Soon it will be very quiet again at HIE. We would like to welcome our new Administrative Assistant, Amy Richards and our new maintenance person, Matthew Green. Hopefully you have had a chance to meet both of them. With the significantly lower cost for LED bulbs over just a few years ago, we will start slowly replacing all our building light bulbs with equivalent LED's. In one case, the LEDs are now less expensive than the current CFL's we are using. We replaced the pool landscape lights over a year ago, and so far none have gone out, saving maintenance time and money, plus they use less energy. Believe it or not each building has 64 outside light bulbs, and most months we replace 30 to 40 bulbs across the property, requiring a lot of maintenance time. We have 12 buildings, so 80 X 12 is 960 light bulbs we have to maintain across HIE buildings. LED's will lower maintenance time and costs. As the CFL light bulbs go out, they will be replaced with LED's. We recently replaced all the recessed lights in the clubhouse! We ve had a lot of problems keeping the pool functioning properly. A new pump was purchased, and we will be refurbishing the old pump to have on hand in case of future problems. You may have noticed a Citizens patrol car in our community. Citizens Observation Patrol (C.O.P.) is a volunteer group sponsored by the St. Lucie County Sheriff s Office. It uses a simple approach to safeguarding our neighborhood through citizen involvement. C.O.P. volunteers are local residents who help the Sheriff s Office fight crime by patrolling the community looking for suspicious activity, potential hazards, and by offering assistance to others in the neighborhood. C.O.P. volunteers wear uniforms and drive specially marked

2 vehicles, adding to the crime fighting presence in the community. This vigilant, community-oriented group of volunteers not only provides visibility in Harbour Isle East, but also additional eyes and ears for the Sheriff s Office, making the program a highly effective deterrent of crime. Thank you to Walter Lynch, our Board Secretary, for volunteering and arranging for C.O.P. to patrol Harbour Isle East. For additional information please visit We cleaned up the roundabout, removing the large trees that blocked the traffic view, added new soil and colorful plants which we will expand to the entire front area this fall. We want to see how well they do in this area before going ahead with more plants. After two years of work the landscaping in the building fronts is complete with over 3,000 new plants, new grass, colorful Florida-friendly plants, and a mulch that will not wash away and will last longer. We had the trees trimmed to add more light and give the first floor units a better view. We also added lava rock to stop erosion and dirt splash on the first floor area.

A Mountain of Mulch to complete our final phase of the HIE landscape refresh. Thanks to all our "Landscape Volunteers"! We appreciate all your hard work! We finally cleaned up the area on the west side of Building 10. We removed the dead plants, regraded the area to stop the erosion, added new grass, trimmed the trees to improve the view and repaired the sprinklers. Recipe: BLT DIP 1 lb. bacon, cooked & crumbled 1 tsp. onion powder 1 cup mayonnaise 1 tsp. seasoned salt 1 cup sour cream 2 plum tomatoes, seeded & finely chopped Mix all ingredients until well blended. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve with pita chips or crackers.

4 Y-Not Social Our Director, Dianne Simcic, once again did a marvelous job with this year s Murder Mystery. The cast also performed well and the audience really enjoyed the evening.

8 Did you know? The physical act of passing through a doorway is the reason why you often walk into a room and completely forget what you were doing. Because going through a door signifies the beginning or end of something, this creates an event boundary within your mind. Basically, every time you walk through a doorway, your brain starts filing away thoughts from your previous location to make room for a new group of memories in the next. DIDYOUKNOWFACTS.COM This is not how our recycle bins should look! If you cannot close the lid tightly after you place your recycle trash in the bin, remove it and put it in the large dumpster. When the lids aren t closed properly, the trash blows out of the bins and ends up all over the complex. Please DO NOT overload our recycle bins. Help us keep our community clean. All boxes need to be broken down before placing them in the bins. If they don t fit in the bins, put them in the large dumpster. Don t leave anything on the trash room floor.
