unit/coffee service Featuring Huntington door style finished in Signature Antique White with Van Dyke Brown Highlight on maple. Design Challenges Creating a large enough island to fulfill the clients desires while maintaining adequate walk spaces Large windows on angled walls limited available space for large refrigerators, wall oven, hood and coffee unit Design Solutions Worked with customer service to create one of a kind hood and custom mullion details Directed the length of the island toward the breakfast room to utilize wasted floor space Housed microwave and coffee unit in tall cabinet Placed microwave and double ovens on same wall to to create cooking center Placed refrigerator/freezer and cooktop near prep sink to maintain workable prep/cooktop area

5 Kayron Brewer, AKBD Creative Kitchen & Bath Lynnwood, VA Kayron Brewer Design Statement~ Our client called upon us to and build a new kitchen for their 1931 home. Their existing kitchen was partially the original kitchen from the 1930 s, with a partial remodel since that time. The client wanted a better functional kitchen with a breakfast nook, more storage, and also a beautifully detailed traditional look with modern appliances. The new breakfast nook would take shape of a built in cabinetry area with bench seating, side bookcases, an arched faux cabinet and pantry storage. A detail incorporated into this area is the acanthus style molding. We ended up outsourcing an acanthus molding to be finished and supplied by. For the overall look of the kitchen, the client was looking for light, bright and lots of traditional details. They were attracted to the inset door look, and the er also agreed that the inset style was very fitting for the age of the home. The client considered white or off-white paint for the cabinetry, but was ultimately attracted to the soft Sage green that offered. The chosen door style was the French Villa Square. All of the cabinetry was finished off with a 6 crown detail and inset false doors on ends, with dark bronze hardware to tie into the bronze doorknobs in the home. 6 Michael Borrelli, CKD, CID Terry Smith, CKD, CBD, CID Borrelli Design + Cabinetry San Diego, CA Michael Borrelli & Terry Smith Design Statement~ Our client recently bought a condo in La Jolla, overlooking the beautiful waves and seals by the cove. During our first meeting, our client requested a one of a kind and vibrant Country French, kosher kitchen. Where one would step into the home and feel like you ve traveled halfway around the world without ever leaving. Our client wanted the colors of her cabinets to be unique and bold. The cabinetry consists of plywood construction and was custom colored to an aqua-green, reminiscent of the colorful streets of Europe and the surrounding water. The cabinetry had distressing and wearing elements to add more character. Small upper cabinets planked by custom side panels and corbels helped create a beautiful arch, framing the views of the ocean whenever our client is at the sink area. Glass inserts on both sides of the uppers allow additional light to pass through while showcasing the various artistic pieces within them. Features the Huntington door style finished in a custom aqua paint Rub-thru over Umber stain on premium alder.

7 Ed Pacuk Creative Kitchens of Glenmont, LTD. Glenmont, NY Our uses cabinetry with the Country French beaded inset door style in an Umber finish on cherry. Large carved grape corbels along with carved grape crown and appliqué moulding, fluting, split turned legs, custom keys and stacked moulding running the entire length of the room provided and desired aesthetic quality. 48 high wall cabinets combined with a large pantry, big deep drawers and pull out spice cabinets flanking the cook top satisfied the desired storage needs. The break front cabinetry featured unique mullion glass peninsula doors, open display units and custom double side wainscot fly over panel with key helped to separate the kitchen from the family room while still maintaining a open specious flow. Featuring the Country French Square door style finished in Umber on cherry. Ed Pacuk Design Statement~ The primary objective for this project was to create a space for a multi-cook kitchen that was extremely functional, had ample, easily accessible storage, generous work surfaces and plenty of detailed, personalized embellishments. Our clients wish list consisted of a Sub-Zero wine, beverage and a 48 glass door refrigerator. Other appliance requirements were a 36 Wolf cook top, double oven, warming drawer and microwave drawer. Finally, a Miele dishwasher and built in coffee center were an absolute must. Other requests included a large two tiered island with seating for three, two separate sinks, an elaborate break front to separate the kitchen from the family room and a healthy but tasteful amount of personalized embellishments.

