2 PROJECT PROFILE What is MIAMI IRONSIDE?A prototype for a European village concept in which industrial warehouse is converted into a mixed commercial. Ironside is a business develepment where expansion and growth will take place in order to facilitate an enriched working community that encompasses bio-dynamic construction, live, work, and play. 3 Where is it located? It is located at the heart of Upper Eastside Miami, near the Miami Design District, and Little Haiti. LANDSCAPE CONSIDERATIONS The rainbow eucalyptus trees and segments of the Berlin Wall should be exploited to better add a sense of consistency and direction to the site plan.

4 CIRCULATION SITE The diagrammatic analysis of Miami Ironside, revealed that there needs to be: 1 an articulate approach to the site 2 an informative route of circulation 3 the parking is confusing and distant from the tenants Configuration of the Path Linear Circulation Path-Space Relationship Relationship to Features of the Building

5 PROJECT STATEMENT What is the problem? 1. Their needs to be a distinguishable entrance/ approach. 2. An articulate and enjoyable direct route of circulation. 3. Long walk between where you can park and most of the office spaces. 4. No place to sit, interact, or relax. 5. Recreate the promenade, so it s cleaner, nice, and adds slight views of the train track. Although it is a very trendy, and well known place among people in the design industry, Ironside lacks a clear approach and circulation process.

6 GOALS + STRATEGIES What are the design strategies? What are the Goals? To create an approach to Ironside Miami that is distinguishable from the rest of the site and to establish a direct route of circulation with places to interact and sit. 1 To call attention to the entrance with increased lighting, enhanced vegetation of native floridian trees, rainbow eucalyptus trees, and orchids. 2 Designate nodes by adding a 19ft column with the pattern of the rsinbow eucalyptus trees. 3 The pattern of the rainbow eucalyptus tree will inform the design pattern of circulation path. 4 Specified parking closer to the different store locations for preferred clients and tenants. 5 Allow access to the project through gate thresholds... keep gates open during business hours. 6 Space for seating/benches around the project, sourounding key nodes and places of increased program. 7 Use black metal L strips into a gradation and fill the negative space with glass and other natural elements with the intertwinning of grass vines, while also allowing glimpses of the train track. The metal peices will be closer together at the begining of the promenade and open up more as you get closer to the piazza. CONCEPT STATEMENT Miami Ironside requires a distinguishable entrance and a wayfinding path. This will be approached by using environmental cues, such as enhanced vegetation to call attention to the approah and rainbow eucalyptus trees to designate nodes.

9 WHAT IS A MARKET? A retail market is where fresh produce, flowers, hand made crafts and jewlery are sold. Famers Markets give local vendors and start up companies a place to interact with consumers and directlty sell their products. They range from just a few stands to a span of multiple blocks, which can operate the entire week or a few days a week. The growth of farmers markets has rapidly increased from under 2,000 in 1994 to over 8,600 registered in the USDA Farmers Market Directory. Specific rules and regulations have been placed to ensure that food products are only produced on a farm. The health department follows ISDH Rule Title 410 IAC 7-24, the Retail Food Establishment Sanitation Requirements. Licenses and Registrations: 1. In the state of Florida vendors selling at a farmers market need a DBPR (The Department of Business and Professional Regulation license. 2. A DBA (Doing Business As) with a Business Name Registration. 3. A Federal Tax ID(EIN) 4. Local health departments issue permits for farmers markets in order to control which vendors have met the requirements of the food code. R E Q U I R E M E N T S

10 WHAT IS A FOOD TRUCK? GOALS/ STRATEGIES A food truck is a licenced mobile unit used for selling food to the public. They vary in size and mobility, but it s typical size is 7-9ft*16ft. Most food trucks have fully functional kitchens, but some are just sets of heating units siiting in the back of a truck. Food trucks, booths, and carts are like pop-up restaurants which serve about 2.5 billion people everyday. What are the GOALS & STRATEGIES? To create a destination that integrates the community with Ironsides, and enhances circulation for the surrounding buisnesses by attracting people to the live music, fresh foods, and relaxing night life. WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS? The required registration for a food truck is the same as a farmers market, which includes a Buisness licence, a DBA, and a Federal Tax ID. Other Florida requirements are to have a hand sink, dishwashing capacity, refrigeration, a generator or form or getting electricity, and a plumbing system.
