2 Council File No: ; CHC HCM, Beneficial Plaza and Liberty Park To: Fri, Feb 23, 2018 at 12:55 PM I am a resident of zip code for the past 5 years. I urge you to please support of Beneficial Plaza and Liberty Park s pending Historic-Cultural Monument (HCM) status. Liberty Park, designed by noted landscape architect Peter Walker (who also designed the National 9/11 Memorial in NY), is an irreplaceable cultural landscape that, if lost, can never be replicated on Wilshire Boulevard again. I Remind you that the Planning Commission, back in 1968, voted to protect Liberty Park (through downzoning) as a recognized open space asset for all Angelenos. That zoning is still in effect and should not be reversed. HCM designation will affirm the Planning Commission s action in The property has been identified as National Register-eligible and any development proposals for this site will require an EIR and the consideration of preservation alternatives. HCM designation will not prevent development proposals or the EIR process from taking place. The nomination has widespread support beyond Koreatown, including The Cultural Landscape Foundation in Washington, D.C., the Los Angeles Conservancy, and the Jewish Historical Society of Southern California. IT IS A PARK:Liberty Park. Regards,
3 3700 Wilshire Blvd Historic Cultural Monument Helen Park Feb 23, :00 PM Dear Sir/Madam, I would like to request to you to keep the 3700 Wilshire Blvd., which is historical-cultural monument in our city of Los Angeles. There have been a lot of events to celebrate and support of great sports events like FIFA world cup. It is only greet spot for mid-wilshire to give residents in busy street and buildings. As a mother of two, I would like to keep 3700 Wilshire Blvd. as historic-cultural monument and give it to generations. Please support to keep as historic-cultural monument. All the best, Helen Park resident of 3810 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 1003 Los Angeles, CA 90010
4 Council File No: ; CHC HCM, Beneficial Plaza and Liberty Park Feb 23, :02 PM As the name coveys, Liberty Park is a rare Park on Wilshire Blvd. I have not heard of a major city in the world that even consider building on a park. It is more like the opposite and all about creating park elesewhere. Please consider this park historic and don't allow building on it. Regards Program Advisor Ph (888) Fax (213)
5 Vote to Save Wilshire's Liberty Park Mark Palmer Fri, Feb 23, 2018 at 3:39 PM To: Cc: Dear PLUM committee members, and esteemed council people, My name is Mark Palmer, and I've had the privilege to call L.A. my home for my entire life. Since my Great Grandparents left downtown and moved to a house on Irolo just south of Wilshire, my family's experience and memories have revolved around this stretch of Wilshire. My Grandmother lived in the Gaylord. And I came to the area myself in the early 80's, when I lived on Berendo as a young writer. During those days, Liberty Park and Wilshire itself became a refuge, a crossroads for the infinite number of cultures that swirl and bubble through Los Angeles. Liberty Park was and is a a welcome and important respite from the civilization around it. But the park is also an architechtural artifact of a more idealistic time, when city planners believed that we could truly "have it all." That was what this stretch of Wilshire was and still tries to be. A monument to the optimism and idealism of LA. It sounds cheesy, but I really believe it. This is a special stretch of road. The amalgam of architecture, the endless variety of restaurants and the spires of churches and temples. And Liberty Park. There are plenty of buildings that could be improved. Plenty of empty spaces that need filling. Plenty of opportunities to find homes for the homeless and create commercial and residential urban infill. The only thing we lack are open spaces like this one. It is a time capsule, an historical remnant of a time when we believed we could live in the middle of the city, and have a green space to enjoy. I urge you to protect the park...and help us get back to a moment in our city when these urban areas are as beautiful as they are pragmatic. thanks Mark Palmer MarkatBigHand@Gmail.com 1332 Edgecliffe Dr. Los Angeles CA 90026
