We just wrapped up another incredible Beautification Awards. All of our winners deserve a huge round of applause.

We had a great time and some unexpected twists like going into the wrong backyard at 9:30 PM to judge lighting and one of our contractors finding a homeless man picking lemons at 10PM at another

Isnt' it ironic that while everyone s children are off on summer break, we are in the middle of our busiest work season. Here at the CLCA it has been a busy month. We just wrapped up another incredible Beautification Awards. All of our winners deserve a huge round of applause. Also, a huge thank you to our sponsors as the evening would not have been what it was without you. Thank you again to our judges Jim and Megan Rios. We had a great time and some unexpected twists like going into the wrong backyard at 9:30 PM to judge lighting and one of our contractors finding a homeless man picking lemons at 10PM at another house. It certainly kept the night interesting. Also, thank you to our Beautification Awards committee, Gina Hall, Taylor Boyle, and Jaime Lien Hendrickson for their hard work in making the evening the best. Now we are putting our work to the test. We are putting together a garden tour to feature the winning projects from the beautification awards. Each of the winners will be called to discuss the logistics. We want this to be the best kick off to the garden tour, which we hope to have annually. We had winners from Cambria to Los Alamos this year. Also, we are going to be sending out press releases to local media this week and boosting the winners on social media. So, winners make sure your Facebook and Instagram information is up to date. We are rolling this out with the Sweepstakes winner right away. Coming up we have a bunch of new and old events. First off is our CLCA Happy Hour on Thursday, July 12 from 4-6 p.m. at Figueroa Mountain Brewery in Arroyo Grande. Members and non-members are invited to this great social event thats sole purpose is to allow everyone to get to know other members and learn more about membership from the board and other members. I will be there. Secondly, we are having our first annual fishing trip with the Kern Chapter on Saturday, August 11. This will be a ¾ day trip. All members are welcome, but space is limited. Come socialize with other members and catch a limit of fish. Finally, we have our annual golf tournament coming up on Friday, October 5 at Cypress Ridge Golf Course. Ewing founded the PlantFast app in May of 2017 and is in mid-development stage. Entries are now being accepted for the California Landscape Contractors Association s 2018 Trophy Awards, a statewide celebration of excellence in landscaping. An interactive fill-in-the-blank PDF entry form is available at clca.org/trophyawards/application.pdf The association presents the Trophy Awards to encourage interest in landscaping, recognize crafts people who produce outstanding landscapes, create pride in superior workmanship and to bestow public recognition on companies, institutions, municipalities and residents for their interest in a beautiful California. Any chapter Beautification Award winner is encouraged to enter that project into the state Trophy Awards program. The deadline to enter at the discounted early bird rate is August 1, 2018 (postmarked). The awards will be judged in September by two highly regarded landscape contractors, who will travel state-wide to personally inspect each and every one of the Trophy Award entrants. The judges rate projects on their artistic and technical merits. Awards will be presented Friday, November 9, 2018 during the CLCA Annual Convention in San Diego, CA.
