8 UN WORKING GROUP February 2010: on Area-based Management Recognize the importance of establishing MPAs consistent with international law and based on scientific information, including representative networks by 2012; Call upon states to work through competent international organizations towards the development of a common methodology for the identification and selection of marine areas that may benefit from protection based on existing criteria, with a view to facilitating achievement of the 2012 MPA target