8 Brian Burmeister Beck/Allen Cabinetry St. Louis, MO Brian Burmeister Design Statement~ The objective was to create a shared bathroom with an upscale appeal for the clients two grown children. The long narrow wall allowed space for two vanities separated by a drawer stack providing for a fair amount of counter space. The elegant countertops are accented by the use of vessel bowls. To play off the height and length of the vanity area a custom mirror framed accented with bamboo reeded inlaid glass transoms was ed to give a mature spa feeling. The lighting was achieved by the use of dimmable tubular glass sconces mounted to the mirror frame. Featuring the Palo Alto door style finished in Signature Raisin with Black Highlight on cherry.

9 John B.A. Idstrom, II Partners 4, Design Minneapolis, MN John B.A. Idstrom, II Design Statement~ These lifelong clients came to us for yet another project; updating their condo in downtown Minneapolis to accommodate their upcoming post-career life. Featuring the Springfield door style with narrow carbonized bamboo finished in Nutmeg, and the Fusion door style with high gloss Wired Mercury and White foils. Objectives: Replace 70 s kitchen with contemporary style and functions. Maximize workspace efficiency, storage & function. Use low to no-maintenance materials that are eco-friendly. Design Solutions: Carefully combined three cabinetry finishes (white thermofoil, champagne thermofoil and bamboo) to create grounded yet light space. Thicker Corian countertops encase the base cabinets. Pull-out pantry provides maximum storage in a minimal space. Desk offers open yet functional respite. Mid-height cabinets at end of kitchen provide visual division and interesting details (inset stone tops and boat-like hardware).

10 Peggy Triggs, CKD Minnesota Cabinets Urbandale, IA Peggy Triggs Design Statement~ The main goal for this kitchen remodel was to remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room and to incorporate that space into the kitchen. We needed to create a space that was open for entertaining and had unobstructed views. The client was also looking to maximize storage and to increase counter space. The island was ed with strong angles and multi-levels to break up the size of the room. The center island was made in the rich Raisin stain color on cherry and perimeter cabinetry was kept light with the Williamsburg Yellow stain on premium alder. The home was traditional in style but the client wanted to have a more transitional space leaning a little bit more contemporary. We chose the Palo Alto door with the pillow edge to add softness to the angular lines of the. A mix of textures was incorporated to add interest in the room. The new space allows for the cook to interact with family and friends while preparing meals. This kitchen is the centerpiece of this home in more than just location. It has become a place where the family wants to spend their time. Featuring the Palo Alto door styles finished in Raisin on cherry and Williamsburg Yellow on premium alder.

11 JoLynn Johnson Kitchen Center, MN JoLynn Johnson Design Statement~ Key features and focal points of the kitchen: Keeping the tongue-and-groove pine paneling on the walls, having it sandblasted and stained to match the cabinetry, brings out the woods character. Balancing the room size with staggered the height of cabinetry reaching to 9 high with an additional 6 crown moulding. A larger island gained storage and also allows for 5 bar stools. A former closet became the desk. A buffet in the dining room was added and 13 wet bar became a room divider between the kitchen and living room. We added several arched shapes: large arched-top window above the sink, arch valance over the wet bar and the shape of the island. Wide pine wood floor with square nails. Texture in the 1x1 mosaic tile backsplash Balance of color is seen in the warm rustic cherry cabinets combined with accents of green stained cabinets, granite counter tops combined with cherry wood counter tops, pine wood floors, stone backs on the island and wet bar, 3-bronze metal doors and rust hardware. A vacation home built in 1992 on Cross Lake that was made for entertaining. The problems: Chipped floor tiles Dated appliances Inadequate counter space and storage Poor lighting Lacking of a wet bar, buffet and desk Stark and layout that didn t fit the size of the room Our goal was to create the log cabin feeling the homeowner wanted, not expanding the size of the kitchen, but utilizing the space better. In the re, we removed the half wall separating the kitchen and living room and added a third column to make it visually more appealing. We lowered the 16 vaulted ceiling by adding 3 beams allowing us to add recessed lighting. Repositioning some of the appliances and enlarge counter space made room for many cooks in the kitchen, and a place for guests to sit and have conversation with the homeowners while they prepare meals. Featuring the Gentry door style finished in Wheaton on rustic cherry, combined with a custom green stain on Birch.
