The Georgia Southern Heritage Volume 3, Issue 6 June 2015 I N S I D E T H I S I S S U E 1 From The Captain From the Captain Men, Another Mechanized Cavalry Annual has come and gone. The Brothers in Oklahoma and Arkansas did a great job this year holding the Annual at Marble Falls Arkansas. It was surrounded by mountains providing for some great riding. Most that attended made to ride in a day or two, depending on the distance. Two Brothers from California made the 1800 mile ride in 6 days stopping along the way to see the sights. One of them was the winner of the longest distance traveled in one direction to support the Annual. The 750 mile day ride for me was enough to make me glad to see the HUB biker resort when I pulled in after 13 hours on the road. For the most part we had a safe weekend with no accidents other than Larry Wheeler clipping a deer on the way home. Larry was extremely lucky; he didn t go down and wasn t hurt. His bike was safe to ride home with damage to the front finder and right side fairings. 7 Communication Officer A few of use that attended the Annual 1

June has also brought the rise of attacks on or flag, monuments and vehicle tag. It s like some are trying to expunge our Confederate history and symbols from the history books. I have written our SCV Georgia Division Commander, Jack Bridwell and offered the support of the Georgia Mechanized Cavalry to rally on the Capital steps. He and the SCV legal team are working with the Governor s office to resolve these attacks. He said in a return that it may resort to a rally if he s not successful. It is very important that we don t snap and do something that could add to the discriminative remarks that have been coming out the media. We don t want to appear as racist or haters in any fashion. I will keep you posted on any changes or requests coming from SCV HQ. You should be getting a letter from the Commander and Chief Kelly Barrow. He states in his letter we are facing the greatest threat to our heritage in modern times. His letter is focused on events going on in South Carolina but apply to Georgia also. We need to make noise in contacting our State representatives requesting the leave our tag, flag and monuments alone. Commander Barrow is also requesting that we register our address with the SCVHeritageDefense.org so they can get information out to you quickly. We had a very productive Quarterly meeting on June 28 th in Villa Rica. All 4 Troop Lts were present with outstanding reports on what their Troops have been doing since the last Quarterly. We had the largest turnout I have seen in a while, I was glad to see everyone there. No new members were sworn in but I did receive one application. All voiced their disgust with the current attacks on our heritage. As I mention at the meeting, we do many things throughout the year to honor our ancestors. But most are not seen by the public, we do many Memorial Day events at cemeteries, memorial/charity rides but most go unseen by the public. We treat our monuments like graves; we dedicate them and ride by once in a while to visit. The general public doesn t see or understand the importance they have to use. They are markers and monuments of our fallen dead; they memorialize an event and people associated with that event. We need to have remembrance ceremonies throughout the year at our monuments to memorialize and remember the event or person. It can be done on the date of the event or birthday of the person memorialized. We should advertise it and invite the public to attend. We need to let everyone know our monuments and the memories of our ancestors are cherished by the descendants of those who fought and should be cherished by all. If we don t cherish and honor our Confederate monuments then who well and it will appear they serve no purpose. We discussed the Georgia Annual which was given an official name and voted on by those in attendance. Taz came up with the name Reconfederation which is proper for what is going on in Georgia today; we need to come back together in restoring the importance of our Southern Heritage, symbols and traditions. The Georgia Reconfederation event will be held at Hidden Hollow, between Trento and Lafayette. The details and registration form is on the Mechanized Cavalry web site. The date is August and this year it is a Georgia Mechanized Cavalry event. It is a time for a reconfederation, a coming together in where we are going and a time to get acquainted with each other. Next year we will open it to all Mechanized Cavalry Brothers. A copy of the registration is attached. 3
We also voted on the purchase of recruitment tools that each member should carry with them all time if possible to take advantage the opportunity when we meet prospective members. We are purchasing recruitment coins and CD s to hand out to prospective members. The CD explains what the SCV is about and the coin is just given to open conversation. We are already walking billboards for the SCV but we need to have an application and these recruitment tools with us in our car or on our bikes. We shouldn t pass up a chance to talk to someone about the SCV and Mechanized Cavalry. Something free like the coin and CD opens the door for conversation to begin. Since the meeting Bo has placed and order for 1000 coins that we will be shipping out to your Troop Lts soon. Group picture from the Quarterly in Villa Rica 4
Capt Bo received a Certificate of Merit from Col Stone for the outstanding job he is doing on the Mechanized Cavalry web site. I think we all agree the Mechanized Cavalry has the best web site and it provides the most information. 5
Also in June was the Georgia Division SCV Reunion at Nash Farms. For those that was there and I m sure most have heard, this was not an example of what we are about. It was trying to set there and listen to our leaders debate, verbally fighting over there position. I think after all was done and a proper vote taken, things turned out for the best in who was elected. With all the attacks on our Heritage we need strong SCV leadership and a willingness to take on these attacks. Men from across the State that attended the SCV Reuion 6
Communications Officer Compatriots, June has been an active month. From annuals and reunions to the Tyrannical upset towards our Sacred symbols, monuments, and the Honor of our Ancestors. From the Fun to the Fight, all of us have been busy. If there is ever a time for communication, that time is NOW! It is imperative that we communicate with each other, our chain of command, and our communities. We must refute the nonsense, rumors, and lies regarding our heritage. It is our Honor and Duty we owe to our ancestors, to preserve and forward the Cause. As we coordinate our plans of action, communicate regularly within your troop. Report all heritage violations immediately, ie., vandalism to monuments, theft, flag destruction, etc. Even the smallest insignificance is of the most importance. All troop command should report these instances to Captain Trigger as soon as possible. If your troop or SCV Camp is planning a demonstration of any kind, please pass on all details for camp matters so everyone can be involved. All Mechanized Cavalry Plans must be cleared with Captain Trigger. We are SCV first And Mechanized Cavalry second. As Col. Stone put it we are the Special Forces of the SCV. Remain Honorable and vigilant in any action you take part. Some areas require special permits and policing. We must do everything legally, respectfully, and with proper planning and consideration. Timing and participation is everything, if we are to take charge. Above all communication is still key. I will do my best to keep everyone abreast of the most current information. At this point you should try to check your s, messages, and our websites at least once a day for any updates. I will try to combine messages when possible, to help reduce the overflow. Recruiting is at a high. Communicate with your friends, neighbors and co- workers. Recruit them. This includes Friends of the SCV. We are strength in numbers. Find those you know that are no longer active or have not paid their dues and help them get involved or reinstated. Above all, remain Honorable. We are the SONS of CONFEDERATE VETERANS MECHANIZED CAVALRY. Make our Ancestors proud. P.s. I usually end with have a great Dixie day, and as I sit here contemplating the current situations, it does not seem that great. However, seeing our Brotherhood come together to stand and fight It is An Awesome DIXIE Day I am proud to call all of you My Brothers! Capt. Bo 7
