3 Key Messages Dr. Prem C Jain, Chairman, IGBC & Chairman Emeritus, AECOM India Pvt. Ltd. For centuries, Indian way of life has been to build and live in harmony with Nature. The classic examples are ancient temples and forts; these have survived centuries of floods & earthquakes. Our ancestors had mastered the art of laying stone and creating edifices of incredible splendor and majesty. When industrial revolution came to India, it brought with it the mantra of Comfort At Any Cost and we took it on with great zeal. Plastics of all varieties came to our land and destroyed our water reserves. Fossil fuels have been used with scant regard to quality of air we breathe. Thus, in less than sixty years, India has become one of most water-deficient nation and my birth-place Delhi has become the world s most polluted city. But all is not lost! CII launched Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) in Our headquarter, GBC Hyderabad, became India s first certified green building, and World s Greenest Building in It is designed using principles of ancient wisdom, and incorporating the state-of-the-art technologies. And we have never looked back. IGBC Chandigarh Chapter has led the Green Building Movement in India from the front. Its outstanding contribution lies in starting IGBC student chapters in Punjab & Haryana; getting Punjab Development Authority to give additional 5% FAR incentive for IGBC certified buildings; and inclusion of green parameter in local building bye-laws. Leaders & Members of IGBC have driven the green building movement in India, with great dedication and commitment. This has brought India on the World MAP of Green Buildings and Green Infrastructure. Starting with a meagre 20,000 Sq. ft. certified green building (GBC Hyderabad) in 2003, IGBC today has a registered green building footprint of 360 Crore Sq. ft. (3.6 Billion Sq. ft.), making India the world s second largest contributor towards sustainability. Our mission is that India will celebrate 75 years of independence as world s number one country, in preserving life on our beautiful Mother Earth, with 1000 Crore Sq. ft. (10 Billion Sq. ft.) registered green footprint. Then we will hold our heads high in fulfilling our responsibility of greener earth for our children and for generations not yet born. Er V Suresh Chairman, IGBC Policy and Advocacy Committee & Former CMD, HUDCO We are all very glad to learn about the impressive array of activities and events being organized by IGBC Chandigarh chapter in sensitizing public opinion and disseminating information among many stake holders on the green building movement and expanding the green footprint net work. We need massive efforts in this direction for creating Awareness, Appreciation and Application modes among the various corporates, builders, developers, agencies and departments to embrace green building philosophies in planning, design, construction and operation and maintenance stages to bring in efficiencies in water use, energy use and waste management and spread the green cover leading to reduction of carbon foot print. All these efforts will lead to sustainable development of the built environment with optimum and efficient use of all our natural resources. This will also pave the way for the recognition among governments and users for incentivizing the green building initiatives. I wish the efforts all success in exchanging and sharing the efforts for maximum IEC outreach. 3

Due to rapidly urbanization the construction sector is growing very fast and poses many challenges to preserve the environment. In this direction Indian Green Building council is playing very important role since 2001 and has opened 20 IGBC Chapters across the country and over 100 student Chapters in various Architect and Engineering colleges till today. The mission of IGBC is to make aware and importance of green building and to built sustainable environment for all through conferences, exhibitions and training programs. IGBC has achieved great heights under the leadership of Dr. Prem C Jain and deep involvement of all the council members and other partners. Today India has registered 3.61 billion Sq.ft of green building footprints and is the second country in the world with largest green building footprints. The green Buildings which plays a catalytic role in addressing the environmental issues and concerns. IGBC aspire to cross 10 billion sq.ft of green building footprint in the next 10 years with the sincere support and efforts of all members and stakeholders including Government & Private sector Ar. Jit Kumar Gupta Co-Chairman, IGBC Chandigarh Chapter We feel honored and happy to bring out and place before you the second issue of the newsletter of Chandigarh Chapter of Indian Green Building Council. The newsletter showcases the humble and dedicated effort made by the Chapter to promote the cause of local and global sustainability through creating awareness about the role, need and importance of planning, designing and construction of green built environment. We understand that task is both enormous, complex and stupendous. It requires total involvement of community and all the stakeholders including government, parastatal agencies, policy makers, developers, builders, architects, engineers, industry, service providers etc. to achieve the goal of making all built environment green. We are trying to make them all partners make in this endeavor to the best of our limited capability and capacity. India, as a nation, is already on the path of rapid economic development and committed to achieve high economic growth rate. With urban population projected to be 590 million in 2030, McKenzie Global Institute has already projected the need for creating million square meters of built space annually to meet the needs for shelter, working, industry, leisure, travel etc. for the population that will make urban areas as their preferred place of living. In addition, we are also searching for options which would help in making our rural habitat more livable and least consumers of energy. To create smart, livable, more productive, effective and efficient human settlements, Government of India has already launched number of pan India initiatives including Smart City Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, AMRUT, Affordable Housing etc. All this will lead to creation of large footprints of buildings. With IGBC, under the dynamic chairmanship of Sh P.C. Jain, fixing goal of creating 10 billion square feet of green built space by 2022 ( to make India global leader in Green Rated Buildings on the eave of India completing 75 years of independence), places great onus and duty on all of us in IGBC to make all possible efforts to achieve the defined objectives through a well defined vision and mission approach. Collectively we all can do it and we all shall do it. 4

