3 Dorset Local Nature Partnership One of 48 partnerships across England The Natural Choice: securing the future of nature, White Paper 2011 Working together to maximise the benefits of the natural environment for wildlife, people and the economy Drive positive change in the local natural environment Taking a strategic view of the challenges and opportunities involved Identifying ways to manage it as a system for the benefit of nature, people and the economy Contribute to achieving the Government s national environmental objectives locally Become local champions influencing decision-making relating to the natural environment and its value to social and economic outcomes
4 Dorset Local Nature Partnership Dorset LNP had six strategic priorities: i. Natural capital investing in Dorset s natural assets ii. Natural value adding value to the local economy iii. Natural health developing Dorset s natural health service iv. Natural resilience improving environmental and community resilience v. Natural understanding improving understanding of, and engagement in, Dorset s environment vi. Natural influence integrating natural value in policy and decision-making, locally and beyond
5 What is Natural Choices? Natural Choices is a programme of activities supporting individuals with low risk physical/mental health condition to improved health and wellbeing Sessions are based in natural environments using local venues to help tackle identified health inequalities Social / green prescription service 12 weeks to encourage behavioural change Current signposting from LiveWell Dorset public health hub Get Fitter Lose Weight Reduce Drinking Stop Smoking
6 Where did Natural Choices come from and where are we going now? Began as a pilot in Weymouth and Portland in April 2015 Started with a conversation between RSBP and CCG Pilot hosted by Dorset Coast Forum Initial funding from CCG, DCC, and an Olympic Legacy Health Fund Now being rolled out by the Dorset Local Nature Partnership across Dorset Multi-agency Steering Group

Enjoy the surroundings of the Stour Valley Nature Reserve. Walks will be about 40 minutes with time for a cuppa and a chat back at the Barn afterwards. Activities including horticulture, conservation, woodworking, garden maintenance, landscaping, forestry and catering. A gentle stroll around Holton Lee, taking in some of the fantastic scenery and learning more about nature Tasks include habitat management, wildlife surveys The activities will be gentle and leisurely, with time for conversation and contemplation of the wildlife and environment of the Stour Valley Nature Reserve. The group gets involved in project based activities from green wood working, seasonal site care, seasonal walks and environmental crafts. Weekly. Sunday pm Weekly. Monday am Weekly. Weymouth Conservation Work Party A range of conservation tasks to suit all abilities. National Trust Dorchester General Gardening Gardening in General, weeding, pruning, lawn care. Dorset Wildlife Trust Weymouth Nature Walk A gentle walk through the Lorton Meadow Nature Reserve, focusing on the natural environment. Weekly. Wednesday 10am-3pm Fortnightly. Wednesday 10am-3pm Weekly. Wednesday 10am-4pm Weekly. Thursday 10am National Trust Nr Dorchester General Gardening Gardening in General, weeding, pruning, lawn care. Weekly. A weekly health walk exploring different short walks, focussing on getting to know the nature reserve. Activities including horticulture, conservation, woodworking, garden maintenance, landscaping, forestry and catering.
