3 Smart cities mission Smart cities mission: centrally sponsored scheme of Govt. of India o Envisages support to 100 cities o Rs crore over 5 years; matching grant by state/ulb o Potential access to other external sources of funding Two stages to release funding o Stage I: Short listing of cities by states (completed) o Stage II: Challenge round for selection Cities to submit a smart city proposal 20 winning cities to be eligible for funding at the end of year 1 challenge Implementation by a city-level SPV Source: MOUD smart city guidelines

4 Smart city an overview 100 smart cities shortlisted will prepare proposals for all India competition with capacity assistance Based on evaluation criteria, the evaluation will be done by national and international organizations winners for round 1 will be declared Winners set up SPV and start implementation. 7 Smart city proposal Retrofitting: Development of existing built up area greater than 500 acres ex: Ahmedabad downtown OR Redevelopment: Replacement of existing built up area more than 50 acres and enable co-creation of a new layout, especially enhanced infrastructure, mixed land use and increased density ex: Bhendi Bazar - Mumbai OR Greenfield development of more than 250 acres of vacant land within corporation limits or within the local planning area limits Ex: Mahindra world city, Chennai and GIFT city Gujarat COMPULSORY Pan city initiative : Applying smart solution to the existing city wide infrastructure Source: MOUD smart city guidelines