The objective of this session was to discuss the critical issues and available opportunities to minimize unsustainable development by committing to Green Buildings and to serve as a knowledge sharing platform to understand the current and emerging issues and trends in green technologies that would inspire the stakeholders to work towards creating a sustainable world. 6 Interactive & awareness Session on Green Building with MES North Zone Senior Officers Friday, May 27, 2016 Chandigarh IGBC Chandigarh Chapter Interactive & awareness Session was held on Green Building with senior officers of Military Engineer Services (MES) on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Chandigarh. The objective of this session was to provide an insight into various aspects relating to Green Buildings and its importance in resource conservation and promoting sustainability. Earth Day Celebration Interactive session on Environmental Sustainability & Inter-school poster making competition Thursday, April 21, 2016 Chandigarh Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Chandigarh Chapter along with Young Indians (Yi) Chandigarh Tricity Chapter celebrated Earth day by organizing an interactive session on Environmental Sustainability in Government College of Commerce & Business Administration(GCCBA), Chandigarh on Thursday, 21 March 2016 and an inter-school poster making competition for students from Class VIII to Class X The session focused on the need to develop green buildings and an environmentally sustainable society which can fulfil basic needs of the residents without any harm to the ecology. Ar. Jit Kumar Gupta, Co-Chairman, IGBC Chandigarh Chapter and Mr Amit Chugh, Chair-Yi, Chandigarh Tricity Chapter, & Founder and Director, Midas Touch Advisors Pvt Ltd were the key speaker for the session. 7 Interactive Session on Green Building to architects of IIA Jammu & Kashmir Centre Friday, April 8, 2016 Jammu IGBC Chandigarh Chapter Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Chandigarh Chapter organized an interactive Session on Green Building to architects of IIA Jammu & Kashmir Centre on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Jammu. 8 Student Chapter Launch Considering the role and importance of academic institutions in general and professional institutions in particular in promoting local and global sustainability, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), Chandigarh Chapter launched IGBC student chapter followed by awareness session on Green Building concepts. The objective of launching the student chapter is to spread awareness on Green Buildings amongst the student community and ignite the idea of green in young minds, thereby facilitating India to become one of the global leaders in embracing green building concepts. Workshop on Bamboo Applications and Technologies 8 12 February 2016, HAS, Sonepat IGBC s Student Chapter Hindu School of Architecture organized a five day workshop on Bamboo Application and Technologies in collaboration with IGBC Chandigarh Chapter. 9 Greening of Interiors: the IGBC way The Rapid Pace of the growing Construction industry has raised concerns about sustainable design and improving the quality of our living environment, with more designers adopting a sustainable practice in their project. IGBC Green Interiors is rating primarily addresses people comfort and well being. We spend about 90% of our time indoors, breathing the same air without knowing enough about the quality of indoor environment that is present throughout the day. On an average, an adult at rest inhales & exhales approximately 7 to 8 liters (about one-fourth of a cubic foot) of air per minute. This amounts to more than 10,000 liters (almost 400 cubic feet) of air for the day. Therefore, the indoor air quality (IAQ) and consequential physiological comfort are of paramount importance for the occupants. Realizing this imperative, world over, designers are exploring opportunities to construct & design interiors considering these key elements. Malaxmi Courtyard, IGBC Platinum Green Buildings Today, building sector in India is growing at a rapid pace and contributing immensely to the growth of the National economy. The sector is expected to grow four-fold in the next three decades, creating three more new India's. It is inspiring to witness how the sector has embraced sustainable design & construction practices in the past fifteen years. This has facilitated India to stand tall on the global green buildings map. Today, India with over 3.6 Billion Sq.ft of registered green footprint, has the second largest contribution to the world s registered green buildings. Green Building Movement in India started with corporate offices; institutional and commercial buildings. However, in little more than a decade, the green building movement has spread to all types of buildings and communities. This indeed is a step in the right direction and augurs well for our country. Tangible Benefits Use of bamboo panels for cladding the suspended volume at Puma Store, IGBC Platinum Incorporating green concepts and techniques in the building sector has helped to address National priorities like- water efficiency, energy efficiency, reduction in fossil fuel use, handling of consumer waste and conserving natural resources. But most important is the vast improvement of indoor environmental quality (IEQ), leading to better health, well-being and productivity of occupants of green buildings. 9

