5 General Information for Participants Registration The registration desk will be situated on the Ground floor at Guam Hyatt Regency during the following time: 14:00-16:00 Tuesday, August 7, :30-16:00 Wednesday, August 8, :30-16:00 Thursday, August 9, 2018 A Polite Request to All Participants Participants are requested to arrive in a timely fashion for all addresses. Presenters are reminded that the time slots should be divided fairly and equally by the number of presentations, and that they should not overrun. The session chair is asked to assume this timekeeping role and to summarize key issues in each topic. Certificate Certificate of Presentation or Certificate of Attendance A certificate of attendance includes participant s name and affiliation, certifying the participation in the conference. A certificate of presentation indicates a presenter s name, affiliation and the paper title that is presented in the scheduled session. Certificate Distribution Oral presenters will receive a certificate of presentation from the session chair after their presentations or at the end of the session. Poster presenters will receive a certificate of presentation from the conference staff at the end of their poster session. The certificate of presentation will not be issued, either at or after the conference, to authors whose papers are registered but not presented. Instead, the certificate of attendance will be provided after the conference. 2

6 Preparation for Oral Presentations All presentation rooms are equipped with a screen, an LCD projector, and a laptop computer installed with Microsoft PowerPoint. You will be able to insert your USB flash drive into the computer and double check your file in PowerPoint. We recommend you to bring two copies of the file in case that one fails. You may also connect your own laptop to the provided projector; however please ensure you have the requisite connector. 19 Natural Sciences Keynote Speech San Vitores 10:45-12:00, Wednesday, August 8, 2018 Topic: Disaster Mitigation and Sustainable Engineering Based on Smart Structures/Materials and Related Technologies Dr. Hiroshi Asanuma Professor, Graduate School of Engineering Chiba University Abstract The author has been developing the field of smart materials and structures for many years mainly for aerospace applications. But right after the 3.11 earthquake and tsunami disasters in Japan, he started to look for innovative approaches to cope with disasters based on it, which enables sustainability as well as disaster mitigation to enhance resilience of society, and led to the concept Disaster Mitigation and Sustainable Engineering. In this study, novel challenges for prevention/mitigation of disasters especially based on smart structures/materials and related technologies are described. In order to realize the concept, a smart breakwater was proposed as an example, which is daily available for energy harvesting, small enough to be a stealth structure, as well as autonomously deployable by the force, energy and/or material of tsunami or high wave. Two basic experimental researches, that is, artificial tsunami control forest and smart river bank/breakwater based on deployable honeycomb structure were examined. The artificial forest could successfully demonstrate the possibility to have better capability of tsunami or high wave mitigation by changing various parameters such as configuration, material, and so on. Multifunctional design was also mentioned. The deployable wave/flood mitigation structure could successfully demonstrate autonomous and smart deployment in proportion to the height of water, and it was also found that the structure can realize more than 100 times height deployment compared with its original height. The following researches are also undergoing by the author and/or his collaborators. (i) Applications of piezoelectric polymers in electrical power generation using ocean waves (Su, 16

20 NASA). (ii) Dynamic deployment of smart inflatable tsunami airbags (Shahinpoor, Univ. of Maine). (iii) A novel underwater inflatable structures for smart costal disaster mitigation (Adachi, Chubu Univ.). (iv) SHM of pipelines for environment pollution mitigation (Felli et al., Sapienza Univ. of Rome). (v) The contribution of LARES to global climate change studies with geodetic satellites (Sindoni et al., Sapienza Univ. of Rome). (vi) Smart disaster mitigation in Italy (Felli et al., Sapienza Univ. of Rome). (vii) Smart disaster mitigation in Thailand (Aimmanee et al., KMUTT). In addition, Kubo, Tanaka, Maruyama and Asanuma (Chiba Univ.) started to develop a multi-layered deployable structural material system to dissipate wave energy by separating water flow and letting them collide. Various challenges have been also found in industries. Especially, neo RiSe flap-gate type seawall (Hitachi Zosen) is successfully commercialized, and Breakwater and breakwater group (Takenaka Corporation) and SHELCAR (STARLITE Co., Ltd.) are attractive. In conclusion, the newly proposed concept has been demonstrated successfully in this study and will be supported by enhancement of the novel examples in industries, and the challenges introduced in this study have to be brushed up to overcome or rather utilize disasters in the near future.
