2 ART INSPIRED LIVING Nine Darling St is inspired by the art of minimalism. It is a building where less defines more. Minimalism sets out to expose the essence of a subject, the essential elements that form its identity. To achieve simplicity and ultimately essence, minimalism strips everything down to only the vital qualities. All parts and details are reduced to a stage where there is nothing left to remove because it can no longer be improved, becoming in effect, perfect. In architecture, minimalism aims to simplify living spaces to reveal only the most valued qualities of a building, conveying simplicity for the character and attitude of people s daily lives. Nine Darling St exemplifies this form of art. The clean yet elegant design is crafted with austerity, sitting confidently in leafy Darling St, South Yarra. Beauty is achieved by enlisting only the necessary, creating living spaces built out of carefully selected finishes and fittings. It is a unique residence that expresses quality with highly resolved detailing in the most established pocket of South Yarra. Minimalism allows for the escape from excess. A way of steering away the nonessential to focus on that which is truly important, what gives meaning, what gives true joy and pleasure

5 ARCHITECTURE LIVE BY EXAMPLE Beautiful design is sustainable, inherently elegant, functional, dramatic and enduring. Along with proportion and form, Nine Darling St celebrates details that contribute to a greater whole. IVAN TURCINOV Design Director, CH Architects Drawn from minimalist insights, Nine Darling St is a contemporary union of elegance and simplicity. This collective inspiration defines the unique nature of the development. Consisting of only six levels, the low-density design ascends from the street like a sculpture. It responds to the streetscape without imposition and achieves a residential figure, akin to the style of this highly desirable domain of South Yarra. Like a minimalist painting, the building expresses extreme simplicity with a complementary white & black facade. The finished patterns shape unique geometrics around each apartment creating a modelled form with deep setbacks that create privacy on upper levels. Internally the design is reflective of the exterior with the elegant design ethos inviting residents into their homes through the stunning foyer. All one, two & three bedroom apartments bear the same consistency of elegant design, offering uninterrupted living environments. This minimalist approach is the key to the art inspired design. It makes Nine Darling St a striking clean canvas, a home that awaits the beauty of individual expression

7 INTERIOR SPATIAL ETHOS The interior design language is an extension of the original minimalist source point of the architecture. This inspiration has generated clean geometric joinery forms and high quality contrasting finishes to create a coherent spatial experience that is unique to this project. Simplicity and attention to detail inspired the design philosophy of Nine Darling St with a colour palette that is true to the external materiality. This assemblage of ideas gives Nine Darling St its harmonious uniformity. The residences are visually connected and open, creating well-ventilated spaces that are filled with natural light. Design elements are reflective of minimalism with apartments designed to give flexibility to interact or retain privacy when needed. Joinery is simple and keeps the living spaces uninterrupted. The materials and finishes express the same rational aesthetic with distinctive Rogerseller bath and kitchenware fittings and premium Gaggenau kitchen appliances. Wide-board oak floors stretch throughout the space in two colour options, a natural lime wash or textured black stain, and connect with porcelain floor tiles in the bathrooms which feature premium stone splashbacks. The kitchen appliances are concealed within the cabinetry, removing clutter and excess to keep the natural stone benchtops a visible feature. This highly resolved detailing and premium quality befits the sophisticated style of Nine Darling St. It creates living spaces that are ideal for today s lifestyles. 13 CULTURE COSMOPOLITAN CHARM During the 1840s, South Yarra became a suburban retreat from the city for Melburnians. The area has since thrived and expanded, progressing without drawbacks to become one of the most liveable localities of Melbourne. The carefully preserved history of buildings and mansions casts a respectful and established quality. The history of class, educational facilities and old-world charm has brought sophisticated culture to the suburb, establishing a very privileged inner-city community. Today, South Yarra possesses a highly developed quality of life. It is these tastes, values, attitudes and behaviours that have come to define the blue chip quality it bears. The tree-lined, domestic setting around Nine Darling St epitomises South Yarra s sophisticated quality. From the humble yet charming Lawson Grove Canteen to the laid-back but polished Cafe Gaia, the lunch and coffee scene is enviable. Most establishments in the area boast a fine selection of individual and locally produced offerings, and their reputations are evident from the faces that are regularly present. The dining scene is held in esteem. France Soir has been busy daily for over 20 years. The classic, consistently superb French staples draw a wide clientele, from those eating early on their way to the theatre to jovial groups chattering loudly for hours over bottles of Bordeaux to families celebrating birthdays and anniversaries with champagne and oysters. These types of establishments are cultural markers. Their existence is vital to the identity of a place. They form the guild of a locality. 15 PARKLANDS OUTDOOR ESCAPES South Yarra is well regarded for its generous amount of open space. This green addendum balances its innercity proximity, and gives residents much natural space to enjoy. Fawkner Park s extensive green canvas is a natural activity space where locals come to walk, jog and exercise amongst its grand avenues of trees. Darling Gardens at the end of Darling Street is an intimate park that overlooks the winding Yarra River and is well known for its cockatoo population. The Botanic Gardens off Domain Rd are an iconic Melbourne attraction. These green parklands are imperative. With proximity to Nine Darling St, it is easy to venture into these green spaces for exercise, gettogethers or strolls along the many walking trails. People are committed and steadfast. The plethora of wellbeing centres is a sign of good community values. Movement, physical and spiritual exercise improve living and keep the body and mind fit and healthy. The area is naturally stimulating. Abundant parks, gardens, gyms and fitness centres encircle Nine Darling St. The area engages in activities and keeps a sense of balance. 18 TRANSPORT TO & FRO South Yarra is bounded by major arterial roads, trams and railway services. These essential modes of transport add convenience. It is easy to reach the CBD and suburbs beyond. These options provide comfort and choice. You can cycle along the Yarra River and be in the city in less than 20 minutes. Tram routes 8, 72, 78 and 79 also run through South Yarra and the 8 Line stops just a few steps from Nine Darling St. The South Yarra Railway Station is just moments away as well, making the trip a couple of stops away from the CBD, RMIT, Victoria University and Melbourne University. The many boutique fashion stores on both Toorak Rd and Chapel St are evidence of the aesthetic tastes of the area, as well as the many design stores that stock unique international and local designs and objects. Dinosaur Designs, the manufacturer of homeware and jewellery opened its third store in South Yarra in Since then, the company has been strongly identified with the locality, its presence becoming just one example of the area s interest in the artistic value of great design. 20 ENTERTAINMENT ALIVE & VIBRANT Entertainment comes in varied forms in South Yarra. The range of bars, cafes, galleries and shopping centres makes it a unique district for social activities. There is a conversational leisure to the area. Locals are social and outgoing. offering cosy environments for friendly and memorable celebrations. The Como Centre and the Jam Factory are unique to South Yarra. They are places where you relax and indulge in a myriad of retail and entertainment pursuits.