10 Adopting & promoting sustainable interior designs has resulted in multifold benefits, which include the following: 30 to 40% reduction in energy costs 20 to 30% reduction in fresh water requirement Use of materials that are non-toxic. Better acoustics & ergonomics Enhanced Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Use of finishes & coating which have low volatile organic compounds (VOC s) Improved health & wellbeing of occupants IGBC Green Interiors Rating Against this background, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of CII, constituted a core committee of experts, led by Ar. B R Ajit, Chairman of IGBC Cochin Chapter. The Committee, after series of discussions & deliberations, has developed rating to establish standards in designing Green Interiors. This Rating has been developed considering the Indian context and the National priorities. Various sustainable aspects of green interior design are addressed in the IGBC Green Interiors Rating System. Modules covered in the Rating include- Eco Design Approach, Water Conservation, Energy Efficiency, Green Interior Materials, Indoor Environment and Innovation in Interior Design. The guidelines detailed under each mandatory requirement & credit enable the design and construction of green interiors of all sizes and types. Different levels of green building certification are awarded based on the total credits earned for the project. The scope of IGBC Green Interiors is ideally suited, but not limited to office interior fit-outs, malls, retail spaces, hotels, restaurants, resorts, IT spaces, banks, hospitals, airports and other commercial buildings. The rating is applicable for both new and existing interior fit-outs. A room should never allow the eye to settle in one place. It should smile at you and create fantasy. It is inspiring to witness how the sector has embraced sustainable design and construction practices in the past fifteen year ICICI Bank Madhapur, Platinum Green Interiors Success Story ICICI Bank- Madhapur Branch in Hyderabad gained the unique distinction of becoming India s First IGBC Green Interiors rated project in India. Today, 10 projects are registered under IGBC Green Interiors Rating System. Many other projects are in the pipeline. Some of the green features included in ICICI Bank- Madhapur Branch in Hyderabad, include the following: Fresh air as per International Standards CO2 monitoring for occupants wellbeing Indoor plants to enhance IAQ Ergonomic design of furniture Usage of recycled paper Energy efficient LED lights No smoking policy Ample outdoor views Use of low VOC content finishes - paints & coatings. Conclusion IGBC foresees that the next 10 years will be the decade of integrated sustainable built environment. This will mostly be in the form of large integrated townships, satellite cities, gated communities and campuses with multiple buildings. 12 Palbachan Singh Sandhu Partner, Helios Consultant Member, Indian Green Building Council Roof top Solar Photovoltaic Grid Tied System Solar Roof top Photovoltaic Modules Grid tied system is an array of solar panel modules mounted on the roof top with an arrangement of an invertor/power conditioning units for converting the direct current electricity into the alternate current for the usage at par with the grid electricity with the same power factor along with PV wiring with the protective surge devices and also connected to the grid through a bi-directional energy meter which records the production and hence provides the net metering/gross metering reading according to the requirement of the DISCOM. Original Solar power plants having the conventional battery for storage has gone outdated with the onset of the new system as the power grid is acting as a storage bank for the solar energy produced by the system. Solar energy is in abundance and produced with the thermonuclear reactions in the sun and 47% of the total solar energy reaches the earth which can be harnessed through the use of the Solar PV systems. Biggest challenge of the industry is to manufacture the cells with higher efficiency with the optimization of the minimum space usage for the same. Vision in India: There is an increasing focus on the development of solar energy in India for a variety of reasons, including our limited conventional energy reserves, their local environmental and social impacts, energy security issues, energy access, and tackling the challenge of climate change. Solar photovoltaic (PV) technology, in particular, is emerging as an extremely attractive option, particularly with abundantly available solar resources, modular technology and zero fuel costs over years of the project life. Considering this, the Government of India has recently expressed its intent to achieve 100 GW of solar capacity in the country by 2020, of which 40 GW is expected to be achieved through decentralized and rooftop-scale solar projects. Challenges: The SPV system implemented globally faced many challenges during their initial phases of their implementation; the same should be studied by the MNRE and the respective State wise boards i.e. PEDA, HAREDA, HIMUDA & others etc. so that the technology in practice should be the latest along with the bottlenecks faced therein should be incorporated by us in our system. Basically the technology involves the participation of the electricity boards along with the Renewable Energy Boards, the major role in the system is of the electricity board/ DISCOM. Even though the ease of the application as being provided online which in which case becomes an hurdle for the applicant as well as to the electricity department where the computer illiteracy and connectivity of the world wide web is still a distant dream. The lack of understanding about the technology in case of the employee of the electricity boards is becoming a herculean barrier for the progress of the technology and its implementation even though there is a lucrative incentive of subsidy by the MNRE, GOI as 30% on the domestic as well as the trust based institutions. Further the schemes in the technology are not implemented universally in the states as given by the MNRE i.e. Net metering is the only available option in Punjab even though the UT/Other states do provide an option of Gross as well as Net metering to attract more and more consumers. Further the SPV need to be put up as a statutory compliance on the construction of new buildings which itself will prove as a major step for the protection of environment. 12

Member, Indian Green Building Council Energy Conservation Code For Town Planning - Need Of Hour Orientation has always been considered as the most critical element of design which can be effectively leveraged to promote high degree of energy efficiency in the built environment by making optimum use of light and energy provided by the nature and the sun. Orientation, primarily and essentially, is the positioning of a building in a given site considering the pattern of sun path and the main cardinal directions of north, south, east and west besides prevailing wind direction. Buildings will have to be oriented differently in different climatic zones, considering the need of ambient conditions required to make living comfortable without the use of active mechanical systems. Good orientation can go a long way in making homes, industry, commercial buildings etc. highly energy efficient, making it more comfortable to live in and cheaper to operate. Good orientation, combined with other passive energy efficiency features, can reduce or even eliminate the need for auxiliary heating and cooling, resulting in lower energy bills, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and reduced carbon footprints besides improved comfort and healthy indoor air quality. In North India and places away from coast where the climate is composite in nature, temperature rule very high in summer and very low in winter with low humidity, except during rainy season. Buildings require high degree of care while positioning them in site and actually designing them architecturally. Here the prime focus of orienting and designing the buildings will be how to manage sun. While in summer, when day temperature rule high (above 40o C), the strategy shall be how to keep sun out and how to minimize heat gain by the building envelop. Accordingly, building have to be oriented in such a way that outer walls of buildings should face the direction which will have minimum heat intake into the building during the hottest days and maximum heat gain during winters during the year. Designing walls and openings would be critical for achieving energy efficiency in buildings. For promoting energy efficiency in the built environment, in addition to the role of Architects, involving Town planners will also be essential. For designing energy efficient buildings, Architects require building sites which have optimum orientation and that can be made possible only when layout plans are prepared by Town Planners considering the orientation of the land of a colony/township etc. Accordingly, Town Planners are also required to be made integral part of the process of promoting energy efficiency in buildings. Now in order explain how town planning impact the Energy consumption of building, I would like to take the example of a Township with an area of Approx. 300 acres, which have more than 1500 Plots carved out. The layout of township is approved by the Town Planning department and the development is done by the developers based on the conditions prescribed by the local development Authority. 13

14 Main typology of plots provided in the township are small in area arranged in the shape of row type plotted development. In majority of cases these plots have orientation with front kept east or west. The plots are zoned in a manner that buildings are constructed as row housing. In the row housing, two walls are common and only two walls(front and rear) are exposed, from where sun energy can be sourced/harvested for use in the buildings. In order to have sufficient light, both front and rear walls have major part covered with the Glass, windows and Doors. Since in majority of cases these walls are facing east and west, managing sun in buildings remains challenging and difficult, because of low positioning of the sun in these cardinal directions. Sun in these directions invariably enters in the building during summer bringing too much heat within the building, making it highly energy inefficient. Green net cloth covering East and West walls for protection from Solar heat. We all know that horizontal shading measures are not effective in the east and west. Hence due to this Orientation, the horizontal projections do not restrict the heat to get trapped into the houses. Vertical fins and louvers are almost absent due to limitation of vision and the restriction of sun light within the building. This pattern of layout plan results in building designs which have high energy implications and accordingly higher energy bills, higher use of the Air Conditioners. Even dwelling holder are preferring use of Green net type cloth to cover complete elevation ( as shown in picture ) to get rid from Solar impact. In this township this is general practices adopted to mitigate the adverse impact of solar radiations in such cases. In view of the above, it becomes critical that layout plans of townships must be prepared in a manner so that in majority of cases the orientation of the buildings should be planned facing North and south or on some most suitable angle. This will go a long way in helping design buildings which are highly energy efficient and least consumers of energy. While we welcome the Energy conservation Building code I believe that we can save much energy and make buildings energy efficient, if Government puts in place a comprehensive set of rules and regulation in Code for the town planning to promote energy efficient townships.. Town planners and Town planning department must play a proactive role in ensuring that all layout plans are prepared keeping in view the best orientation available in the area. Energy conservation code for planning of township appears to be the need of hour to save the environment, promote energy efficiency and sustainability in the built environment.
